Psychological thriller potential squandered in sloppy denouement.. While beginning as a fun sociological study of two mothers and the very different lives they lead, the story takes a twist and pulls the reader down a path of promising intrigue that speaks to the desire to find acceptance in a community, the willingness to overlook the obvious and ultimately the draw to betrayal. There was a lot potential for this to be a great story, but as the author began to reveal plot points, a trove of holes in the logic were uncovered that made the experience more frustrating than exciting.

Great book!!. I couldn’t wait for the movie to come out, so I decided to read the book and I couldn’t put it down!!! What a great ending!! It was one of those “OMG” moment!! I’m still going to go see the movie when it opens on 14 Sept!!! I want to compare the book and the actual movie!! I can’t wait!!

Uh... where’s the ending?!. This book was an attention-grabber right from the beginning. It did take a little getting use to, as it’s written like a journal, almost. There were some details that really didn’t need to be added, as they didn’t affect the storyline at all and seemed to be unnecessary. But the story itself was good. The only thing it was missing was an ending. There was no ending. At all. The author DID do a great job of making the personalities of the three characters seem authentically different, it really seemed like it was three people and not just one person writing three parts. I bought this book because I wanted to read it before watching the movie, but now that I’ve finished the book, I don’t necessarily want to watch the movie. Mainly because of the lack of a closure.

I need to know what happens. What kind of ending is that?! Just as I was on the edge of my seat BOOM an excerpt from another book WHAT THE HELL? Is there a part 2?!

Predictable and poorly written. This book was so contrived and the writing was poor and ineffective. The characters are flat. I am surprised this is so popular and disappointed I read it.

Good title/. The beginning of the book is captivating, but begins to be predictable. The ending leaves a lot to be desired. The first 2/3 is good.

Don’t waste your time and money. I’m glad I waited to buy this book until after the hype of the movie died down. I feel better about paying $2.99 for a terrible/weird book as opposed to the $12.99 that it was several months ago. The characters were awful, especially Stephanie. OMG, she was so obnoxious that it almost made the book too unbearable to finish. Just save your money. This book was so disappointing.

Worst ending ever - just cuts off. One of those books you put all your time into reading in hopes that it will all tie together in the end and then it just cuts off. No answers, no ending. The woman commits crimes - including murder -with the intelligence and grace of an emotional teenager and its implied at the end that she simply suggests it’s someone else and gets away with it? Stupid. Spent 3 days reading that I’ll never get back.

The truth that lies. The ending was a total let down.

Wonderful read!. I bought this book yesterday afternoon and could NOT put it down. Every chance I got, I was reading it. I'm always one to figure out certain twists to stories. Some I could, some I couldn't with this one. Either way, it was well written and I enjoyed it overall. I'm so excited to see the movie!!

A must read. Wonderful reading, great plot. Couldn’t stop reading, finished in 48 hours. Didn’t enjoy the movie very much though, the book is definitely better! Highly recommend.

Movie is way better. I had so much confusion with the book. I did not like Stephanie. She was so absurd and naive. The movie fixed a lot of things I wish the book did better. But the overall story was intriguing and i read straight through.

Wish I’d skipped it. The movie trailer looked interesting and I figured I’d read the book first since books are always better. Sadly I was wrong. Not a fan of the writing at all. The story was just blah and the ending was lame. I really disliked the characters. There was nothing of them to really like. Really disappointing in the plot and the writing as a whole.

Must read!. I couldn't put this book down. With so many unexpected twists, this book was definitely one of the best I have read in a while. Would recommend to anyone looking for a suspenseful thriller to read. Look forward to seeing more from this author.

A simple favor.. I believe this author has potential in a big way. However it seemed they got bored which the story line and I walked away at the end feeling I had been set up for a second book. Something like “ and here’s the rest of the story. “ book two $10.99. Or perhaps she just couldn’t find a way to wrap it up that would be at least as believable as the first half had been. I felt a little cheated for my time and my thoughts and my money. But she has writing skills enough to keep me reading all the way to the slightly disappointing ending. I will look for the author again and hope I am not disappointed. Lynn Holmes.

Huge Disappointment. I purchased and read this EBook based on buzz about the upcoming move and the incessant iTunes ads for it in my Twitter feed. I can honestly say it was one of the worst books I’ve read in a long time. The writing is simple, almost juvenile. The characters are flat. Facts, which the author probably intended to be surprises to the reader, were predictable. The ending was sudden and dissatisfying. I haven’t made a poor book choice in a while - guess I was due. No longer looking forward to the movie - but I certainly hope it’s better than the book.

Terrible Ending&Drawn out plot. Not recommended! The ending was terrible and the plot had large gaping holes while also being horribly predictable. Spark notes version will save you time and money if you’re still interested.

Couldn’t put it down, bad ending. The author does a great job of taking you through the twisted plot. I spent two days emotionally invested in the characters but that slowly diminished toward the end. Literally no one had my vote and it was so disappointing. I was hoping for more closure and a better “big reveal”. Interesting psychological thriller.

Not worth it. Bought to read on a plane trip. Easy read, but incredibly predictable and flat characters. Maybe if you like reading about unaccountable, rich, bored people.

Starts slow, but picks up steam. Each character tells their version of what happened. It starts slow and is written in a kind of child like style for one character and then in a grittier style for others. I don’t want to give too much away. The ending is stunning, if not a bit disappointing. Whatever you do, don’t watch the movie after you read it, because the movie does not follow the book.

Horrible. This book has a horrible dark and twisted plot. The women in this book are the example of why the metoo movement is a so concerning. Women can be evil, manipulating, controlling, and conniving and will stop at nothing to be the dominant powerful sex.

Until the End. This was a great book until the end - what a boring ending for a suspenseful book. I guess it left itself open for interpretation or imagination (or maybe a sequel) but really not a great ending. The ending the the movie however was significantly worse, so there is that....

Easy read. Loved this book for the simple fact it was straight forward, easy to read & kept me wanting more.

Not a tough read. Although it was a nice easy read the weird and desperate plot twist leave you few cheated. “It was her twin” jumped the shark!

A Simple Favor. This book was crazy and intriguing. I loved how the plot twist kept changing. I. Had a hard time putting down because I was so excited about what would happen next. I was however very disappointed with the ending.

Not like the movie. I read this before the movie and love the characters, the plot, all the things that build up to an ending that just leaves you hanging. A million times better than the movie. The little details that are different change everything and create a great story versus an awful movie. Even if you like the movie, the book is a million times better!

Feeling incomplete. I watched the movie first and then discovered there was a book and I have to say I much more enjoyed the movie. It moved faster and the plot played out much sooner and there was an ending whereas this was a cliffhanger and just ended feeling incomplete.

So bad. Absolutely horrible. Hated all the characters. I found it very disturbing. The ending just left us hanging after wasting our time reading this awful book. No clue how this became a move, don’t waste your time reading this, it was just plan bad.

Poor ending. The book was such a great read until the ending. This could also be due to me stopping midway to go see the movie. I knew the movie ending would be a little different than the book but I felt like the whole book had this huge build up and the ending just fell flat. Maybe the author was leaving it open for a sequel but I wouldn’t be interested to read another good book with a flat line ending...

No ending. I couldn’t believe the ending-there wasnt one. All that suspenseful buildup and then the ending fell completely flat with absolutely no closure for any of the issues or characters. Very disappointed.
