The Wren by Kristy McCaffrey Book Summary

Captured by Comanche as a child, Molly Hart was assumed dead. Ten years later, Texas Ranger Matt Ryan finds a woman with the same blue eyes.

“A rousing, spicy story of long lost love in the gritty Old West. The Wren will make your pulse flutter and your heart sing.” —Ann Charles, USA Today Bestselling Author of the Award-winning Deadwood Mystery Series

Ten years have passed since Molly Hart’s ranch was attacked, her folks murdered, and she was abducted. Now, at nineteen, she’s finally returning home to North Texas after spending the remainder of her childhood with a tribe of Kwahadi Comanche. What she finds is a deserted home coated with dust and the passage of time, the chilling discovery of her own gravesite, and the presence of a man she thought never to see again.

Matt Ryan is pushed by a restless wind to the broken-down remains of the Hart ranch. Recently recovered from an imprisonment that nearly ended his life, the drive for truth and fairness has all but abandoned him. For ten years he faithfully served the U.S. Army and the Texas Rangers, seeking justice for the brutal murder of a little girl, only to find closure and healing beyond his grasp. Returning to the place where it all began, he’s stunned to encounter a woman with the same blue eyes as the child he can’t put out of his mind.

A sensuous historical western romance set in 1877 Texas.

Great book.. Loved this book. Had several turns and changes with the characters. Enjoyed the banter between the guys that grew up close to each other. Looking forward to the books that are following this one.

Riveting. Oh my gosh! This is one of THE best books (series) I’ve read in a long time. I absolutely couldn’t put it down. The characters were flawless and realistic. The story was well told and kept me wanting more. It was funny, sexy, sad and exciting and threw me into every emotion including anger!! It could be a mini series or a movie and I’d still want more, more, more!!!!! Well done! GSW

The Wren. You know a book is good when you can't put it down. I didn't want this book to end so I am glad it is part of a series

The Wren. The characters become your friends!

Great Read. This was really a great read for me. I will surly be purchasing more of this author’s work. Thank you.

Really nice story. It was kinda hard to get into this book at first. It felt like the author had a great idea and storyline path, but it was difficult to follow for a little while. After a little rough start though I really got into it. I enjoyed the characters and couldn’t stop reading until I finished the whole book. Very sweet tale and engaging story. I do hope that poor Lizzie finds her happy ending too at some point.

The Wren. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope to read more but can't afford to pay the $3.99. Do they ever go on sale?

Wren is a winner. Wren is a story following a young lady who was abducted as a child. Stolen from her abductors by Indians and eventually sold back into the white world where they had bought her dead; acceptance of her past was not accepted by all. Through this entire ordeal, all she is s looking for are answers.

The wren. Nice wholesome fare. Enjoyed reading the feel good story

A Great Read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were real and the historical perspective was interesting.

Heart warming. A sweet western adventure

The Wren. Loved this book. The hardships of those that lived in this time is amazing. Of course it’s romanized for the book and I’m sure it wouldn’t have ended with such a HEA in reality but makes for a good story. I found it to be one of the best old west romances I’ve ever read. It doesn’t have steamy love scenes but it didn’t need them. The book kept my attention from beginning to end.

5 stars. 5 stars

Great!. I loved it!!!

Joe’s Thoughts. This could easily be a true story about love and survival. It is a wonderful story that keeps your attention, with characters that appear totally genuine. I want to continue reading more about more from this author.

Enjoyed it!. I loved this book. It had several surprises and I like that in a book. Very good!

A new guilty pleasure. Trigger warnings: attempted rape, sexual assault, pedophilia This book has a lot of flaws, but it’s definitely one of my new guilty pleasures. The author has a way of writing that is both beautiful and keeps you on your toes throughout the whole story. The cover for this book is a little misleading. I was worried that this book was going to be an erotica, but it’s actually more of a mystery or action book mixed with romance. It makes for a good combination that works out really well. However, some of the romance parts did make me really uncomfortable. Some of the body descriptions at first were so sexual that they made me cringe and the sex scene was so graphic that I could barely read that chapter. The major issue I had with this book was the depiction of the Native Americans. They were referred to as “Indians” in the book and maybe that was just to reflect the character’s thoughts at the time, but saying Indians instead of Native Americans is one of my biggest pet peeves. The trope of Native Americans capturing white people is also so overdone.

Masterfully woven page turner. What a delightful find! The characters are gritty and relatable, the plot thick and the writing suberb! Turn the first page and you are sucked in. I am so excited to have found Kristy Mccaffery's work. Looking forward to reading the whole series!

The Wren. Couldn’t get interested.

So Refreshing. This was a good read! It took me a little bit to get into it, but once I did I was happily consumed. The characters are refreshing and the writer catches you by surprise. There is just enough romance to keep you happy but leaves you wanting more. I snuggled into a blanket, grabbed my tea, and happily read to the end. Now I’m hooked! Excited to read the next in this series.

