Intense. Couldn’t put it down

Terrifying, intriguing. Loved the POVs in this book and the story line of the women. The horrifying and explicit scenes of sexual violence are not for the faint of heart, but this book is a page turner!

Gripping page turner. Very intense, a real page turner that may cause you to lose some sleep! It is disturbing, almost sick, definitely not for the faint of heart or anyone that may be triggered by sexual violence. I honestly don’t like reading that stuff but I had to find out what happened so I kept reading it. It is a good one that will stick with you.

WOW. What an amazing read. It took me a few chapters to understand the story, and after that I couldn’t put it down I read it over the course of two days, and I wish it was longer! So well written, and yes, it is a touch graphic, but it didn’t take away from the gripping story line. I found myself skipping forward because I was overly excited lol. It’s a must read for anyone who enjoys crime/mystery/thrillers. Highly recommend!!!

Oh Athens. It was so weird reading a book about my hometown but I Could not stop reading this book. It was the perfect storyline. I love this author now.

Too gruesome. Story entertaining for the most part but details too gruesome.

Not for the squeamish. This book was great. It had a good plot. My issue is that there’s a lot of questions that were left unanswered. Also the switch between the characters would have been more helpful to carry along if they told you at the beginning of the chapter who you were reading from (their POV). Instead of having to figure it out in the chapter because they introduce so many characters that you get a little confused for like the first 50 pages until you sort it all out in your head. I will say that this story had a lot of vulgar, sick and twisted parts that are not for everyone. I wouldn’t recommend this book to my grandmother, but I would recommend it to true crime fans and people that enjoy watching/reading about true crime. So expect to feel a bit uncomfortable if you aren’t comfortable with that sort of thing.

Twistyyyy. I found this book long and confusing in the beginning. Once through the back story and introduction of characters the story starts to shape and keeps you wanting to know more.

Suspenseful!!!. Great read! I could not put it down. The story kept me wanting to read just one more chapter and then just one more chapter. I was disturbed by the violence halfway through the book, and wanted to stop reading, but I wanted to find out what would happen in the end for retribution, so I kept reading. I loved the mystery and suspense of the story. The characters were believable. It was my first read by Karin Slaughter. Well done. Great job!

Amazing book that reads like a horror movie you can’t look away from. I loved this book in all it’s darkness. I read in about a day & a half- as I spent any moment of free time turning page after page. It was easy to picture every detail in my head as I read each sentence- flicking together scenes like a thrilling horror movie in my mind, playing along as each word was read. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone in search of a dark thriller they won’t be inclined to put down.

Thought provoking.. It was gripping toward the middle to the ending! God Bless those that have lost children way too soon.

Soooooooo long. I really wanted to like this book. It was soooooooo long. Soooooo many pages. I feel like the story really could have been condensed to like 300 pages less. I didn’t like the diary parts they were so long and so boring. The story line is okay. It is definitely disturbing, but there is so much fluff in it that made me bored by the time I got to the exciting parts I was annoyed because I just spend 50 pages reading about nothing that was interesting.

Page turner!. This novel was very suspenseful and unpredictable and kept me on the edge of my seat until the end.

Holy gore. What a page turner. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Was almost like a horror movie. This author has a dark mind and writes outstandingly.

Fantastic Read!. I read this book in 2 days! Super exciting I’m the beginning, middle, and end. Does have strong themes of sexual assault, so prepare yourself for that before starting this book. A must-read for a crime junkie!

I heard it as audiobook!. This was so captivating to listen too, as audio is 20 hours really more like 17 hours bc the last 2 hours are another book included is this book(prequel). It was a thriller in the sense that u see one character really have character wake up.

Just kept getting better and better. This book was full of emotion and so amazingly written. Suspense and humor. I was to read every book by her!

It’s really not that gory…. This is a decent novel. Lots of twists; some very predictable, some that really throw you off. As far as the explicit content, it did not bother me at all. Maybe I’m extremely desensitized, but I didn’t read anything that really merited the reviews of how disturbing the descriptions are. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most stomach churning gore, I’d say it’s about a 4. Some cons are, the pacing in the first 150-200 pages is like trudging thru mud and took some effort to stay interested, but then it starts unfolding fast after that. And it’s not the most original storyline. Otherwise, it’s fine.

Wordy and how!. The plot was good. The story was good. I was exhausted every time I would read a chapter because the author went on and on and on about irrelevant details. I will not read any more of her books because trying to get to the meat of the story was like fighting your way out of a bank vault with a plastic spoon.

Perfectly dark. Equally dark and heart wrenching. There were times where I could feel Claire's pain, confusion, and anger. I couldn't put this book down.

Gripping and gory. Really enjoyed this read. Truly for true crime fanatics and folks with thick skins because the violence is heavy handed and extremely detailed. Great twists!

Unnecessarily Too Long. This was filled with fluff to increase page count. Totally bored at times and needed to skip over the telling parts that added no depth to the story at all.

Page turner…every page. I couldn’t stop reading it. Extremely twisted but beyond great.

Very hard to read. It was good but there were some parts that were very difficult to read.

Grotesque. Grotesque. The subject matter isn’t something anybody should want to read. You learn about things that exist in the world that you would never know or want to know. However, there’s no way to know this from the information about the book, which I think is this concerning. I kept thinking there would be some kind of twist to make it not so horrible but it just got worse and worse. There should be some kind of disclaimer.

Wow. Insanely good.. The twists and turns in this book are unmatched. You truly don’t see any of these things coming as the story unfolds. It keeps you wanting more and wanting to know how it all ends. I do think it could of been a little shorter but this story really is worth the read.

Incredible. My new favorite thriller. Incredible storytelling, emotion, and horror. Cannot recommend this book enough.

Trigger Warning. Very dark and graphic. Too wordy overall but decent. Not for the faint of heart.

Suspenseful. To say the most very least. I was beyond impressed with everything this book had to offer. I felt like I was there in the book as it was all playing out! A must read!!

Suddenly graphic, but doesn’t get any worse. Really well written book! Tread carefully, because there’s graphic descriptions of extreme sexual violence towards women in this book. The first instance comes out of no where, but if you can handle the first time it’s described, it really doesn’t get worse as the book goes on. I really enjoyed this book and will be reading more from this author!

Thrilling Horror. I would read this book for hours. I didn’t want it to end. Karin Slaughter did an amazing job with this book, I’m excited to read her others. This is by far one of my favorites!

Awesome Book. I found it to be an amazing story. I was, also thinking, this was written by a woman. The scenes of torture, and brutality, of what humans can do to one another is just not for men.

Chilling..in the best way. Wow. What a great read! This kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book, just as I thought I had it figured out yet another curveball. 5 stars all around!!

Excellent read!. Gripping read, very dark and graphic (you’ve been warned) I completely devoured this book!

Fanfriggentastic. Finally, a novel that ripped me out of my reality. This story sucked me into a world of horror, so real I could not only picture it in my mind but feel through my skin and taste in my mouth. Once I had it figured out I was violently jolted sideways into another direction. Emotionally drained I am left contemplating life, lost life, and trying to figure out why I'm bawling. Wow!!!

Too much. It was really engaging but, honestly, I wish I hadn’t read it. It was too graphic and disturbing. I would read other books by the author - I liked the style, didn’t love the subject...
