The Kremlin's Candidate by Jason Matthews Book Summary

The “terrifically good” (The New York Times Book Review) finale in the New York Times bestselling Red Sparrow trilogy continues the dangerous entanglements of Russian counterintelligence chief Dominika Egorova and her lover, CIA agent Nate Nash, on the hunt for a Russian agent working in the US government.

Russian president Vladimir Putin is planning the covert assassination of a high-ranking US official with the intention of replacing him with a mole whom Russian intelligence has cultivated for more than fifteen years.

Catching wind of this plot, Dominika, Nate, and their CIA colleagues must unmask the traitor before he or she is able to reveal that Dominika has been spying for years on behalf of the CIA. Any leak, any misstep, will expose her as a CIA asset and result in a one-way trip to a Moscow execution cellar. Ultimately, the lines of danger converge on the spectacular billion-dollar presidential palace on the Black Sea during a power weekend with Putin’s inner circle. Does Nate sacrifice himself to save Dominika? Does Dominika forfeit herself to protect Nate? Do they go down together?

With a plot ripped from tomorrow’s headlines, The Kremlin’s Candidate is “both timely and timeless; an espionage tale that takes the reader behind and beyond the headlines of Russia’s assault on America” (Nelson DeMille).

The Kremlin’s Candidate. Abrupt, dismal ending. All but last 10 pages 4 stars, last 10 pages 0 stars, it sucked, was rushed an inconsistent to the narrative of the trilogy. It’s almost as if Jason went to the bathroom and his 9 year old son wrote the end.

Kremlins Candidate. Loved it. Very compelling, despite some over-the-top moments. Like the first two books of the trilogy, the characters sometimes sound like they’re in Casablanca. Regardless, the plot is great, as are the meticulous details of modern spy-craft, which manage not to bog the story down. Here’s hoping for at least one more book!

Great book but.... SPOILER ALERT; Once again a fantastic book but the horribly tragic ending was far too much to bear. There was no need end the book like that. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren’t for the terrible ending.

Amazing spy craft drain a real CIA agent, great recipes and a trained sex operative from Russia!. I have grown up with Ian Fleming , moves on to John Le Carre but really enjoyed the depth of the characters and at least seeming reality of the dangers of espionage. The recipes are a light hearted break but also seem very authentic and are an ingenious touch. Well done!

The Kremlin’s Candidate. An exceptionally good read. The story is right on, with writing concise without wasted words. Fast paced and exciting.

Poor customer service. Bravo to the author for selling the movie rights to Red Sparrow, but I pre-ordered The Kremlin Candidate when it was advertised as available for iBooks at the end of November 2017. Having to wait another four months for a book I paid for in March 2017 simply to accommodate the film’s marketing campaign is irritating to say the least. I had hoped to add the book to a reading list for a spring course, but that seems out of the question now.

Not up to the first two. After two books that detail the strength, smarts, and skill of Dominika, for some strange reason the author decides to treat her exactly like the schlubs she has been fighting up til now. In this book, she is the “busty ballerina” instead of the courageous hero. And there are more pathetic double entendres per page than in a middle school locker room. Did Matthew’s wife write the first two books of the trilogy while he wrote the last?

Addictive nonstop read. I’ve just found the next Tom Clancy. The trilogy is non stop and unpredictable. The facts and technology blend well into a fantastic read. More, more, more,!!

Not like the first two in the series. This third and last installment of the series about spies Nate and Dominika did not have the humor, dialog or character development strengths of the preceding two books. The plot devolved into a James Bond level of reality, with too numerous to count sex scenes that became tedious. I read the first two books in a couple of days - I forced myself to finish this one in 4 weeks.

Great trilogy. I loved this trilogy which was so well written and researched. It was a love story intricately woven in a web of espionage, deceit, international politics and so much more. I loved the romance (and respect) between the main characters. All three books were absolute page turners! If you love a terrific Russian spy novel, this one is it!

The Kremlin’s Candidate. Loved the first 2 books in this trilogy, but not this one. Author had a good story line but ruins it with way to much detail and description.

Y. Ktgythggrgggggggggger

Sadist?. Liked the book UNTIL the last few chapters. The author’s penchant for graphic, sadistic details of torture was disgusting, even sickening. I don’t think anyone likes this kind of ending. So many other ways the end could have been handled. Felt to me the author was sick of writing this book and needed to end it quickly. Did not flow with the trilogy and characters.

Kremlins candidate. Didn’t realize that KC was the 3rd of trilogy until we saw Red sparrow on the big screen. Wife got interested in actually reading RS —- I had read it and Palace of Treason a year ago And had to see how all characters evolved in KC! Not disappointed, another great read!

Awesome!. I loved it, I hope he writes another series!

The Kremlin’s Candidate. Spoiler Alert!! Outstanding book, but not as good to me as the first book in the trilogy. I like happy endings, and while the protagonist will keep on providing intelligence for the US, I would have preferred an ending with Nate and Diva in a fairytale ending of one of her dreams with their children playing in the room. Also the third book of the trilogy seemed too good to be true with perfectly timed Navy seals appearing on the Russian coast. Still loved the books and could not put them down!! Great stories!! Great characters!!

An excellent trilogy!. One of the best of it’s type.

Good read. But!!!!!!. The book is a good read the only problem that I have with it is that the author need to improve in detailing when he describes the love making scene. I had a hard time figuring out what he was talking about. Either he wanted to keep the book G-rated or that he knows nothing about having sex .

Kremlin’s Candidate. Fast moving. Kept the reader’s interest, thus, had a hard time putting the book down. Recommend reading the first two novel prior to this book. When will his next book or trilogy become available.
