After You by Jojo Moyes Book Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Giver of Stars and the forthcoming Someone Else's Shoes, discover the love story that captured over 20 million hearts in Me Before You, After You, and Still Me.

“You’re going to feel uncomfortable in your new world for a bit. But I hope you feel a bit exhilarated too. Live boldly. Push yourself. Don’t settle. Just live well. Just live. Love, Will.”

How do you move on after losing the person you loved? How do you build a life worth living?

Louisa Clark is no longer just an ordinary girl living an ordinary life. After the transformative six months spent with Will Traynor, she is struggling without him. When an extraordinary accident forces Lou to return home to her family, she can’t help but feel she’s right back where she started.

Her body heals, but Lou herself knows that she needs to be kick-started back to life. Which is how she ends up in a church basement with the members of the Moving On support group, who share insights, laughter, frustrations, and terrible cookies. They will also lead her to the strong, capable Sam Fielding—the paramedic, whose business is life and death, and the one man who might be able to understand her. Then a figure from Will’s past appears and hijacks all her plans, propelling her into a very different future. . . .

For Lou Clark, life after Will Traynor means learning to fall in love again, with all the risks that brings. But here Jojo Moyes gives us two families, as real as our own, whose joys and sorrows will touch you deeply, and where both changes and surprises await.

Better. I loved this book, even more than the first. Keep Louise going....please.

Me After You. Great book. Did not want it to end. What a great story of love loss and love again!!

Loved this book. Loved this book! I read it in one sitting and made all my friends read it! The perfect book if you want to fall in love with the characters!

Fabulous !. I just finished reading Me before you and After you. I was not able to put the books down. Amazing writing talent. How each book flowed. I laughed, cried and found myself thinking about the book when I wasn't able to continue the read.

Me before you and After you. Both of these books are awesome! Jojo draws you into the story! You experience every emotion! I want a third book to After you! To see how Louisa does in New York at her new job. And how her and Sam do. I want them to get married!! Love both! So neat there's a movie on Me before You!

After you. Excellent read, I hope this is not the end, I want more of these characters and their lives.

Just don't even. The first book was terrible I'm not even sure why i picked up the second audio book at the library. 100% satisfied I didn't waste money on either of them.

Good!. Doesn't compare to the first book. This one seemed to drag on a bit, the last 5 chapters were page turners... But overall a good read!

After You. What a superb read! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I could not put it down. I read it in a day and a half. So inspiring and motivating. Thank you, JoJo.

After you. A nice story. Not as great as the first one, as always. But over all ok. Will patiently wait for the third one.

Disappointed. I really wanted to love this book but there is no comparison to the first book. Nothing. Really. Happened.

Loved it!!!. What a great book!!!

Okay decent beginning but.... At first, it was great. However the story line is a little bit hard to believe. My main issue was with Lou, Sam, Lily, Donna, and the bad guy. Me Before You was such a wonderful touching story. Nothing cheesy. However, the other two books after it, are more like horrible cheesy lifetime movies. I was really into Me Before You. The other two, I could have lived without. I would have much rather had another Me Before You but from Will’s perspective. I’d love to know his thoughts and feelings about his condition as well as his feelings for Lou.

Surprising Sequel. You never k ow is sequels will be able to live up to the story that come before them. I ended up falling in love with the characters form this story more than the characters in me before you. A great sequel that I could read over and over again.

Couldn't put it down. This sequel did not disappoint. Beautiful story about grief and love and letting go and moving on.

So much potential.... But things definitely fell flat for me. The beginning was ok and some other bits and pieces. I could be fine with Lou reverting to her old life at first but thought she'd eventually move forward and live as a Will wanted her to. I felt she was just a shell of herself and ready to crack most of the book. I had hopes of seeing Mary again from the wedding, Nathan, her adventures at school...Just going to wait and see if there is a third book and hope this was just a sophomore slump.

After You. I was a HUGE fan of Me Before You. I was super excited that there was going to be a follow up book. But reading it, it lacked what the first book had. It was nice to see what happens after, but completely different than the first book.

Tedious and boring .... This was one of the most tedious and boring books that I have ever read. This author should have stopped writing after her last book. I felt tortured reading it. Poor plot!

After You. Not as good/memorable for me as Me Before You was but still a good read if you enjoyed the first one.

I love jojo. I love this authors books. She keeps the characters real, like you're reading about your best friends. She makes you fall in love with each character and each story within the first couple of chapters.

After You. Another excellent read that I couldn’t put down! Now can’t wait to devour the next in the series “Still Me”. I am loving them all!!!

After You. I was a little concerned about what the second book would be like, because I loved Me Before You so much, but it was absolutely phenomenal! JoJo Moyes has a way to make you laugh, cry, and want to re read the novel!

Sequel. I just read this book in one day after finishing her first book. Having recently gone through a loss, her writing was thought provoking. I really enjoyed the journey.

After You. After reading "Me before You" I was disappointed in Lou in this book. I know she was grieving but some of her choices were hasty. I found the book a good read but nothing compared to the previous one. I do like the author's approach to the "English of our beloved UK". The author had me laughing out loud at her humorous characters, which was basically almost all characters except Camilla. But it turned out she could be human as we see her gentler side.

beautiful Sequel. Page turner from start to finish.

Just ok. This felt like the never-ending story. This book went on and on and at times was a bit slow and boring. After You was definitely not as good as the first book.

The Nightengale. Liked this book. A great read.

WOOOOOOO. I absolutely love this book and could not stop picturing a movie. I hope there will be another movie❤️

Sorry but no. I knew from the beginning that it would be different from the first book. I was expecting finally to read about a happy Lou. But huge disappointment. When the story turns interesting finally, it ends with no direction. I read it completely but it took me a lot of effort. I was rushing the pages after the first three episodes. Boring.

