Shallow with Missed Opportunities. Colleen Hoover books kept popping up on BookTok as “must reads”. I felt that this book was lacking depth and missed so many opportunities to show truth behind abusive relationships and not romanticize the struggle of breaking generational trauma. Not to mention just genuinely skip over that entire process. If you’re a fan of drama that stays at the surface level with the slightest hint of depth without actually touching the deep then this book is perfect for you. Great beach read with a hint of controversy without making you uncomfortably look at yourself or your relationships. If you prefer your books to submerge you in the truth of human interaction, books that make you see different points of view, books that make you discover something new, then I would look elsewhere.

Ridiculous. Couldn’t stop rolling my eyes at how cheesy/cringy this book is. It’s extremely predictable and feels like a teenager wrote it.

finished in a day!!. i loved this emotional journey and couldn’t put it down!! it’s intense, funny, sexy, and real in all the best ways. had to read the sequel as soon as i finished!!

Prepare a few boxes of Kleenex before starting this book!. I usually don’t leave a review, but this book is different. Good, awesome way, different. Prepare yourself for a roller coaster of emotions like never before. I can assure you that you have never read a book that would make you feel every single word in it. I cried when I started, I cried halfway and I cried at the end of that epilogue. This book, has made me appreciate the life I have build for myself and my family. THIS IS A MUST READ! I honestly want to buy a physical copy and frame it! ✨

All the emotions. I quite literally felt every emotion a person can feel whilst reading this book. An absolute must read. Such a realistic story, absolutely joyous, but heart wrenching at the same time.

Ok. The first half of the book really had me. The second fell flat. I feel like the same themes and conversations were happening over and over in different words and dialogue. Over all it’s not terrible. It’s ok.

Book justifies abuse. This book is about a woman in a physically abusive marriage. It justifies and sympathizes with the abuser without repercussions. The author makes it seem like the abuse was not too bad even though the wife could have died on 2 occasions.

A glorified watt pad. And that’s an insult to wattpads writers.

Couldn’t put it down. I honestly couldn’t put this book down! Every part had me at the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. Romance, heartache, friendship, everything is in here.

Gut wrenchingly good!. Love is not easy. Life lessons are not easy. Doing what you know is right isn’t always easy, but the way Colleen tells this story, makes it easy to not put down till the end.

Unfortunately and fortunately resonates with me.. Wonderful, insightful and inspiring but only after going through many highs and lows. Recommend highly.

Sophomoric read. Can’t believe all the raves about this book. Feels like it was written by a 14 year old for a 14 year old. I like characters that have depth. Maybe some of her other books are good but I will never buy another one written by her.

It has potential. 1. The names are absolutely terrible and makes the romance of the book feel as if it’s being told by Adam Sandler, and this only gets worse in the sequel. 2. The sexiness, romance, drama & seriousness of the book is subdued by the Finding Nemo references & Ellen, making the writer of this story feel amateur. I feel as if the humor just fell flat. 3. Also, I know that it’s fiction but the ages versus successes of the characters didn’t hold a realistic aspect, which just added to the cringe of it all. This book is a good teenage read, and perhaps not for the mind of a 20-something.

Still feeling that ending. This was an incredible story, and many parts brought me to tears. I could feel what Lily felt in each moment and struggled through each decision right along with her. Beautiful ending.

This is the book that changed my feelings about love. I can’t even describe the feelings I went through the first time I read this book. I was told it was a romance book, that is a horribly wrong description. This is not a romance novel it is a story that covers a very important and sensitive topic. This book was almost like a wake up call to me it really helped me understand the perspective of the abused, they don’t always know that they’re being abused. They get blindsided by love and promise. This is something so many people across the world have struggle with and continue to, and the fact that someone can do that to another person, and then convince them that they are the one in the wrong is so scary. This book shows how this happens as well it really brings a light to the gaslighting that takes place which not only makes it physical but also mental abuse. When someone has just been injured by you and then you proceed to tell them it was their fault, and that they did it to them self is truly and horrific thing to do. I could talk about this book all day long but to bring it to a rap I just want to say that this book changed me and the way I feel about reading, I didn’t read much before it but now I have 7 Colleen Hoover books simply because this book showed me how much words can bring a story to life. The fact that this is a true story as well just makes it even more powerful. I recommend reading the authors note at the end of the book. I already have it starts with us on preorder it arrived at my house today so I am so excited to read it. Much love, stay safe❤️

Okay, not my cup of tea. I personally felt like the takeaway message from this story wasn’t great. Characters didn’t have much dimension to them, and the vocab was underwhelming. Good story, not so great execution.

I was skeptical. So many romance novels have the same kind of story lines to the point you know what’s going to be said next. I found myself losing interest in them honestly. But this? Amazing, plot twists, heartbreaking and overall just breathtaking. I cried lots, I laughed out loud and I genuinely enjoyed reading this. Phenomenal.

Read twice now. Colleen is such an amazing writer. I absolutely love this book. I have read it twice now and will still read again.

omg. holy moly, this book put me through such an emotional roller coaster ✋🏼. before it ends with us, i hadn’t read anything in 6 years. the only reason i started reading it was because of my friend paige. she said i should read it and i was like maybeee but then i didn’t. then she recommended it to my other friend alexa, and she started reading it. they were always talking about it and i felt left out of the convo so i started reading it. next thing i know, i’m finished before alexa cause i read 10 chapters every day lol. i finished the book in less than a week! not super impressive, but for someone who never EVER reads i think it’s pretty decent. anyway this book is so good. it’s not your average love story. it deals with the topics of physical and emotional abuse, which really makes the love story so much deeper. anywho i would recommend this book to anyone with a brain and a heart. idec if it’s not their kind of book. anyone in the right mind would love it. (atlas corrigan 🫶🏼)

Okay. Honestly I didn’t love it. Don’t get me wrong- it’s a good book with an important message about abuse. The characters are dynamic and the story is interesting enough to keep you reading but I just didn’t feel like it was awe inspiring like I was lead to believe. It’s a little repetitive and for such a deep and hard hitting message I found it a little shallow. 🤷‍♀️

I'm torn. I fell in love with the characters and their different mindsets. The whole book is so good that I finished the whole thing in a day! The connection between the characters is very interesting. Lots of ups and downs which makes it interesting. Love the plot twist in this book so much. I just feel torn about the outcome. Colleen really gave us a roller coaster ride. Definitely recommend this book for hot people and I also recommend "It Starts With Us"
