Trust by Kylie Scott Book Summary

Being young is all about the experiences: the first time you skip school, the first time you fall in love…the first time someone holds a gun to your head.

After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen year old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.

While Edie’s beginning to run wild, however, John’s just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he’s going straight—getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.

An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first—losing her virginity—their friendship gets complicated.

Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose—each other.

“Heart-pounding, realistic and wonderfully unique, Kylie Scott's Trust held me captive, fascinated, and riveted to the page from start to finish. A MUST, simply incredible, read!” –Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author of Tycoon

WOW. WOW! This one was a surprise for me! I've read almost all of Kylie's books and have loved them all. She has a style all her own and it really works. But with Trust she veered away from her tried and true formula and took a risk into mature YA and it was a complete success for me. Trust gave me an intense book hangover, I simply could not put it down. rust is a friends to lovers romance about to troubled teens whose shared tragic encounter took them from strangers to friends. Edie and John are so different and while John started the book on the wrong side of the law and Edie is a good girl, but after they both have this horrible event happen to them they basically switch. Edie walks the line of making good/bad choices and John works on turning his life around. This story was hard in the best ways possible. I was never quite sure how it would all work out. These tow were not instantly in love, it was a struggle to move past their co-dependent odd friendship to something more. They didn't always make the easy or right choices but something about the story and no matter how hard it got that each hardship seemed needed and only made their eventual pairing all that more rewarding. I'm not sure what I was expecting with Trust but I can tell you that she blew my expectations out of the water. I went through the gamut of emotions and I personally hopes she takes another risk like this again. ~miranda

Unique and grippng coming of age stand-alone. 5 stars for - Trust - a coming of age stand-alone by Kylie Scott that is both unique and gripping. I read this book cover to cover in one sitting and it left me wanting more. This book was not at all what I expected it to be and was so pleasantly surprised with how much I loved it! The only thing that could have made this story better was to know we would get more in the form of a series about the other enigmatic characters from the book. Edie Millen is a self-proclaimed "fat chick" that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when a armed robbery occurred that severely injured her and took the lives of two other people. Edie knows that if it wasn't for a couple of boys in the gas station subduing the robber she would also have been one of his victims. She will be forever grateful to the boy that saved her life regardless of his reputation. John Cole was at the Stop Drop when a guy his big brother knows decided to rob the place.  A cute, but terrified blonde was bleeding on the floor and he had to help her before the robber really hurt her. John did what he had to do to save Edie's life, but never realized the consequences of his actions. The last person he ever expected to see again was the blonde from the robbery but imagine his shock as he walks into his history class on his first day of senior year. This story was a roller coaster of emotions with tons of angst and real life drama that you can just imagine happening. Their relationship was real and raw, but also sweet too. Absolutely loved this story and hope the author considers making it a series in the future :)

Just loved this book!. I just loved the story of John and Edie. Both characters were real in their own way. Edie is a plump/overweight high school girl who goes through something traumatic with John the local high school dealer. The event makes both of them take stock of their lives and makes some significant changes. When they meet, they have a connection because they feel they can really talk to one another because of what they went through. Edie was a wonderful character and even though she had body image issues like ALL high school girls, it didn't stop her from doing what she wanted. She becomes a strong girl who is comfortable in her own skin. John is the typical reticent high school boy but the way he interacts, protects and eventually falls for Edie is beautiful. He also learns to not accept what people expect of him......he works to go beyond what he's known and reach for something that's good for him. I really loved the best friends of both characters and maybe they can get a book too?

Terrific Coming of Age Story!. I love this author and have read quite a few of her books, so I was looking forward to this one and I have to say I certainly wasn’t disappointed! I won’t go into all that goes on in this book, because there is a lot, let me tell you! I will tell you how the book held my attention and had me sitting on the edge of my seat on more than one occasion! I felt a sadness for all the torment that Edie went through from the bullies and I was overjoyed when she stood her ground against them, even though she landed in detention. This is a very empowering tale that really makes you root for the characters. Edie was the good girl and John had been a drug dealer and didn’t do well in school prior to the robbery. They both had different reactions to their life changing event. Edie wanted to live life to fullest and experience things she hadn’t before and John was trying to get his life back on track again. They both found balance in their friendship. The characters are colorful and flawed and just perfect. They were wonderful together and supported each other. The secondary characters of Hang and Anders were fabulous and made me laugh out loud a lot. This is a great coming of age story with a lot of feels to it and I enjoyed reading every minute of it.

