Wanna Get Lucky? by Deborah Coonts Book Summary

Part of a Complete Series

“Evanovich…with a dash of CSI.” – Publishers Weekly (review of Lucky Stiff)

Everyone Has a Hidden Talent

For Lucky O’Toole it’s murder…solving it.

Surviving in Sin City takes cunning, a pair of five-inch heels, and a wiseass attitude. Lucky has mastered them all and has a pair of legs she uses to kick butt and turn heads.

As the Chief Problem Solver for the Babylon, Las Vegas’s most over-the-top destination, mischief is in her job description.

She’s good at her job.

She’s less good at life. But who has time for a life when there’s a killer on the loose?

WANNA GET LUCKY?

A woman falls from a tour helicopter to the horror of the 8:30 Pirate show crowd.

Was it suicide? An accident? Could she have been pushed?

Lucky’s day began with the invasion of the Adult Video Awards and Trade show convention.

It got more hectic when the spouse-swapping annual event checked in.

And if adding a body to the mix wasn’t enough, Lucky’s got a new suitor. Her best friend, Teddie, a female impersonator who is pressing to take their relationship to the next level.

Can she really date a man who looks better in a dress?

What happened to the woman over the pirate show?

Will her sleuthing skills catch the killer and save her job?

A light, funny, romantic mystery providing a Vegas escape appropriate for anyone looking for a good laugh. Pick up a copy now and start your adventure.

AN INTERVIEW WITH DEBORAH COONTS

Why did you decide to write humor?

I’m not sure I decided to add snark to the Lucky books, specifically to Lucky’s own voice, it just happened that way. When I was a kid, my mouth always got me into trouble. Finally, I’ve found a way to harness the sarcasm for the Forces of Good—or at least in a way not to anger my grandmother. And when Lucky started talking to me, she had a strong dose of sass in her.

The Lucky O'Toole Vegas Adventure series is hard to categorize. Is that by design?

When I set out to write Wanna Get Lucky?, I knew I wanted to write a romp through Las Vegas. I had the characters and the setting but no real understanding of narrative drive. So, I threw a young woman out of a tour helicopter into the middle of the Pirate Show and let the story unfold. A bit of murder to keep the plot moving, some wisecracking and Vegas mischief to make you laugh, and some romance to keep it interesting. A bit of a mash up, but it works.

PRAISE FOR Wanna Get Lucky

"This is chick lit gone wild and sexy, lightly wrapped in mystery and tied up with a brilliantly flashing neon bow. As the first in a series, Wanna Get Lucky? hits the proverbial jackpot." - Booklist

"Deliciously raunchy, with humorous takes on sexual proclivities, Vegas glitz and love, though Agatha Christie is probably spinning in her grave." - Kirkus Reviews

"Wanna Get Lucky? is a winner on every level. Deborah Coonts has crafted a first-class murder mystery coupled with a touching and unexpected love story. Against a flawlessly-rendered Las Vegas backdrop, Lucky's story is funny, fast-paced, exuberant and brilliantly realized." - Susan Wiggs, #1 New York Times bestselling author

"Get ready to win big--with a novel that will keep you glued to the pages all the way to the end. Wanna Get Lucky? is as entertaining as the city in which it's set." - Brenda Novak, New York Times & USA Today bestselling author

"More fun than a winning streak in Vegas. Lucky O’Toole is a character with brains, beauty, and a wry sense of humor. Readers will want to meet her again—and soon." - Diane Mott Davidson, New York Times bestselling author

"Paints a dead-on portrait of Las Vegas that is somehow dark, outrageous, and hilarious at the same time. Lucky O’Toole is wise, witty, and brimming with cheery cynicism. Wanna Get Lucky? goes down faster than an ice-cold Bombay martini--very dry, of course, and with a twist." - Douglas Preston, New York Times bestselling author

"Wanna Get Lucky? is an amazing debut novel, a mile-a-minute read, with fantastic characters, dry wit, and the gritty neon feel of Las Vegas. Bravo to Deborah Coonts--I see a great future ahead." - Heather Graham, New York Times bestselling author

"Wanna Get Lucky? sizzles. It beguiles and surprises. It's belly-laugh funny. Add in unforgettable characters, crimes to die for, the ka-ching of high-stakes casinos, and Laura Ashley-decorated bordellos, and you have a read that's utterly irresistible from first page to last. Watch out, Janet Evanovich. The new hot number is Deborah Coonts." - Gayle Lynds, New York Times bestselling author

"When it comes to the crunch (something for a sullen teenager, hostile neighbor, unbearably saintly mother-in-law), the secret is to make them laugh. Deborah Coonts's WANNA GET LUCKY? (Forge/Tom Doherty, $24.99), set at the 'most over-the-top mega casino/resort on the Las Vegas Strip,' entrusts the sleuthing to a brainy beauty who sees the lighter side of human folly." - Marilyn Stassio, New York Times Book Review, choosing Wanna Get Lucky? As a Notable Crime Novel for 2010

Wanna Get Lucky. Loved the book! Didn’t expect to have my heart touched to the point of tears! Thank you!

