The Late Show by Micheal Connelly. LOVE THIS BOOK! Love the story of female detective battling her way in a man’s world. Plus her love of the ocean & her dog protecting her & running back & forth on beach barking to help her get back in. I worked late show but in nursing which can b weird too. Plus surfed w) buddies who had same kinda dog ! I’ve read all Connelly’s books plus watched show on Netflix. I wish there were 2 or 3 books a year but he’s not Patterson. I think Connelly’s books are much more interesting than Patterson (yawn) !

Love it.. A true you can’t put down. Connelly creates an intriguing character in Renee Ballard. It starts quick and then the story just rolls over everything.

Michael Connelly fan and book is why!. Great book. Michael gives you enough information that I want to know what happens next. He’s good at not giving the whole story away. You’re never quite sure how the story is going to unfold and he has several threads running at the same time. Sometimes the story jumps a little bit and I miss the filler, but the story is so good that it’s OK.

Enough of the political corectness. Always was a fan of this author, I wish this new character series was not saturated with obnoxious political correctness.

The Late Show. Outstanding!

Disappointing. I am a big fan of Michael Connolly, but I was very disappointed in this book. Renee Ballard is just a female Harry Bosch with a surfing habit. Spoiler alert: do we really need to have the female protagonist drugged, kidnapped and sexually assaulted by the crazed sadist and tied up naked? This is a well worn plot device that I expect lesser authors to use. I won't be reading other books in this series.

I kept guessing who the perpetrator was.. Ballard is an admirable character.

The Late Show. I've read almost all of Michael Connelly's books and have enjoyed them. This is an exception. Not worth the $15. I thought it was tedious. I didn't like Renee Ballard. She wasn't a likable or believable character. Too foul mouthed for my taste. Guess I am a sexist. Don't like that much bad language from a female. Don't think I'll be buying another Renee Ballard book.

Don't walk away Renee. Nobody does police procedural better than Michael Connelly. His new lead character is interesting and a super sleuth. Plotting is always a strength in his work and this one a challenge. He only knows how to write "page turners". Read it...

No surfer dudess!. Memo to Mike Connelly: For her next novel, please get Renee Ballard an apartment; her living in a tent on the beach, surfing by day while she works "The Late Show" is just too-far out!

The late show. Didn’t even finish. Have read all of Connelly’s work and this is the only disappointment. Way too much thinking not enough doing or dialogue.

Thin. Read the first two chapters and said to myself this this and this will happen. Sure enough, it did. To easy to predict.

A chick book!. There is nobody that is a bigger Michael Connelly fan than I am. Love to read his stories and visit LA with him. Very disappointed in this book though. Why? It's a chick book! Dealing with the emotions of Detective Ballard was what this book was about. I had to check the author to make sure it wasn't written by a feminist. And, before you rant on me, I have nothing against feminist, it's just that I don't want to read a book that deal with all those hormones and stupid choices made the the protagonist. The actual story is secondary to Ballard's "feelings". This may be a reason for you to buy this book. This may be a reason for you not to buy this book. As for me, I wish I knew what I'm telling you before I dropped $15 to but this book. Sorry Michael.

Excellent title. Fast moving story, Michael Connelly is an excellent story teller. His experience with the police department allows you to visualize from the inside how crimes are solved. Another well written mystery thriller.

WOW. Just finished the book and this is the best Connelly book since the early Bosch books came out! Starts a bit slow, but picks up quickly and becomes impossible to put down.

Loved this new character. I have read all the Bosch books and thoroughly enjoy all these books. I saw this book with Detective Ballard and took a chance. As always, the writing, plot, and characters were perfect. I hope that there will be more books forthcoming with Detective Ballard.

The Late Show. I am a fan of Connelly, and especially Harry Bosch. Now I have another favorite character to follow-Renee Ballard! What a great read. About a 1/4 into the book, I literally couldn't put it down!!! Can't wait for more!

The Late Show. I have read them all. I always worry a bit when a new character is introduced . However it did not take me long to fall for her. Here is a detective who has significant experience, not unlike a Harry. She knows how to round the corners on police procedure, but she is honest. Unlike many detectives, she has some fairly healthy ways to handle stress, and there seems to be enough depth in her back story to create more stories. I saw some things coming, but was surprised by the ending. This was a very satisfying read. Welcome aboard to Renée Ballard.

Meh...... I buy Michael Connolly books almost blindly since I discovered the Harry Bosch series. Other characters, some spinoffs of Bosch have also been pretty good. This book for me was subpar. I thought the main character was dull and non-relatable. The main culprit on the story line in my view "came out of left field". Not sure if Connolly is expecting to make a series out of Ballard, but I won't be buying after buying this one...

Excellent. I thought Two Kinds Of Truth was one of his best yet. Then I read this one. The young new tough as nails female detective Ballard is the new Bosch, I suppose. She's great, the story was great. Maybe the next Ballard book will have her alongside Bosch. Now that would be something.