4.5 stars!. Whoa! Kylie Scott definitely upped the ante with this one. It's very different than most of her previous books. It's YA, but very mature YA. It's a romance, but also a story of healing and growth. We meet Edie and John under extreme circumstances. We are pretty much thrown into a hostage situation. I was drawn right in, on the edge of my seat. They then become tied together because of this shared traumatic experience. "He popped the cap on another Corona, putting it into my hand, closing my fingers tight around the cold, wet bottle. The way he touched me might have been the only thing that didn’t hurt." Most of the suspense dies down after the initial incident, slowing a bit, but I was still very intrigued with the story. The characters were so real and relatable and seeing them try to find their place back in the "normal teen world" kept me glued to the pages. I loved seeing them question and develop and grow together. "“You’re a good girl?” “No,” I said, pondering my answer. “Not anymore. I think I might’ve changed religion recently.” Not going to lie. Edie got on my nerves. A lot. But it was so true to a teen that I can't even be mad about it. She is one of the most realistic teenage characters I've met. She is insecure and makes mistakes and does stupid things. And then learns from them. All on top of dealing with the aftermath of the robbery. And John...man, John is a new favorite. I really loved the way he looked at life. And the effort he was making. He was mature and intelligent and romantic and I believed it. There aren't a lot of believable teen heroes out there. Most books out there have eighteen year olds acting like they are thirty. Not here. Not even a little. So, overall this is a winner. It's a captivating read. 4.5 stars. *arc received through netgalley for honest feedback

Amazing. Probably one of the best books I have ever read. Re read it 4 times

Trust is full of raw emotion and a sense of hope. . Trust is full of raw emotion and a sense of hope.  Edie goes through a shocking, tragic event. One that she’ll never forget. She got out alive and now wonders, what's the point? she starts doing things out of character but she becomes braver in the process. There’s so much growth with the characters. I really loved Edie, she was funny but also very strong. Even when she felt that she couldn’t go on, she pushed through.  This is the first book I’ve read of Scott's. My other co-creator loves her books and now I see why (she has good taste). I was really able to involve myself with the characters. Feel those heart-stopping moments, those moments filled with pure love. I see why Edie gravitated to John. They are able to find solace with each other.  There really able to understand each other, even though they come from different worlds.  This is listed as a Young Adult Novel. But I think it’s more for the Mature Young Adult. There’s is sex and violence. But without those, there would be a whole chunk of the story missing. So Scott needed those moments. I really loved this story. I’m hoping, that maybe Scott with make a story about Anders and Hang? please! lol. I loved them too.  Overall, I give this Five Boundless Stars. This really is a great YA novel! I think I shall put in my top 10 for 2017.

Loved it. Have read it more than once, I enjoyed it so much.

Brilliant!. With a setting that's as old as time, you'd think this story would be cliche. It just goes to show how powerful Kylie Scott's words are that turned this story into a master piece. I was so drawn in by this story and the characters that I lost complete track of time and swallowed this book whole. This story is in a high school setting. It's the classic bad boy hottie vs unpopular, overweight girl. She's crushing and he's confused. It should have felt overdone, instead it felt fresh and new. The story was light and dark. Somber and funny. It gave me a deep sense of satisfaction at the end that I don't experience often. I think it's safe to say I loved it and that Kylie Scott has earned a new fan. Hooked from the first page. A full on coming of age drama following a group of nearly 18 year old high school students as they try to navigate life, love, trust, friendship and all the pressures that go with being in high school. Edie is a grade A student who goes to a private all girls school with her best friend for life, she's a little bit on the chubby side and is bullied by the popular 'it' girl, it's been happening for a long time, she just accepts it. Then one fateful night, being a survivor during a convenience store robbery gone drastically wrong, her whole perspective on life changes. Her best friend sells her out and she decides that no one will push her around any more. Standing up for herself she changes schools and becomes fast friends with the one person who knows how it feels to have a brush with death and she makes some life changing decisions. He's the only person she trusts (for now). Following that fateful night, John Cole decides he's through with dealing drugs and he's going to change his future for the better. Between them John and Edie battle the forces against them, together they are stronger, even though so many people don't make it easy for them. Beautifully written with strong characters and all the angst that goes with being a teenager, some fun stories with their friends and family on the side and the chemistry between John and Edie is just perfect. Edie's little idiosyncrasies were so funny. I was hooked, literally from the beginning. The drama starts on the first page and it's pretty much full on for the entire book, I only stopped to eat and drink, oh, and to have the occasional obligatory conversation with the family. Another winner from Kylie Scott. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Trust. Really brilliant book I couldn't put it down. Like stage dive series this would make a fantastic film. Love it KYLIE 👍🏻

...anet.... Will admit that I was a little hesitant to buy this book due to it being for young adults (and I am way past that age!!) But of course couldn't resist another book by this fabulous author! Once again Kylie delivered a great story. Thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Five Star Read. Highly recommended. Thank you. Absolutely loved this book

Trust. Awesome story as always from Kylie Scott, loved it. I love the way she makes her characters so relatable, give it a read you won't be disappointed 😃

Five trusting stars - must read YA. I loved this book. Loved loved loved. I loved Edie in all her quiet chubby glory and watching her grow into herself - her wittiness, her confidence and her acceptance of herself. I loved John and the fact he had a regular name (authors need to lay off the Jax and Ryder) and the way he clearly saw edie. And I loved that despite being so different you can end up trusting someone regardless of their history. Kylie Scott nailed it with this book. Absolutely fantastic. 5 stars.

Want more. Is there a second book? Can’t be the end of the story!!

Oh. My. Goodness. I think this is my all time favourite Kylie Scott book. I don’t even know how to put into words how I feel about it. I relate so much to how Edie thinks and acts. She is brace and strong but doesn’t believe she is. And John, my goodness, he is definitely an amazing example of what to look for in a future boyfriend... well some parts at least ahah 😅 This will be a story that I shall reread for years to come. What a beautiful book! So sad I’ve finished already ahaha
