Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow Book Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

"A haunting, beautiful, and necessary book."—Nicola Yoon, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Everything, Everything

Charlotte Davis is in pieces. At seventeen she’s already lost more than most people do in a lifetime. But she’s learned how to forget. The broken glass washes away the sorrow until there is nothing but calm. You don’t have to think about your father and the river. Your best friend, who is gone forever. Or your mother, who has nothing left to give you.

Every new scar hardens Charlie’s heart just a little more, yet it still hurts so much. It hurts enough to not care anymore, which is sometimes what has to happen before you can find your way back from the edge.

A deeply moving portrait of a girl in a world that owes her nothing, and has taken so much, and the journey she undergoes to put herself back together. Kathleen Glasgow's debut is heartbreakingly real and unflinchingly honest. It’s a story you won’t be able to look away from.

And don’t miss Kathleen Glasgow's novels You’d Be Home Now and How to Make Friends with the Dark, both raw and powerful stories of life.

Raw. Touching. True.. This book touched my heart. It gave a voice and insight to the struggles so many people face internally. I definitely recommend this book. I feel it should be on everyone’s reading list.

wow. i couldn’t of asked for a better book to read on one of those days.

loved it. this was such a good read. i wish i could read it for the first time again. loved it so much, it didn’t romanticize depression like many books and writing do, and really portrayed her life just so, perfectly.

Love it. I loved this book it was a quick read couldn’t put it down very intense

Worth reading. This was an amazing read! I think that there should be a sequel!

This is amazing. This story is so real about how hard it is to stop. People who have never self harmed don't get how hard it is.

i love thjs. i absolutely love this book. i’ve read this so many times and it never gets old. i recommend this for absolutely everyone. please read this.

So good. This is one of those books where you cry as you heartstrings are pulled, but wipe away the tears as quickly as you can so you can keep on reading. I wish everyone had a chance read this book because then maybe people would have more sympathy for others and greatfullness for what they have because the life Charolette lives in really shows us what pain is. We all need some good tears like the kind that this book holds in its pages.

SPOILER ALERT!!!. I loved this book ! It was really dark though. But I could definitely relate to Charlie. The only thing I didn’t like was that Rylie was a cheater

Love it. This book is so deep and raises awareness for people who go through this kind of stuff

A Perfect Book. I absolutely loved reading this book! It’s raw and beautifully written. I think every woman of teenager and up should read this. This story connects to you so deeply, I’m just at an awe of how opening the story was to my eyes. Thank you, thank you for such a well written story. I am grateful to have read it.

:’). kinda wattpady at some points but i liked it and it made me cry

OH MY GOD. This story is amazing it is so hard to stop reading. I’m completely speechless about how deep and good this book is right now. 😍😍

Heart wrenching and beautiful, will stay with you long after your finished. Kathleen Glasgow has handed us her heart within the pages of this book. In this chilling reality which so many people live. A girl lost in her own skin, not knowing who she really is or if she can survive and back away from the edge. Charlotte is broken, she has no one left to fix her, to put the pieces of herself back together. She is on the edge and about to fall over. As I read page after page, I realized I was not reading a simple book I was privy to someone's innermost thoughts. I could feel the sorrow and angst rolling off of Charlotte. The bitter pain of not having anyone left to turn to. The cool smooth glass as she rubbed it between her fingers. I could feel the ridged bumps of scars upon scars as she ran her hands over her arms. It all but ripped my heart out. Every word written upon the page felt alive, it felt as if the story was a deep ocean swelling with emotions, crashing down on the reader. I felt the raw honest devotion poured into each individual character. I love the way the book is written, how it starts off short and poetic, giving us a taste of how it must feel to be inside Charlottes mind. Then it blossoms into a rhythm that envelops the reader in the bumpy road of self healing Charlotte takes. Charlotte as a character embodies the very thing people wish to ignore, she is an in your face wake up call without having to say a word. She fights for herself, even when she thinks she's failed she is still fighting. That is the best message anyone can give is to never stop fighting for yourself. No matter who left her behind, No matter what happened to her. No matter what got in her way and once again shoved her to the ground or caused her to fall back into old habits, she took a look at herself and decided to change and change she did. She proves that no matter how far you fall you can always get back up, as long as you never give up on yourself. Kathleen put so much of her heart into this book I would swear it became a living thing. Thank you for sharing yourself with us. **I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, the words above are my honest opinion of the book. My review has not been altered or affected by the author**

It rly put a perspective. This read kinda put your mind in what some people might feel like at there lowest . I enjoyed reading this book.

