Inviting Fire (A Sydney Rye Mystery, #6) by Emily Kimelman Book Summary

Hatred and desire haunted my dreams.

I woke up tangled in my sheets, Blue standing next to the bed, his eyes glowing green in the darkroom. He whined at me gently. "I'm okay," I told him. He pushed his nose against the mosquito net and whined again. "You don't think so?" I asked with a small laugh.

He circled around to the net's opening. I sat up and reached through, petting his head to reassure him. Blue was a giant of a dog with one brown eye and one blue. When I adopted him he was tall, the height of a Great Dane, but thin. Still a puppy really. The pound in Bushwick, Brooklyn thought he was about a year old at the time.

Over four years later, Blue looked very different. His coat, which had been ratty when I brought him home to my apartment in Park Slope, now shone in the soft light of my bedroom. He had the markings of a wolf. Black and white and beige all sharing space on his large form. His snout was long and made me think there was some collie in his ancestry. Blue's chest was broad and strong. The pink scars that marked the entrance and exit wounds from a bullet he took for me were hidden beneath his long coat.

My scars from that battle were more obvious. One ran under my left eye. White and pink, it arched across the top of my cheekbone, puckering the skin. Above that eye another scar, fainter than the first, ran across my forehead, slicing through my eyebrow and disappearing into my hair.

I wore my bangs long, covering the top scar. They almost reached to my gray eyes, but I made sure they never got in the way. My hair was dyed black and cut short, barely reaching my chin. The heat here was too much to bother with long locks.

I looked out the glass doors of my balcony and into the jungle. The sky was still dark, the foliage a pitch black mass. I heard the guttural roar of the howler monkeys and knew the sun would be here soon. Blue's nails clicked against the tile floor as he walked to the door.

Blue stared at me, then looked at the door, then to me again. "I get it," I said. "You want to go for a run." He lowered his front end, waving his tail around in the air and let out a low warble. Some things would never change.

Throwing off the sheet, I climbed through the opening of my mosquito net. The tiles were cool against my bare feet. I dressed quickly, Blue following me around the room, encouraging me by tapping his nose against my hip.

Sneakers tied, headlamp in place and phone in hand, I opened my bedroom door. The villa was dark. My house-mate was still in bed. The sky outside the glass was just turning a milky gray. As I closed the door behind me, another group of monkeys began their morning call.

As Blue and I started down the path toward the trails, I heard another group of monkeys start up in response to the ones in my yard. And then another, like a round robin of roars. The path we walked on was lit by low lights, yellow and solar powered. The air was moist and fresh—it carried a chill that wouldn't last long once the sun rose.

I passed other villas on my route. This was once an eco-resort. Now it was a training center for Joyful Justice, the stupidest named vigilante organization to ever blow stuff up. But no one asked me when they were naming it, even though I inspired the whole thing. They had it wrong—I am a monster, not a hero.

I don't care about justice; I crave revenge.

P.S. The dog does not die.

Inviting Fire. A fast moving fun read for adult readers! I'm officially hooked on this series. If you like Sue Grafton, you will like this series too!!

Superb. Definitely a great book for young adults to adults. Some moments are steamy, but that's life! Not a children's book! Great on going storyline, I love it. The good over the bad and even in between.

Things are changing. This is a very interesting story and the direction is changing a bit. Enjoyed this book and want more.

Inviting Firef. Not my favorite Sydney Rye book but still very enjoyable. I look forward to see what happens next with Sydney in charge.

Disappointing. Story felt very rushed. Not fleshed out - more like an outline than finished product.

Inviting Fire. Loved the book, can't wait for the next book. One thing, please don't ever discontinue Blue!

All six in less than a week. I chose the first book because it had the dog on the cover. A dog walker solving a mystery? Hmmm, could be interesting. I never expected what happened and continued to happen through each book and the ongoing storyline. Ms. Kimelman isn't afraid to shock her readers and this makes for some of the best readingI have done this year. I sure hope I read the last page right so I can wait with bated breath for the next book.Awesome Reading that is fresh and exciting. Highly recommended!

Inviting Fire. Wow! Emily had done it again! This was a great read. Let me start by saying there is language, some violence and some sex so please be forearmed instead of leaving a bad review bases on those things. The plot was original and well written and so were the characters. There were twist and turns that kept me reading late into the night. There were a few edge of your seat moments where I couldn't put this book down. This book continues the adventures of Sydney and Blue and starts where The Devil's Breath left us with Sydney still recovering but determined to recover and fight do the right thing. The characters were old friend and advisories and I couldn't wait to see what they would do next. This book shows a little of Sydney's vulnerable side and the struggles she goes through with relationships and trying to fight the good fight. She questions herself and her leadership abilities. I felt like I connected with Sydney a bit more in this book which I enjoyed immensely. We all doubt ourselves at one time or another. This could be a great stand alone but I do recommend that you read this series in order. You come to know Sydney and others and see why they make the decisions they make and what drives them to do the things they do. I would highly recommend this book to others with the warning to be prepared to be as hooked as I am on this series. Thank you to Emily for providing me a copy for review. This did not effects review one way or the other. I was joked on the Sydney Rye series after the very first book.

Inviting Fire - a Sydney Rye Adventure. Inviting Fire is another Great Read by Emily Kimmelmen! Sydney takes on more "Good Fights" but has to except that losses can happen. Joyfull Justice is not backing down and looks like they may have some help in the future, from a Very Unexpected Source. This book does not disappoint in any way! Still an exciting page turning, can't put it down and can hardly wait for the next chapter in Sydney's story. Big Kudos Emily! I know we won't be disappointed and you won't either so read it!

I am in love with Sydney. Oh the troubles she encounters! I want to hover over her and protect her! She has Blue but I'm the ever watchful Raven above. Just an observer ,I watch and wait! This book keeps my imagination Alive! Starting with Unleashed Ms. Kimelman's Imaginary characters become Family to me! Thank you, EJK

Oh lawd. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MULBERRY AND SYDNEY I NEED TO KNOW I BARELY READ THE SAMPLE

Delicious!!. Right straight thru to the last scrumptious bite. A wise reader would prolong the journey, savoring every juicy morsel. But the urge to get caught up & carried along is far too irresistible; another fabulous Sydney Rye adventure - gobbled up & greedily gulped down - to the ending that suggestively hints at the next.

I can't wait. I can't wait for this book to come out....ugh!!! Best books take time I guess

Big fan!. I am such a fan of this series. I downloaded the first book for free. I was hooked and had to get the rest right away. This series has everything- action, characters, romance. I can't wait for more. Go team Blue!

Good read!. Love this series. It is crammed full of action and features a strong lead character surrounded by many other interesting people. As a dog lover, I'm always happy to find a book where the dog is a big part of the story. While this book series is definitely for those over 18, there isn't a lot of gratuitous sex thrown in as page filler, and the swearing is minimal compared to some books that pepper every page with F-bombs. The author definitely researches her locales, and the descriptions give readers a wonderful visual to go with all the action.

Inviting Fire. This series is addictive leaving you wanting more. Love it!

Inviting fire. I love this series. This book was a complete turn of events. I hope Sydney continues to get her mind back as it appeared to be at the end of the book. Such a sinister last few words. I wish you could write longer books. And write them more often. Can't wait for the next Sydney story.

Great reading. Hated the fact that the books are so good that I don't want them to end. Great amount of love, conflict, excitement and triumph. Plz continue...thx
