The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare Book Summary

When girl meets Duke, their marriage breaks all the rules…

Since his return from war, the Duke of Ashbury’s to-do list has been short and anything but sweet: brooding, glowering, menacing London ne’er-do-wells by night. Now there’s a new item on the list. He needs an heir—which means he needs a wife. When Emma Gladstone, a vicar’s daughter turned seamstress, appears in his library wearing a wedding gown, he decides on the spot that she’ll do.

His terms are simple:

- They will be husband and wife by night only.

- No lights, no kissing.

- No questions about his battle scars.

- Last, and most importantly… Once she’s pregnant with his heir, they need never share a bed again.

But Emma is no pushover. She has a few rules of her own:

- They will have dinner together every evening.

- With conversation.

- And unlimited teasing.

- Last, and most importantly… Once she’s seen the man beneath the scars, he can’t stop her from falling in love…

Very good!. THis was such a fun and touching romance. You are guaranteed to laugh and even cry through out the book!

‘The Duchess Deal’ was romance at its best!. ❝You’re mine,❞ he said hoarsely, lifting his head and staring deep into her eyes, willing her to believe. ❝If you leave, I will follow. Do you hear me? I will follow and find you and cart you home.❞ I LOVED THIS BOOK! It had everything: amazing characters, stunning writing and a steamy storyline that had me swooning! The Duke of Ashbury desired a wife to continue his lineage. Yet, he didn’t want a partner or a companion, he simply wanted an incubator. After being horrifically injured in war, he was used to people looking at him in horror. When his previous engagement ended he was left feeling that he “deserved nothing more than scraps and shadows of affection, and even then, only in the dark.” When Emma barged in demanding money for her services, the Duke decided marrying her would be a win for both. He would get an heir, she would no longer want for money. ❝A broodmare. Hm. I’m not certain I mind that comparison. If you’re a broodmare, that would make me the stud.❞ ❝And there,❞ she said, ❝is the injustice of the world in a nutshell.❞ Emma Gladstone had had a difficult time of it the last six years. After being kicked out of her fathers home, she set forth on her own to London. Penniless and without help, she persevered, found a craft and worked as a seamstress. It was hard work, but Emma was good at it. When she wasn’t paid for the work she’d done for a wedding dress she’d made, Emma had no other choice but to ask the Duke for reimbursement. Even if it was humiliating. Emma didn’t expect to get a marriage proposal out of it. Even though it didn’t offer the four things she’d been craving since she was a child; Understanding. Admiration. Affection. Love. she knew the proposal was too good not to accept, he was a Duke, after all, she would be a fool to say no. The Duke pushed Emma at every turn and Emma challenged his every move. She was determined to make him see the beautiful person he was, not the monster he’d been made to believe. ❝It’s not pity or distaste that worries you. You’re not afraid of rejection. You welcome it. But if you’re seen for everything you are—the strengths and the flaws, the beauty and the scars—you might have to believe you’re wanted. Loved. Really, truly, honestly, earnestly, properly.❞ She pressed her forehead to his. ❝And completely.❞ If I could shout my love for this book from the mountain tops I would! The banter was hilariously written, making me cheer this couple on. The strength and fortitude Emma exhibited made me wish she were my friend! ❝That can’t be entirely true. You’re a seamstress, aren’t you? Your fingers are for let.❞ ❝If you don’t know the difference between a woman’s fingers and her womb, I would definitely not share a bed with you.❞ This may only be the second book I’ve read penned by this author, but I am a huge fan! A story about the healing powers of unconditional love, ‘The Duchess Deal’ was romance at its best!

I was charmed by the seamstress. She introduces us to a bunch of spinsters, but I just adored the plucky seamstress. Khan fills the duke in near the end of the various cads who have been through Emma’s life. She’s a vicar’s daughter, but she doesn’t understand how things work. She keeps trying to get Davina somewhere safe with an intact reputation, and it’s very stupid that Davina’s father wants to withhold his permission and ruin his daughter. They refuse to tell Davina’s dad what’s happening.

Charming, funny and touching.. Five full stars, people. I do not do that very often. This is Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast rolled into one entertaining read. Ash is a scarred, insecure man with a heart of gold, but he's surrounded his heart with hardness to protect himself. Emma is equally scarred except emotionally and she's strong for surviving it. I loved Emma's determination to overcome every adversity. There are some truly lol moments of dialogue between the two main characters. There are touching, heartbreaking ones as well. Even the dedication made me chuckle. I truly love this author's sense of humor. Sex scenes are tasteful and sexy all at once. Best Tessa Dare book ever, in my opinion.

Good. It’s a pretty good story I love how Emma helped Ash with his insecurities and how she showed him/taught him what love is

Great read!. I really enjoyed this book! Loved the characters and the storyline!!

The duke is a jerk. A nasty piece of work..the duke is si mean, there isn’t any chance if real transformation…

The Duchess Deal. Good read. The characters were real. Flawed, proud, stubborn, kind and the banter between Ash and his lady was priceless. Supporting characters were wonderful. The Menace, Kahn, Penny,Alex, and of course Breeches the cat.

LOVED LOVED LOVED!. I feel like I just finished watching a full season of an amazing show! Comedy, drama, sex, layers upon layers of plot! Tessa Dare is officially one of my new favorites now and I can’t wait for the next book!

Happy vibes. I thought it was beautifully written and hard to put down once you started.

