A promise of home. I loved this book. I was constantly picking up my phone because I wanted to read it so bad. My overall favorite part was when she met Jake, because you knew that they were meant to be from the beginning.

Ehh. Not a fan. So many things in this story were unrealistic and over the top. Important details were missed that could have made it seem real. And especially the way the characters talked….it felt like a really bad mix of southern and like the Victorian era. So bizarre and just made the entire story feel unrealistic. I also understand the need for characters to say each other’s names more so during dialogue than what you would in person, but holy cow this was over the top and awkward. No thanks…I was just happy to be done with this one.

Sweet and heartwarming. This story is very sweet and tugs at all your heat strings. Not just for Jake and Rosebud, but for everyone in the town. The people are amazing with both strength, protectiveness and their own weaknesses. A Promise of Home sets us up for what could be an amazing small town series. The plot is tangled and twisted with lots of work to get it smoothed out, it will not disappoint! I snagged this when it was free, I'm glad I did!

Loved It!. I loved this story. It had drama, humor, and just the right amount of spice. My only complaint would be some editing issues, but they weren't annoying enough to stop me from reading the whole book. I plan to continue reading the series.

A Promise of Home. What a wonderful place to take yourself. I love to go to these places where you can really, in your mine be there. The book was great, the characters are just down to earth, people who could be in your hometown, not, could be, they do. 🌹 So, set down, relax and more then enjoy a great read.

A Promise of Home. Good read, couldn't put it down! Will definitely read the series!

A promise of Home.. I loved this story. It kept my interest. Thank you so much.

Well written story. Wendy Vella does a great job with her characters. Here writing is not simplistic, her characters have some depth and her dialogue is snappy and realistic. I could hear Brianna's brogue. Nicely done. I will make the jump and purchase Tex's story next to see how the sophomore effort plays out.

Beautiful story. I loved the story and the characters. The author inspires friendships and family values in the story with humor and suspense. Great story.

Great story line, poor editing. Overall, I thought the book had a good storyline and continued to surprise me until the very end. The book needs some major revisions as I came across many spelling and grammatical errors. I was able to tell what word the author meant to use, but it can be annoying to come across such simple words such as "and" that are misspelled.

Great. What a great story.. I laughed and cried. The relationships between all the characters were heartfelt.. I loved it and will be moving forward to complete the series

A Promise of Home. I truly enjoyed this book. I love romance with a bit of stressful situations involved. Looking forward to more books in this series and other books by the author. Thanks for a great read!

Good story. Liked the book. It had intrigue, romance and good characters. I would recommend spell check and running the story thru a word checker. I would read more of this series

A Promise of Home. I enjoyed the book.

A Promise Of Home. Loved loved the book. Like happy endings. The characters are so vivid feel like I know them and the small town they live in. Can’t wait to read more books from this author.

A Promise of Home. A bit of mystery and a lot of romance. Good coverage of PTSD. Has a few typos but they do not cause one to lose the story although I don’t like seeing them. What ever happened to proofreaders and beta readers?

A Promise of Home. Very good story with drama, romance, and emotion. Good reading!

A promise of home. Very well written. Only took a couple days to read. Mostly because I didn’t wanna put it down. She’s a very good writer.

A promise of home. A very good read. Good author TKS ..dc

Great story. Fun, enjoyable story with characters you easily want to cheer for. I love a series that makes you want to keep going to see what happens next.

