Everything, Everything Book Summary

The instant #1 New York Times bestseller--soon to be a major motion picture! In theaters May 19, it stars Amandla Stenberg as Maddy and Nick Robinson as Olly.

Risk everything . . . for love.

What if you couldn’t touch anything in the outside world? Never breathe in the fresh air, feel the sun warm your face . . . or kiss the boy next door? In Everything, Everything, Maddy is a girl who’s literally allergic to the outside world, and Olly is the boy who moves in next door . . . and becomes the greatest risk she’s ever taken.

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He's tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Everything, Everything will make you laugh, cry, and feel everything in between. It's an innovative,  inspiring, and heartbreakingly romantic debut novel that unfolds via vignettes, diary entries, illustrations, and more.

After the trailer for the movie piqued my interest, I bought the book. It was SO worth it, and an amazing story. Although it was predictable, it doesn't effect the depth of the characters and their relationships. I loved the way it was uniquely written, and I can't wait for the movie to come out! Highly recommended!

  • Overall Disappointing

The connection between the two protagonists was rather disappointing, and the character development was extremely weak. The plot was predictable, and there was no didactic meaning from the story whatsoever. The only reason I continued to read this book because of the previous reviews in which some people said this was one of the best YA books they've ever read- I would say otherwise. After I read the book i returned it.
  • I loved everything, everything about this book!

What a joy it was to read this book! At first I thought it would be too depressing when I read about the story, but it wasn't. I got sucked in to the lives of these characters as if they were my neighbors or friends. I finished it quickly because I could not put it down! I wish I had read it slower and savored it more. I guess I'll just have to go back and read it again. I also loved the artwork scattered throughout the book and the handwritten notes that looked so authentic. I read that it's going to be a movie and I hope they stay true to the book. I can't wait to see it! I really loved this book and I haven't felt that way in a long time. I now have the difficult task of trying to find another book that will be as satisfying as this one, or at least close to it. Wish me luck.
  • Everything, Everything just made me happy

I'm so glad to find a book that gave me a little happiness. As a high school junior, I don't get much time to read for pleasure so when I do, I usually pick a book I know will be good either because I love the author or because I've read it before. I took a risk with this one as I knew nothing of this book or it's author but I can safely say I made an excellent decision. The story, characters and overall writing style are equal parts immersive and distancing, and all characters have there flaws, overall the book is one of the best I have read in a long time. It's very easy to get lost in the story of Everything, Everything. The world we live in today is crazy and just getting to sit down and read a spectacular novel like this is an incredible feeling.
