One Last Risk by Nancy Stopper Book Summary

A guilt-driven firefighter, a widowed mother, neither is ready for love, but love has other plans.

Firefighter Lucas Bennett had the carefree life he’d always wanted until a deadly blaze took the life of his company mate and best friend. Blaming himself was easy but pulling himself from the tailspin of guilt proved to be much harder. The fog of sadness and guilt pushed him down a dangerous path until he nearly died fighting the beast. Forced to stop and reevaluate his life, he decided to make a change before it was too late.

A fire took almost everything from Sarah Robinson—her husband and her home—leaving her to raise their precious daughter alone. Everywhere she looked held memories of her husband, pouring salt on her ever-present wound. Unable to live any longer around the memories of her husband, she and her daughter moved to Oak Grove, far away from the grief of the past. All Sarah needed was the chance to start a new life for her and her daughter. <br>

A car accident on a dark, rainy night put Lucas and Sarah on a collision course neither of them expected… with questions they’re not ready to answer.

Can a single mother open her broken heart for a second chance at love? Will a broken firefighter risk his heart for what might be his only chance at forever? Are each of them willing to take one last risk to be together? His risk. Her reward. Together, they’ll mend each other's broken hearts.

If you like small-town romance where the heroes are sexy and the women are strong, unlock One Last Risk to start your visit to Oak Grove, Pennsylvania and fall in love with Lucas and Sarah!

One Last Chance - Oh My!. Lucas and Sarah have a chance meeting and there is instant attraction. In their next encounter, EMT Lucas is helping to extract her from her badly wrecked car. Lucas has no desire for a permanent relationship that would put a woman in the same grieving position as his best friends wife, but there is just something about Sarah. As a firefighter/EMT, Lucas is struggling with the death of his best friend in a fire eighteen months earlier. He blames himself for the loss, has taken too many risks and is pulled off the engine to seek counseling and work as a paramedic for 60 days. Sarah has moved to Oak Grove for a new start with her four year old daughter after losing the love of her life in a house fire two years earlier. She is not ready to move on but, oh Lucas! The missing pieces of Lucas's background are tossed out in anger after a horrible fire his first day back on the engine. Neither knows if they can recover. One Last Chance is the first full length novel in the Oak Grove series. I was given an ARC copy of this book by the author for an honest review. I loved this story and can't wait for the stories of the other Bennett siblings.

A sweet emotional read.... How is it that firefighters grab most everyone's heart. Maybe because they're exciting adrenalin junkies who want to save and protect everyone, like Lucas. But Lucas has baggage too. Sarah has her own baggage. Baggage she mostly doesn't deal with in favor of concentrating on raising her daughter. Their meet cute may have failed the first time, but their connection was plain to both of them. This story has so many "feels" you are invested in their lives from the beginning. Plus the flow is so easy to read, you can't put it down.

Great series starter...Love is worth the risk. Lucas and Sarah are emotionally raw from the loss of loved ones. Sarah finds comfort in her memories and her precious daughter. These two meet by chance and are drawn to one another immediately, Sarah is blubbering mess and he's very interested, lol. As they ease into a relationship, they have the chemistry, their path is very interesting and a little curvy but Lucas tenacity is what keeps this cookie from crumbling. Sarah has got to decide for herself if this love is worth the risk or will she continue to run and hide from the gift of life. PS. This is not a cliffhanger but I would really like to know what is going on with Lucas sister Rachel, it seems serious.

Nice and tragic. A young mother loses her husband to a fire and ended up falling in love with a firefighter. The characters were fantastic and the story was emotional and interesting.

Wow, Amazing!. Loved every moment of this book!

Small Town Romance. Small town romance set in Oak Grove. Sarah, young widow with small daughter wants to start her life over after loosing her husband in a fire. Shortly after moving to Oak Grove she is involved in a car accident when Lucas, EMT/Firefighter rescues her. Lucas has his own demons after loosing his best friend in a house fire. A budding relationship develops but Lucas is keeping one secret from Sarah, will it make it or break it for them. Great characters that are both fighting their own demons but come to terms with their pasts. I fell in love with both Sarah and Lucas, both very strong. Lucas willing to give up what he has to win over Sarah. Sarah's daughter, Lily is so cute too. I highly recommend this story, looking forward to my next visit to Oak Grove.

Risking it all!. How do you begin a review on a book that has you laughing, crying, cheering, wondering, and droves of other emotions? I had the privilege of getting a chance to read an advance copy of “One Last Risk” from Ms. Stopper - thank you. Sarah has lost her husband in a fire. She moved with their daughter Lily to start anew. Lucas lost his best friend in a fire and suffers from survivor’s guilt and blames himself. In a chance meeting in a coffee shop, sparks fly immediately. Lucas is holding something back from Sarah and their relationship escalates before he has a chance to tell her. Is the truth going to get Lucas set free or will Sarah deal with the truth? Loved Lucas’ and Sarah’s story! There were many other characters introduced that will make for interesting stories. Nice, fast-paced read that will leave you ending with a sigh looking for the next book in the series.

Typical. Another stone on the beach. Nothing special

Take A Risk on Love. I loved One Last Risk by Marilyn Stopper, the first book in her new Oak Grove series. In this introductory story we meet two people affected by death of loved ones in a fire. Lucas Bennett lost his best friend and fire fighter partner when he was killed while clearing a house on fire. Lucas feels guilty and at fault for this loss. Sarah Robinson lost everything except her young daughter when a fire burned down her house and killing her husband. Sarah decides she needs a fresh start by moving to small town Oak Grove. Sarah being injured in a car accident sets up the beginning of a friendship with EMT Lucas. Ms. Stopper wrote a wonderful story about putting hearts on the line and taking chances. Through this story she showed how these two could come to terms with their grief and find a way to have a happy ever after. I really enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down, reading it in one day. I highly recommend this book to other readers. I am looking forward to the next entry in the Oak Grove series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Boring. Kept thinking the story would change. It could have taken up half the pages for how many times the scenario was repeated. I started skimming the pages.

3.5 out of 5. A broken mother to. 4-year old daughter who has lost her husband to a house fire and wants to relocate and start living again. A broken fire fighter who has lost his best friend to a blaze not able to move past it. Unfortunately, when they meet he is acting as a paramedic and he doesn’t tell her that he is a fire fighter. It all ends in a HEA but past the middle of the book it does become repetitious, belabouring her feelings of guilt for falling in love again and him not wanting to put a woman through the pain of possibly losing another husband to a blaze, which his job puts him at risk of doing. Overall it is well written and even brings out a few tears, but I started skipping pages out of irritation for the redundancy. Sweet nevertheless and you are pulling for them both to the end.

One Last Risk. Dear N. Stopper; I loved your story and the characters. I couldn’t put it down. Thank you. Looking forward to the next in the series. Catherine M.
