Oh Crap! Potty Training by Jamie Glowacki Book Summary

From potty-training expert and social worker Jamie Glowacki, who’s already helped over half a million families successfully toilet train their preschoolers, comes a newly revised and updated guide that’s “straight-up, parent-tested, and funny to boot” (Amber Dusick, author of Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures).

Worried about potty training? Let Jamie Glowacki, potty-training expert, show you how it’s done. Her six-step, proven process to get your toddler out of diapers and onto the toilet has already worked for tens of thousands of kids and their parents.

Here’s the good news: your child is probably ready to be potty trained EARLIER than you think (ideally, between 20–30 months), and it can be done FASTER than you expect (most kids get the basics in a few days—but Jamie’s got you covered even if it takes a little longer). If you’ve ever said to yourself:

-How do I know if my kid is ready?
-Why won’t my child poop in the potty?
-How do I avoid “potty power struggles”?
-How can I get their daycare provider on board?
-My kid was doing so well—why is he regressing?
-And what about nighttime?!

Oh Crap! Potty Training can solve all of these (and other) common issues. This isn’t theory, you’re not bribing with candy, and there are no gimmicks. This is real-world, from-the-trenches potty training information—all the questions and all the answers you need to do it once and be done with diapers for good.

WORTH EVERY PENNY. I am absolutely positively satisfied with my purchase of this book. We’re 3 weeks into potty training and my 28 month old has blown me away since day one. I can’t stop telling people how successful this approach has been for us. I’m due with my second child in just a few weeks and my wallet is thanking me for not stretching it thin on diapers for two!

Great prose but….. Great prose but condescending and not rational I found. My child was ready to potty train at 3 and 1/2 although we tried to push it early

Couldn’t done it without this book. I had a few attempts to potty training the last one was during the month of September 2017. To say that it was a disaster is an understatement. At that time I was so frustrated that I wasn’t sure if my daughter was ready or not. Feeling completely lost I decided that I needed a roadmap to this potty training business and while reading an article online I came across this book. I decided to go ahead an buy. At that point I didn’t had anything to lose, and a lot to gain. When I started reading this book there were many thing that I didn’t thought about when I tried previous times. I recommend this book to any mom/parent that is as lost as I was. I read the book in couple of days, it is a super easy reading and writen in plain, common sense language. I waited couple of weeks and went back at it. This last time I knew exactly what to look for, and it was a better experience. I still got frustrated on the second day but I kept at it. Today is the 12th day since I started potty training and I can proudly say that she is fully potty trained. It takes time but if you know your child is capable of doing it buy this book and go for it. Enjoy the process, you will feel so proud of your child. Enjoy the potty training journey.

dont recommend. this author does nothing but make you feel shame for not doing things her way. Potty training went so much better and more relaxing when i went off the book and started doing things she claims as big no-nos. I wont recommend this is anyone.

Great advice. This books was a great easy read and gave me the extra boost in confidence (in myself and my son) to go for it. Very relatable and good ways of thinking for parents.

Get this book!. This book is everything! Tells you where to start, addresses all dilemmas you might have and gives solutions to them. The biggest thing that got me through was it validates your feelings. Potty training was rough the first week and got me to the point of tears but this book encourages you to push through and not give up and I’m so glad I didn’t. Buy this book and really read through it and reference back during the process and you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent. I love how blunt she is! She doesn’t lie a lot of the things she talks about did happen and she had the answers in this book. I both enjoyed how easy the book is to follow, read, and execute. We are still one month in but these twin boys are well on there way to success. They have minimal accidents. I did train both night time and daytime training at the same time and feel like she hit it on the head they did learn quite quickly because once diapers were gone completely it didn’t confuse them they just new we don’t do diapers anymore. I loved this book.

Didn't work. I studied this book. Dove right in to potty training when my son was 29 weeks. Stripped him naked waited from some sort of peeing "sign". Nothing and all of the sudden he peed put him on the pot and he stopped did this for three days and no progress. I kid you not there was no sign for peeing with my son. As for #2 yes but the second I caught him put him on the potty he stopped and refused to even try until I gave up. I was defeated and depressed. So I sat and waited a couple of months until I knew he was ready. Took him to the potty every 15 with a pull up on and now he just gets it. Hes almost 3 and got it outside the designated timeframe the author suggested. I wish I can get my money back.

Great Advice - Too Wordy. The steps for potty training were perfect for us! Great advice for how to tackle this monster of a parenting milestone. I do wish the book was more condensed and streamlined for a busy parent. It seems quite repetitive for the sake of a book. I would pay the same amount for less words that just gets to the point.

Potty Training Must-Have. When someone suggested this book to me, I thought “I’m not reading a book on potty training my kid, c’mon.” But THIS BOOK!! I successfully trained my son at 28 months with it. He was going on his own the second day! Do yourself a favor and read it before you start potty training! I tried training him once before and didn’t realize how wrong I was going about it. The methods in the book take the pressure off with no bribes, rewards, timers. Potty training is never easy, but this helps so much. I don’t know how it would have gone had I not read this.

Awesome. Loved this book! I feel confident to start! I’m excited !!

Good info, not enough “what to do”. Info was great regarding all different types of toileting troubles, however not much advice on how to fix problems. Needs steps and dot points.

Amazing & Easy to Read!. I read this book cover to cover in a few days and then skip back and forth whilst in the midst of potty training my 2 year old. He is now 95% potty trained in just 2 months. The book is easy to read and generally just makes sense. I recommend it to everyone. My son’s daycare is fully on board and so proud of him. He is the youngest potty trained kid there. I also had a 4 month old at the time and really enjoyed the process (most of the time).

Saved my sanity!. This method literally stopped me from losing my mind! Solved the issues we were having with our 3 year old boy and has now helped us successfully train our almost 2 year old. Highly recommend!

Concerned. As a parent and as someone who has worked with children for many years I was appalled by the fundamental lack of knowledge within this book. I was uncomfortable with the terminology and language used, horrified at the blatant sexist comments and parent shaming, and just plain flabbergasted by the overall ideas. The main idea being that forcing your child to use the potty whether they are emotionally ready or not just because you as the parent are done with diapers is traumatizing to both parent and child. In my opinion if you love your child do not read this book and If I could I would give it negative 5 stars.

Best parenting book ever!!!!. First, Thanks to God for preparing all the optimal circumstances, and secondly thanks to "Oh crap! Potty training" for teaching me everything I needed to know to start and have success potty training my 21 months-old daughter. we are all very happy and proud of the good job. I followed all the steps and she was ready in less than a week! We wasn't excepting that! Awesome!!!! We haven't started night training (I can't handle not sleeping well), but her night diaper is getting less and less soaked. Thank you!!!!

It’s a good beginning but need a lot of improvement. I love it because: - lots of tips and tricks - answered all my « yes but what if he ... » - cover all the subject Problematic because: - very sexist (if you are non binary you don’t even exist) - big lack of facts and references to prove her point (Harvey Karp is a good example of what to expect from that kind of book). - way to strict method (yes the “when he’s ready” is problematic, but this can be too. Put a lot of pressure on the parents and the kid.) It’s clearly a first edition. She really need to rewrite this book with a pediatrician and a psychoeducator. I’m very happy about my purchase, but I think it’s a dangerous book if you consider your self as a beginner parent. -

Awesome book! Thank you Jamie!. So many great tips! It was a lot of work to potty train but so worth it if you stick to it!