Lucky Double. Funny, upbeat and clever. Well-defined characters and an insider’s view of Las Vegas keeps the reader engaged.

Lucky Me!. Deborah Coonts does not disappoint. I started the series because it was set in Las Vegas . I was hesitant to follow Lucky to Paris, but Coonts’ writing style has captured my intellect as well as my heart. A must read for Lucky fans and a great addition to the series. Thanks Deborah!

Wanna Get Lucky. Loved this book. I lived in Vegas and work a few years in gaming and was happily brought back to all the sounds, smells and fast paced life that is Vegas. I loved reading about a woman leading the way, solving problems and doings so with the respect and admiration of her staff. The story was wonderful, simple and easy to follow. I’ve just downloaded the next in the series and I’m ready to be whisked back to Vegas!

Couldn't put the series down!. I loved the Lucky O'Toole series. I'm so sad I read through them all so quickly. All the characters are likable and the stories written so well!! Found a new great author! ! I hope more books are to come. I'll miss Lucky and her friends!

Want to get Lucky?. Love Lucky, witty, funny and loving. Great read.

Wanna Get Lucky?. Makes me feel like I am in the scene, walking along the strip. Fast pace, dramatic and romantic. Love it!

Wanna Get Lucky. Great fun, moves fast, keeps up your interest. Great entertaining read!

Wanna Get Lucky?. Lots of twists and turns in the plot make a great read! I haven’t enjoyed a character this delightful since Janet Evanovitch’s Stephany Plummer. Look forward to reading more in the series!

Wanna get lucky. Fast-paced and well written !!

Great book. So well written. It made me laugh and it made me cry.

Fun read. A fun easy read!

Wanna Get Lucky. Delicious! I enjoyed every word!

Readergirl43. I’ve read each book in the series, loved all of them each book made me eager to find out what happens next! Lucky is a strong woman who always takes charge and gets things done regardless of her inner turmoil.

Lucky. Really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters.

Good story!. It was a good story with many turns to the end and Luckies solution to the crime. Great descriptions of the interiors of The Babylon. To much to do with the porno stars etc., but other than that a good yarn.

Want to get Lucky. This was a good read, full of surprising twists and turns! I enjoyed it throughout!

From an avid reader. Love to read books like this, will definitely keep this author on my list of must reads!

Lucky. I am so happy to find a heroine that is strong, not wishy-washy, or self-degrading, or pushing others away trying to convince herself that's what she wants. Lucky at least looks at herself truthfully. Don't worry I know she's just a character in a book. It's just nice to read about someone like that. I have alot of catching up to do! Thank you!!

Lucky. Very entertaining read

Loved it!!. Great book, can’t wait to read the others!

Women writer. This book starts out rather well and very interesting but sags under the weight of a female writer. Women write too much sex and thinking into their story line. Too much personal thinking and rationalization from the main character, Lucky. When there are interesting plot lines they are not fully explored. An example is the house party towards the end of the book. Instead of taking the reader through an interesting Vegas sex party there are only a few pages devoted to it and the story takes you to a boring end. Another example is the meeting with corporate heads. The meeting could have been made way more interesting but Gittings was taken away in handcuffs and that was it. The continuing development between Lucky and her mother throughout the book becomes stale and tired while more interesting plot lines could have been developed.

Want to get lucky?. Ed Enjoyed this book almost as much as the adventures of Jane & Zaren in the jungle, etc.

Entertaining. I enjoyed this book.

Wanna Get Lucky. Absolutely WONDERFUL!!! ppssee

Loved it!. I enjoyed this book immensely! Can’t wait to read more!!

Better than I anticipated. This book was a much better read than I anticipated. It was quick moving, interesting & funny. Loved Lucky’s mom. Quite the character. Looking forward to her other books.

Fun read. Witty, engaging sexy with a mystery too! Loved every minute of it!!

Loved every sentence. My favorite "NEW" author!

Fun read. Fun easy read with a touch of mystery, romance, and comedy!

Lucky O’Toole. I love to visit Vegas - so started to read the series as it “seemed a book I would like “ and was set in Vegas. I was right! I loved book one enough that a few months later am now in book 8. Like the characters, the little side stories, and the mystery solving - not too serious and totally enjoyable!!

Wanna Get Lucky. Fun Read. Picked it randomly and thoroughly enjoyed it.