Don't read. The first book was amazing. This has so many twists and turns, it makes it very messy and tries to surprise readers at every turn. Definitely not what I expected.

❣️❣️❣️. A great sequel!

A great read. Loved this sequel. Very great

In love.... I loved this book from the very beginning seeing the way that Louis got over the death of her love. I think that this is a great follow up to the first book. Amazing at adding various characters and telling from their side. Great, Great book!

Huge disappointment. Not compelling in the least. In my opinion, this book was a let down after the brilliance of the previous book. I was so excited to read this one after I had finished Me Before You yet, I found myself rolling my eyes within the first chapter. Unfortunately, this book lacks originality and luster. It reads like a hastily written fan fiction and takes all the cheap turns that you would expect. Very disappointing.

Very Good.. So I had just finished 'me before you' and had debated long and hard if I had wanted to read the second one. I didn't want to read the second one because the first one was so well written and I didn't think there needed to be a second one. So after I debated, I decided was going to read it. It was a spectacular book and honestly I think I like it better than the first book. It has very good twists and turns and is overall an amazing book. So if you are someone that is debating on reading this book like I was, read it. It is definitely worth your time.

Great follow up. I loved this follow up to me before you.

Different from Me Before You. Loved this book!

Depressing. Where the first book was entertaining and inspiring and uplifting and deserves to be a movie this one does not. How unfortunate as I read this immediately after finishing Before You. The character is so self absorbed I wish she had taken the same shot that Will got in Switzerland and spared us this depressing long saga to a first great book. You'll want to go to the therapy sessions just to get through this. Terrible.

Disappointing. Much like many, I was truly captivated by "Me Before You." In four hours, I had churned through it, eyes red from the tears. There was something uniquely enrapturing about it. "After You" couldn't have been further from it's predecessor. The pacing was much slower, the characters much less interesting and on the whole, simply mediocre. In the prologue, JoJo Moyes states that she had never intended to write a sequel to the compelling original story. I wish she hadn't. Similar to the follow-up to "The Devil Wears Prada" (a bland, plodding read), Moyes' second effort seems to water down all of the intensity from her hit. If you're curious as I was, you'll inevitably read "After You," but I can't recommend the opposite enough. It isn't that the writing is poor or plot particularly bad, you'll simply never feel the magic from "Me Before You" again.

After you. Pretty good but defintely not as good as the first book me before you. Hoping there is a third book though.

A second hit!. Just like the first book, I couldn't put this one down! The ending is a little more predictable than the first book, but still has some elements of surprise throughout. Wish there was a third book!

Me after You. Loved it!! A fun book to read....

Just ok. I should have just left it alone with the first book and movie.

Me before you book 2. The title I gave it when I purchased it was because it’s Louisa’s story, but it’s under a different light. It's a great read that does justice to every penny spent and every moment spent reading and I have no words to express how interesting it was to see what happens after book 1. The way it begins, made me talk to myself. I was like: omg, look how it starts! I was surprised and I got sad and happy and experienced a wide range of emotions reading it. Can’t wait for book 3.

After You. Loved both books. It's a disservice to call either of JoJo's books a "romance". It's so much more than that. How about wonderful human interest story?

Makes the First Book Feel Like a Pick Me Up. The first book was lovely and believable. Besides the fact that there are so many twists and turns that your head is spinning, it’s really depressing and not life affirming. It’s downright depressing. Don’t waste your time.

After You. Did not like the ending but I suppose it leaves room for another sequel. If Louisa does not end up marrying Sam then I'm done with Moyes.

Lovely, but overly dramatic at times. The series are page-turners; hence the high rating. However, this second installment is more depressing than the first. There was no sobs this time; the writing more predictable. But, it was all around exciting. The character development makes up for the sporadic plot devices. Looking forward to the next!

After You. Real “page turner” excellent read!

After You. Great story with good humor interjected. Worth the read.

After You. A total waste of time. I found it to be a complete mockery of Me Before You.

Story stretch out. The second part is not worth reading, truly the author stretched the story to a point that doesn't make sense. Stick to the first book not necessary to read the second book

Loved It. I love this book. The beginning was quite depressing, but reading it makes you realize the struggle of recovering from a loss and life afterwards; which you don’t see until you experience it or read it and this book shows those raw emotions taking over Louisa’s life. There are twists, really happy moments, and heart wrenching cries. But such a good book. I loved it and would read it over and over again.

A worthy sequel. Loved it so much. Does the first book justice. Made me cry (of course). Great to see these characters moving on. I completely understood Louisa. Definitely one of my favourite series of all time, I would highly recommend this series. Still miss you Will.♥️

Wonderful. Read Me Before You and After you. Both books are amazing. I have read hundreds and hundreds of books but these two are some of the best I've ever read.

An understandably depressing novel. Jojo Moyes has once again captured us with her wonderful writing. Unfortunately,I was highly disappointed with a few factors in this novel. Of course, Louisa Clark is still suffering from the devastating blow from the death of Will Trainor. Louisa's life is boring and bland. She does nothing more than work at a bar at an airport. I felt, after beginning the novel, that any hope you feel at the ending of Me Before You is crushed, and Louisa is utterly upset. It was much too depressing for my taste, especially considering the hopeful ending in the previous novel. Now, the ending of this novel wasn't what I had been dreaming of either. I won't spoil anything, but it was rather disappointing. Despite all my negative comments, I did enjoy the novel. There were some fantastic quotes that I absolutely loved ♥♥♥! So many well written sentences! Thank you for reading my review, and I hope it has been helpful!