Wren. A wonderful tale of how Texas was settled. The trials, the hard work, the criminals, good men and bad men both settlers and Indians, and even a couple of Texas Rangers thrown in for good measure. The women who were strong enough to survive and thrive in a often hostile, but beautiful setting. The Texas, I love, as both part Irish and part Apache Indian I appreciated the authors viewpoint. My great-grandmother was gifted to an Irish man as his wife. Thank you for an amazing book.

Just Beautiful!. This wonderful story and amazing characters will keep you on your toes and entrance you from the very beginning! Don’t pass on this treasure of a book!

The Wren. Heartwarming tale. The story had me spellbound from start to the ending. I couldn't wait to find who was actually behind the killing of Hart and his wife.

The Wren. Good story line. Great characters. Hard book to put down. Throughly enjoyed every minute of reading “The Wren”.

The Wren. The amount of hardship in this book is how I imagine life really was at this time in history. Lots of characters, some enchanting & others the author effectively made me dislike.

The Wren. This book is outstanding with its tale of tragedy and victory over that tragedy. The characters are great! The tale of love for Molly and Matt and their battle to be together warms the heart.

The Wren. One of the best books I’ve read in a long while ! I couldn’t put it down !!! It’s a page turner full of surprises and plot twists !!! I love it !

Amazing, fun & with Grit!. I could hardly put this down.. alive with flavor of the old west and true to life-like characters! I feel like I know them & look forward to reading more of their families’ stories! Thank you for bringing them all to us🩷🥳🩷

Great western romance. A fantastic read! I loved the two main characters, Molly in particular.

Not relatable. I have a hard time believing two girls cross wilderness by themselves. I finished book and really did not like the trait of a particular character. Warped unpleasant story line. I applaud anyone who writes this wasn’t my flavor.

Love this story.. I read many books but this one that's one of the few that touches my heart. I am looking forward to the sequel. MM

The Wren. Loved the book. Sorry it ended. I’d recommend it to anyone that loves to read a great book!

The Wren. Wow! Great story, a real page-turner! Loved it!

The Wren. Heartfelt sincere emotions, true love among many. Unexpected twists and turns. An HEA and you will have to read all. I will. A rough tough man and woman bound from their youth to be together. Extraordinary supporting characters. Loved it, and that should mean something, I've read hundreds of books. It's what I do.

The Wren. This is a breath of fresh air. A book that holds your interest. The story has all the things I look for, excitement, suspense, captivating and a true love story. I recommend this book to all that enjoy a good read. 👍

The Wren. This is a five star novel for me. I absolutely loved everything about this story. The people, their lives and the adventures they had to endure. I would recommend this reading and all of the additional ones also. Sonja Stover Bracey

The Wren. Romance and mistery my kind of book.

Couldn’t put it down. A great romance, really enjoyed this book and will be reading the others in the series.

📖. A very enjoyable read

The Wren. Loved it and will certainly be continuing into the next book of the series, great read

Wonderful Read. This is the first of this author's books I have and I enjoyed it so very much I know it won't be the last. I am looking forward to the next in series to see how the other characters from The Wren meet up and find love. The story was very well crafted and believable. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves American history stories.

A great read. Suspenseful and full of intrigue, however if you plan to read the whole series don’t read the bonus at the back of book - total spoiler!!

The Wren. How beautifully woven together the people are in this story. The last few chapters brought me to tears, and the extra scene tied everyone together. Then I read the intros to the other books in the series and saw how they all relate. While I’m poor and seldom buy, I will gradually have to buy all these. Geoff C. Australia

An insight. Quite a nice historical romantic western read. This one is about Matt and Molly. The author has set the story to follow on about other couples, but this one is definitely a HEA. Life in the old west USA must have been difficult, and you get the sense of time and space in the era depicted. Enjoyable read, well done.

The Wren. I only recently started reading Western Romances… I liked westerns, but didn’t have much use for romances. I soon learned that today’s lady writers are often exceptionally good writers, and Kristy McCaffrey is among the best of these! I look forward to reading the other books of this ‘Wings of the West’ series. I haven’t said much about the story itself, but it was very well written, with exceptional detail of that part of Texas. It reminds me of the time I spent in the Panhandle, on the border of New Mexico, near Clovis. I loved the panhandle area, and roamed it when I was there. I would be happy to return, anytime.

The Wren. Well written and with some unexpected plot turns. I enjoyed reading this story and look forward to finding the successive books in this series

Wings of the West. A great series of books. I really truly enjoyed them. I’m waiting to get more. What a great author.

Good read. Book had some interesting plot twists. I liked the strong female character in this love story.

The Wren. Spellbinding. I couldn't put it down. I laughed and I cried. Beautifully written. Kristy's words painted pictures in my mind

The Wren. Good story. Love that there was a good plot with lots of twists

The Wren. Loved it, looking forward to reading next in series

Wow. Such an amazing book! I love her style of writing, felt like I was right there, smelling, tasting, feeling it all. I can’t wait to buy book two!