Charming. Whitt and charming. I love Emma’s whit and her indomitable spirit. Well written and an easy read. Looking forward to more from this author.

Great Read if You Love Romance. I have to be honest, I am generally not a fan of period romances. I love movies from various eras, but for some reason I always gravitate to books about the present. That was until I read the Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare. I read about five books a week and when I saw this book recommended in one of my reader groups, I put aside the 50 unread books I have on my I pad and purchased this one. And I am so glad I did. I liked the book from the very first page and didn’t stop reading until I finished it. I loved the Duke of Ashbury and how he and Emma met. He needed a wife and an heir, and she needed love and companionship so they decide to come together in an arrangement that will benefit them both. They each have issues, he was injured at war which left him badly scared, and she had an incident happen when she was a teen that made her flee from her home. In order for me to not put a book down, I have to admire and respect the heroine, and I thought Emma was awesome. She was kind, smart, bold, educated, patient, wise, and oh so witty. I loved how she stood up to him, wanted a true partnership, and made him see all the good that she saw in him. This was not easy as he was a bit of a bear to live with and their clever banter was a normal part of their dialogue and what I liked reading about best. Ash was so complex but all he wanted was to give and receive love as well. He was hurt and broken from a past relationship, in addition to his war wounds, and Emma helped to heal him. I loved in the end how he did fight for her and finally admitted his true feelings. Other reviewers compared this book to Beauty and the Beast and I do agree with a bit of Batman and Robin thrown in (you will see how he meets his young protégé). Parts did get a bit crazy, but it’s a book based on fiction and I am reading for an escape. I liked all the verbiage used in this book and am glad I read an electronic version so I could easily look up words from Old England. The book took me back in time and it was truly a pleasure to experience their journey and how they became a family.

Fun read😊. I loved this book. I had a lot of fun with it. There were actually moments were I laughed out loud

Scarred Dukes transformation. Well written and a few laughs.

Funny, sweet, & sexy. The characters are so likable but still vulnerable and real. The Duke's dry and sarcastic humor is so well balanced while Emma is a strong but kind making them a likable pair with dynamic interactions right from the start. Well written and very enjoyable read.

AMAZING!!!!. I wholeheartedly loved this book and can’t wait to continue the series! it had all the teasing, passion, and romance that I like so much! Trust me on this one... read this book and you won’t regret it!

Great Read!. If anything, this book had me engrossed due to the clever wit & playful banter between the two main characters. A few occurrences seemed a bit random but not too much to have you confused as to the storyline. Definitely worth reading.

Buy this book !. Loved this book ! Perfect amount of romance , sex and whit !

My favorite Tessa Dare novel. and I’ve read & enjoyed everything the author has written. The dry wit & dialogue are incredibly good, but then throw in numerous odd, funny scenarios such as a Batman/Dark Knight trope… The heroine is strong, sensible & funny, the hero is awful & awfully adorable. I WILL reread this particular book again & again, if only for the “hell demon visitation” chapter & any scene with Khan or The Menace.

The Duchess Deal. I love this book it made me laugh out loud, it made me tear up a few times the hot romance was great absolutely love the characters and the butler he was great I am hoping for a follow up series 😊

The Duchess Deal. I couldn't put the book down! I love the characters and that true love does conquer all

A great romance novel. It has a bit of everything we love in a romance novel. It's well written, well-paced, restrained where needed. Full-on when appropriate. One of the better ones.

Amazing. Another great one. This witty tale of 2 people who so desperately need each other captivates the reader from the beginning. It's a love story with fun, humor, and a cat.

Pleasant Read. I've been on a historical novel kick this year and this was my first Tessa Dare novel, and I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the dialogue isn't very Regency and there is the inaccuracy of the societal rules of the time, but the banter between the main characters was entertaining enough that I let it slide. The pacing was good, and it allowed me to enjoy the novel from beginning to end. So if you're looking for an enjoyable and feel-good novel this is it.

So funny. This romance had a lot of humor. Absolutely loved it.

4.5 Stars!!. Cute book! Poor Ash!! I feel so bad for him! I can understand where he's coming from with his scars-sort of. I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 14 years old and I have severe scars on my arms, chest, stomach & lower back & I hate them!!! Luckily, I'm able to hide mine easily. I really liked this book & how it's not a typical romance! The main characters are pretty much opposite what authors usually make them! He's scarred & cranky. She isn't in the same social class as he is & she was a laborer-working her fingers into calluses! I really liked both characters & I thought they suited each other really well! I recommend reading this book. It's entertaining & well written! I felt so bad for the main characters & the difficulties they have both faced/face. I wanted to give them a big hug! I'd like to know what happens with Emma's Dad-the big jerk! (SPOILER ALERT!!)-I wish someone, an old friend, would've come forward at the ball Ash went to & acted like he was glad to see Ash or Thanked him for being in the war! (His ex-fiancé doesn't count since she didn't do it for Ash but for herself!) I just feel bad that he doesn't have any male friends, besides his butler! Overall-this was a really good book!

The Duchess Deal. I Loved It ! First time reading this author, won’t be the last. Held my interest, touched my heart, laughed out loud, got tears in my eyes. What more can you expect from a book ?

Fantastic Read!. This was my first historical romance read and I love it!

Amazing. I don’t know even where to star… this book was amazing, funny, exciting, makes your heart beat. I will recommend it 100%.
