Every Fifteen Minutes by Lisa Scottoline Book Summary

New York Times best selling author Lisa Scottoline's visceral thriller, Every Fifteen Minutes, brings you into the grip of a true sociopath and shows you how, in the quest to survive such ruthlessness, every minute counts.

Dr. Eric Parrish is the Chief of the Psychiatric Unit at Havemeyer General Hospital outside of Philadelphia. Recently separated from his wife Alice, he is doing his best as a single Dad to his seven-year-old daughter Hannah. His work seems to be going better than his home life, however. His unit at the hospital has just been named number two in the country, and Eric has a devoted staff of doctors and nurses who are as caring as Eric is. But when he takes on a new patient, Eric's entire world begins to crumble. Seventeen-year-old Max has a terminally ill grandmother and is having trouble handling it. That, plus his OCD and violent thoughts about a girl he likes makes Max a high risk patient.

Max can't turn off the mental rituals he needs to perform every fifteen minutes that keep him calm. With the pressure mounting, Max just might reach the breaking point. When the girl is found murdered, Max is nowhere to be found. Worried about Max, Eric goes looking for him and puts himself in danger of being seen as a "person of interest" himself. Next, one of his own staff turns on him in a trumped up charge of sexual harassment. Is this chaos all random? Or is someone systematically trying to destroy Eric's life?

Every Fifteen Minutes. Not my favorite Scottoline book. The premise was very interesting but the delivery was too long and involved. I was ready for the conclusion much sooner than it came, and then the conclusion was rushed, convoluted and unbelievable. Hope the author's previous form will return or I will be reluctant to purchase.

An insult to the reader's intelligence: horrible! *SPOILERS*. What a waste of my time and money. The writing is at a fifth grade level. To say that the plot strains credulity is an understatement. SPOILER ALERT This book wants you to believe that one hospital has on its staff not one, but two, sociopaths who both have it in for the protagonist, Eric, a respected psychiatrist. Somehow they find out about their mutual hatred for Eric and one, a female ER doctor, is able to manipulate the other (how, we're never told) in a Svengali manner to murder an innocent little girl, just to frame Eric for murder and to convince a female med student to claim that Eric sexually assaulted her, again to ruin him. And why? Because the ER doc is holding a grudge that she was spurned by Eric when he married someone else, OVER 7 YEARS earlier?! What in the name of all that is holy can explain this inexplicably delayed reaction. And, to make things even more unbelievable, the entire plan requires the serendipitous appearance of a teenager, Max, with OCD who is convinced by his grandmother (was she a co conspirator?) to see Eric as a therapist. And, on top of that, the whole scheme requires knowledge that Max has a crush on a girl who happens to like to walk her dog at a certain park at a certain time. This is information that only Max knows, and he keeps it a secret, until he slowly reveals it to Eric, in confidence, after several weeks of therapy, and then, only in bits and pieces. Further, none of the plan would have succeeded if Eric hadn't decided to follow the girl home in a hunch to locate the missing Max. Confused yet? How would either sociopath have even an inkling that such a complex, convoluted course of events might occur? And how would either of them know about the existence and location of the girl? None of this is answered, because there are no answers. Oh, and these sociopaths apparently were able to hide their mental illnesses from everyone, including friends and family for their entire lives. Then, snap, just like that, they both go off the deep end at the same time! Why? Who knows? That's just a problematic detail that Lisa Scottolini conveniently overlooks. This is slipshod writing and storytelling at its very, very worst!

Great read. Imagine you’re in a Ferrari 458 Italia cruising along in 6th gear for the first third of your journey when suddenly you flip the paddle into 3rd gear and bury the accelerator. You’re pinned against the seat for the remainder of the journey. That’s this book.

Too long. Way too long. Could have cut the book in half and come to same outcomes

Every Fifteen Minutes by Lisa Scottoline. All I can say is "WOW!" This book was fantastic and kept me guessing up till the very end! I loved the location where the story takes place (lived in the Valley Forge area from 1965-1977) so am very familiar with places mentioned in the story. I recommend to anyone who LOVES this genre as it kept me on the edge my seat! Great Job Lisa & look forward to reading more of your books.

Good reading. I really enjoy Lisa Scottoline's novels, however after reading some of the negative reviews I almost skipped reading this one. I am glad I didn't. It was a good read, suspenseful and intriguing. I found I couldn't put it down, and I enjoys the twists in the story. Maybe not Ms. Scottoline's best, but definitely worth reading.

Ok. A little all over the place.

Awful. I got within 60 pages of the end of this book and just could not finish. That's how bad it is.

Great story!. Yea

Not a good read. The main character was difficult to tolerate. No one is really that foolish about life. Only read the book because I paid for it. Skipped large portions to just get through it. Not a recommended read!

Disappointing. Flat.. I was expecting something entirely different. The commercial on television led me to believe this would delve more into a sociopaths mind. It didn't.

Mediocre. Tiresome to get through. Big deal surprise at end was just plopped in.

Every fifteen minutes. Wow great book I couldn't put it down! I'm so glad I purchased it on my iPad. When I was looking for another book to read I believe under the featured books or perhaps one of those other categories, the description caught my attention so I downloaded the sample and after reading that decided it was so good I needed to buy the rest of the book. Now I am going to look for another book by Lisa Scottoline and see what I can find, which I bet will be another awesome book by a awesome writer! Thanks!

Rate this a 10 star!!. This book was incredibly well written. Kept me turning pages almost faster than I could read the words. I really like this author. Do yourself a favor and read this book.

Love. Absolutely loved this book! Couldn't put it down once I started reading it! Great ending! Definitely recommend!

Cheesy. Super cheesy and cliche. It was all I could do to finish it.

Every Fifteen Minutes. Great story! Couldn't put it down.

Every 15 minutes. Horrible in so many ways. Why did I waste neuron time on this one...

Very hard to put down!. This book keeps you on your toes.

2 stars. The first half oh this book is a boring soap opera. The 2nd half isn't too bad. Naive hero solves the case. Not worth buying. Not up to author's usual.

Disappointing!. I really look forward to Lisa's books- this time around I was not happy- it was hard to get into, slow plot development and the story didn't take off until halfway thru. I usually cannot put her books down- this one has taken me weeks to finish. I think she needs to stick to strong female leads ;)

Every Fifteen Minutes. I cannot believe this book was actually published. It could have been better written by a fifth grader. Flat characters, clunky dialogue, pitiful and predictable plot add up to the worst book I’ve ever bought on iBooks. Please, give a little warning if a book of this quality can make it to the New York Times Bestseller list. I will never trust the list again!

Great book. Absolutely loved this book. This author never seems to amaze me with her stories. I was intrigued the entire book. I could not put it down. Getting ready to read Look Again.

Could be a great story but.... The story has the potential to be really great. What held me back from reading the entire book was the surplus of run on sentences, unnecessary commentary, and grammatical errors. I really tried to get through it but it became too annoying

Every fifteen minutes. One of the best thrillers I have read in quite a while. Surprises up to the last minute. Great read. Will read more of author's books. A+.