Wendy Vella’s writing stands out. Branna learned long ago not to form emotional attachments, so after three years of high school in Lake Howling, she took off for college and never looked back. In the years since, Branna has stayed in touch with only one person, a kindly old neighbor who provided the only real support and stability that Branna ever knew. But now Georgie's passed away, leaving Branna her house and beloved vintage Mustang, and Branna finds herself returning to the town she never intended to see again. Jake was the boy everyone wanted to be back in high school. Fun, popular, and surrounded by friends, it seemed almost guaranteed that the future was his to take. But war has a way of changing people, and after a traumatic stint in combat, he's ditched his medical license for odd jobs as a mechanic and spends his nights fighting his way out of the battles in his mind. Lake Howling is the town that raised him and believed in him, but the golden boy he once was is long since dead. But... Why doesn't Branna, supposedly once a college-level English professor, have enough knowledge of the language to school Mikey on the proper use of ain't rather than incorrectly tell him it's not a word? I might not have expected her to know which century saw it change spelling from an't to ain't, but I can't imagine the advanced degree necessary to teach English at that level would have neglected any study of the language's rather recent history. With that limited knowledge, I could have believed she was a third-grade teacher, but I'm not sold on her being a professor of English. The Verdict: A Promise of Home wasn't exactly what I expected, and that's a very good thing. Unlike most stories in which the central pair are reunited after brief adolescent relationships, pointless feuds, or secret crushes on each other, Branna and Jake have a different connection. Distant and detached in high school, Branna never really responded to Jake's few attempts at friendship, and Jake never really gave it much thought. But now that life has kicked him around a bit as well, he's just as wounded by the past as she is, and their issues are what lead to their better understanding each other. Their small town plays almost as big of a character in the story as Branna and Jake do, and it's pretty authentic. It does include the requisite town grapevine, inability to remain invisible, and tendency of the locals to get into each other's business. However, it avoids becoming the ridiculous cliche I find in most books set in such a place, and it made each scene less predictable and more interesting. As it turns out, Branna's disconnection from the town is mostly in her own mind, and soon enough she begins to feel that she's not only accepted but welcomed. And as much as Jake wishes he could just fade away into the background, the town cares about him too much to let him destroy himself. Most interesting, though, is the dynamic between them. While they don't loathe each other, they really have no interest in each other at first. Sure, they each notice how attractive the other is, but they have no intentions of acting upon it. Fortunately, happenstance keeps placing them in each other's way, despite their best efforts to keep their guards up, and both Branna and Jake seem to subconsciously recognize a fellow wounded soul. Watching them begin to accept that something more is growing between them was half the fun! It's difficult to describe what makes this romance so different from the others I read without giving away some refreshingly surprising turns in the story. It's not the plot or the characters or the dialogue… I think it's just something in Wendy Vella's writing that stands out. The story is serious and emotional without being overly angsty, the characters' interactions are both funny and moving, and the pace is quick without ever feeling rushed. There's an authenticity in their actions and words, not to mention the presence of everyone else in town, that really struck me, and even as I grew frustrated with Branna and Jake's issues putting their pasts behind them, I found myself agreeing that their experiences justified their shared reluctance to take a new risk. A Promise of Home is certainly a pleasant surprise in an otherwise cookie-cutter genre. ***FicCentral received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. Bella review. I enjoyed this contemporary author. She focuses on the story and characters

A promise of home. The stammering was annoying. A couple of times can be overlooked but it continued and was done by a few of the characters. Annoying!

A Promise of Home. About half way through the book I realized I had already read this once before. However, I went ahead and finished it because I enjoyed it as much the second time around. Great characters and storyline.

Loved. Loved reading about Jake and Branna. The aftermath of war, and family tragedy. How it effects people around them.

good. I enjoyed reading about the interactions between people in this small town. The two main characters were both broken people who found within each other a reason to open themselves up to love. I loved the secondary characters and am looking forward to reading about some of them in the next book. Recommended read.

Really enjoyed. I found this read a very pleasant read. The story is well written & humorous. The boys added spice & the book club was a hoot. Would of liked to have read more on the book club. Great way to showcase PTDS.... 🤓

Gorgeous. What a great story. I really loved the humour between the male characters especially... Sweet and easy read.

A Promise of Home. Really enjoy this book and loved Jake & Brianna’s story. Their struggles with their pasts and how they fought for their love because both didn’t think they could let other people into their lives. They care more for their friends and family than they want anyone to know. Maz