Amazing. Everything about this, every word was so relatable. I don’t even have words to describe it. Just read it.

😼hi fellow sh’rs ig. um so i love love love this book with all my heart, such a good read. really explains the problems that me and other people face. i love how riley and her’s relationship is do raw and down to earth compared to most cliché relationships. i really love the way this book portrays all the right emotions. should def read, it was a good vent book!

Jaw dropping.. Girl In Pieces was yet another masterpiece made by Kathleen Glasgow. The amount of hurt and pain I was able to feel through the pages kept me reading. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a good, upsetting book in which it makes you relate to the character at moments. Absolutely beautiful. 5 stars.

Sad. Hopefully these reviews are just for me bc idk how to rate. Anyway

absolutely insane.. this book just blew me away. the storyline, the plot twists. wow, just wow….

Amazing book!! Sad, interesting, and so eye opening.. One of the best books I’ve read. As I was reading I think about putting myself in her shoes & I think she did the right thing at the end but that would’ve been hard for. This book explains and allows the readers to get an understanding of how life events and other things influence the behavior and feel for someone who is trying to work through stopping self harm.

Girl in Pieces. This book touched my heart. Self-injurious behavior is all too common in our society and often misunderstood. The potential and resilience of people, despite their depreciative tendencies, should never be underestimated. Everyone deserves a chance and the opportunity to experience genuine kindness.

thanks for this :). This book really did something for me….I’m really struggling right now and it seems like no body on earth can comprehend anything I’m going through like their ignorant to any negative emotion I feel but reading this made me feel like hopeful or something like eventually I’ll figure my life out I guess….anyway this book is amazing gave me something to do in this dark hole I’m in right. I’m glad I found this book.

AMAZING. charlies story to me was so grasping and i loved how relatable she was at times. her and the stories development was so good. kinda bland in the beginning to me but it gets so good after a while. very triggering to faint hearted people WARNING

this is my favorite author.. me and my boyfriend loved every minute of this book! i love how she writes so much it makes the story so much better n makes me personally understand and picture it more.

Read it!. I loved this book. Real and sad and hopeful.

Amazing. I’m an English PhD student, so it goes without saying that I read a lot of books. This book is one of my favorite books ever, I think. The topics are challenging and raw and real, and give a voice to stories that deserved to be told more often. I’ll be thinking about Charlie, and Riley, and Ellis, and Blue for weeks. This book actual moved me to tears multiple times, and I wish I could read it for the first time again. The writing is wonderful, and I ended up binge reading it in two days. Thank you, Ms. Glasgow for reminding me about why I love reading. 100/10, I wish I could rate this higher than five stars.

Cutting awareness. This book is very disturbing but makes you very aware of other means of mental illness .

<3. I loved this book because it was raw.. an honest, disturbing, real story. A story with ups and downs, setbacks and achievements. It was real. I loved how her and Riley’s relationship was portrayed, not cliche in the way most are, but transparent. If you’re looking for a book that’ll motivate to do better this is it

Girl in Pieces. I loved this book would recommend reading it ,although it might have some moments where you might want to take a break.it was very addicting to read,I don’t read books very often so that means a lot 10/10

😍. I love this book so much it really hits close to home for me. the toxic relationship with an older guy felt so raw and visceral

Excellent. I’m not much of a reader. I have a hard time with the words and following along. However this was an easy amazing read. I felt in touch the entire time keeping me reading for hours which is very unlike me. 10/10 read, *chefs kiss*

incredible. i absolutely love this book! its nice that they talk about self harm because its not talked about enough.

Loved this book. I loved this book so much recommended it to almost everyone I know

amazing. it's a really good book i love it

Comfort book for sure.. Charlie's story is similar to my own. 4 months after I turned 15 my family and I ended up living in a tin shed. Things got really hard and I, like Charlie needed to cut my darkness out so I did. Things have slowly gotten better but I still struggle. Anytime things get hard I return to this book, its familiar pages. I will always return to Charlie and her story in hard times.