A Great Humanizing and Fun Read. As someone who doesn’t gamble, doesn’t care much for casinos or porn—Lucky’s world was a fun and humanizing look at the lives of people I will never know—and perhaps never understand—; yet, with whom I could relate to as wonderful, warm, human beings whom I could definitely befriend and like.

Wanna Get Lucky. Could not put is down and I’m not a reader. Great story line, help my interest.

Lucky’s. Great read, enjoyed!

Got lucky. Great read, was interesting right from the beginning and kept me reading to find out what was happening. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a little mystery.

Love Lucky!. Loved the plot, descriptions of Vegas behind the scenes and the sarcastic main character! Can’t wait to read more of this series!

Lucky. Really enjoyed the book! Thank you for not ending it to fast!! Enjoyed Lucky and Teddie having some time together after they decided on each other! Leaves me happy and content.. 🙌👏.

Great reading. She’s got brains, is not the usual drop dead gorgeous or 21. She handles every situation, some of which are hysterically funny or so ridiculously accurate as to what customers demand that I was shaking my head in disbelief, knowing all along it was probably true. There was a murder, intrigue, an interesting cast of characters some of which I actually fell in love with. Good editing, no vulgarities, a little sex.

Sexy, funny and invigorating!. What fun book! Enjoy!

Very good. I’m not normally a fan of this genre, but this was really very good.

Get lucky. Fun. Irreverent. Fast. Insane.

Wanna get Lucky. Delightful, funny, cleverly written. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Nice to read and book that kept me guessing. Can't wait to read next in the series. Thank you.

Wanna Get Lucky?. Many twists, a good light read, clever and keeps your attention!

Fun AND has a good plot. This book is a great beach read. Endearing characters who grow on you as you read. She does a great job of leaving some mystery while not being too confusing or deep. A good escape from reality for a few hours.

Interesting. Kept me reading to see what was going to happen next . Will read a few more books. They help me sleep .

Loved it. Entertaining from start to finish. Definitely worth the read

Good book. Very Interesting

Wanna get lucky. Pride and passion, you have both. Keep writing, you’r great Thank you

Well Done!. Couldn’t put it down! Engaging, funny and none stop!

Wanna get Lucky?. There's everything in this book for your entertainment, a fast paced, chaotic thriller with romantic overtones. What more could you want?

Lucky Ce Soir. Wow!!! I’ve just finished reading this book - it only arrived yesterday and the next day it’s finished. A roller coaster ride of epic proportions. Starting a Lucky adventure is akin to sitting down in a ginormous chair with a cup of hot chocolate and all the time in the world to read. It is so lovely to move in Lucky’s world, catching up with familiar faces and, in this instance, being introduced to a completely new Country - and Paris too. I am thinking that I now need to immediately re-read this brilliant adventure so that I can catch the little snippets that I may have missed in my desire to get to the end and find out who really ‘did it’. Another brilliant escapade, Deborah . It may well be time to re-read other Lucky books as well just to that I can have even more fun filled days.

an intriguing, wild ride right from the start.. captivating and packed with action, the character of lucky o'toole hooks readers in and keeps you interested from start to finish. a fun and whimsical book.

Great female lead. No spoilers... What I loved: Deborah Coonts has hit all the right notes with her female protagonist. She’s strong, gets to the point and does it succinctly. I love that she has soft edges to her too... in short, Lucky is a very believable woman doing a role that is also well rounded. This book, book one, is going on my faves shelf and will be read more than once. I’m looking forward to reading book two. What I didn’t like: not having the time to sit and read this story in one fell swoop. It shouldn’t be allowed. Do yourself a favour. Get some chocolate and the drink of your choice, a comfy chair and a cat for your lap. Switch your phone off. Download this book and treat yourself to a damn good read. You deserve it.

Lucky. Really enjoyed it! Reminds me of Stephanie Plum. Looking forward to the next one.

Loved it. Absolutely loved this book. Great characters, storyline and laugh out loud moments. Can’t wait to read more of the Lucky books.

Great read, even if you hate Vegas and piblicveelations. Lucky O’Toole is a smart, savvy operator. Strong, statuesque & with a appreciation for fashion - what more could anyone want of a super hero, without scientifically inexplicable superpowers? The book is fast-paced, action packed and hilariously eye-rollingly “only in Las Vegas”. Keeps a reader enthralled & engaged from first to last page. To describe any of the characters in too much detail would be to give away the fun of reading this book. And for an antipodean reader, having an Australian cool guy, who is also one of the good guys is an added bonus.

Entertaining read with engaging characters. Easy, light read that keeps you interested from cover to cover. Stephanie Plum with brains.

Wanna Get Lucky. Great read .. hard to put down