You’ll regret not reading... I loved this book. It seriously climbs inside the mind of a real teen, dealing with life’s struggles. Everything comes to life, making everything feel that much more real. It helps put into words the things we feel but can’t explain. I’m grateful I read this book, it’s a great reminder that you’re never truly alone, and someone feels the same way, somewhere.

😻. I love it

I love the title because it gives it to you straight and gets right to the point. One of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read. I read this book in 2 days because I was unable to put it down! This book was realistic and showed the ugly parts of being human and how hard it can be. I will hold this book close to my heart and more then likely go back and reread it. I 100% recommend it for anyone who loves to read and loves the truth.

Phenomenal. Must read, shows you the true glimpse into the struggles of someone fighting to love themselves. Cried almost all the way through.

❤️. I thought this book was really great, as a self harmer myself, I thought it was very well written and I felt a connection with Charlotte. I hope this book helped other people like me like the way it helped me, I was really surprised to find out at the end when I was reading the authors note that Kathleen Glasgow was also like me but that explained why it was so well written.

Haven’t read it. I haven’t read it yet but I’m going through financial issues so I can’t afford the book but I hope it’s good!

10/10. Muy muy chida:3

Head spinner. Everyone talks about how movies or a favorite show can have you grasping the edge of the couch cushion or not blinking in fear of missing a single second because the scene is so good! In this book each page you turn will have your emotions up and beyond that point. The attention to detail and descriptive narrative of the story alone paints such an Elaborate image in the readers mind! If you like plot twist this is the book to grab!

i love it. this is an amazing book!

amazing. when i read this book it made me really realize what some people go through. i think this book really opened me up to others people way of living and what they have gone through. this book will forever have a place in my heart

READD IT ❤️. This novel is trigerrringgg but its something that actually happens in real life

a rare gem. beautiful writing style, with just enough context to paint a hauntingly glittering picture- without getting bored. portrays mental illness without all the glamourizations attached. an amazing book, in my opinion.

Absolute Must Read for Everyone. This book is a glimpse into a very difficult and terrifying way of life for some of us. My daughter struggles with this mental illness and I have never bothered to reach out into this subject out of fear. This book is comforting and educational in a way that you can understand their reasoning in their minds. As I finished the book in the final pages I cried because to me my daughter is the most beautiful thing inside and out and I am so very proud of her struggles and successes but I just never understood how someone can be so lost and not able to defend themselves against themselves. Now I have a glimpse.......

Amazing. This story was so amazing I got to read a story that is about what I also am going through rn ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you. This really is the most “realistic” book on this subject I’ve ever read. It actually captures every feeling, every detail. Thank you for writing this.

Future author. This book was like it was made for me I cried because I knew and felt that someone was going through the same as me. I speak through art and writing. I have no friends and continue to cut its an addiction and I can’t get rid of it. Reading helps me cope and this book did especially. I found my new favourite author and one day I hope to be yours! (12 year old girl living in Calgary)

one of the most beautiful books ive read. throughout this book, i found myself in charlie. two years ago, i went into life unprepared too. i now have a beautiful one year old and a beautiful life. thank you to the people who write stories about people like me. we need it and appreciate it more than youll ever know.

wow. it’s the kind of book that leaves you feeling so sad yet fulfilled. you feel like you’ve felt all of her emotions, like you went through all her struggles with her. this is the only book that i can read again and again and still feel the emotion in it. read it.

Real,Raw and excellent.. This book is the type of book that leaves you wanting to know more and read more I really want a second book in this to find out what happens to Charlotte and Ellis ...along with other characters

angelic. this book was perfect it started off slow and I truthfully didn’t like it at first but once I got into it I couldn’t get it out of my mind every single moment I wanted to read this book and finish it. the bittersweet feeling you feel when you finish a book you really love came with this one. the feelings and emotions you will experience while reading this book are undescribable. if you have a chance i would 110% recommend reading this book. it will tug on your heartstrings. truly an angelic book.

Good I’d love to read more then the sample but I sadly can’t. Good book but I can’t buy it sadly but I would love to
