The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian Book Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A powerful thriller about the ways an entire life can change in one night: A flight attendant wakes up in the wrong hotel, in the wrong bed, with a dead man—and no idea what happened. • Don't miss the acclaimed HBO Max series!

Cassandra Bowden is no stranger to hungover mornings. She's a binge drinker, her job with the airline making it easy to find adventure, and the occasional blackouts seem to be inevitable. She lives with them, and the accompanying self-loathing. When she awakes in a Dubai hotel room, she tries to piece the previous night back together, counting the minutes until she has to catch her crew shuttle to the airport. She quietly slides out of bed, careful not to aggravate her already pounding head, and looks at the man she spent the night with. She sees his dark hair. His utter stillness. And blood, a slick, still wet pool on the crisp white sheets.

Afraid to call the police—she's a single woman alone in a hotel room far from home—Cassie begins to lie. She lies as she joins the other flight attendants and pilots in the van. She lies on the way to Paris as she works the first class cabin. She lies to the FBI agents in New York who meet her at the gate. Soon it's too late to come clean-or face the truth about what really happened back in Dubai. Could she have killed him? If not, who did?

Set amid the captivating world of those whose lives unfold at forty thousand feet, The Flight Attendant unveils a spellbinding story of memory, of the giddy pleasures of alcohol and the devastating consequences of addiction, and of murder far from home.

Terrible. I barely slogged through this book. The ending was it’s only redeeming factor.

So slow. I don’t know what I was expecting but this was really really slow reading. I’m giving it two stars because I felt like I had to finish it but it took me forever. I do not recommend.

The flight attendant. Wow!! What a fabulous Twistee thriller… The ending was unbelievable, never saw that one coming. One of the best thrillers I’ve ever read… A must read for sure

Don’t waste your money. This book was long boring and repetitive Cassie the main character is troubled

Wow. A wonderful read, twists, turns, intriguing. A delightful read.

Betraying the reader. The sad thing about this book is that a talented writer so disregarded his audience that rather than resolve the narrative established in the reading he consciously butchered the ending. That act is so flagrant a betrayal of story I will never read another novel by this author. Reader beware...you will have wasted your time when you reach the end.

Exciting. Lots of suspense but hard not to groan at all the bad choices the main character made.

The Flight Attendant. Very suspenseful. Slow in some places but all of the pieces came together at the very end. You definitely have to finish the book!

Another lazy book about a drunk woman. I don’t believe for a minute, that this author even likes women!

Great beach read!. Despite the bad reviews, I enjoyed this book!

Great book terrible ending. The end of this story is so lame that I am sorry I read it. It is well written and intriguing, but clearly the author wrote himself into a corner, so he simply fabricated an ending that is vague, silly and unsatisfying. I do not recommend this book.

Good book. Slow start with a lot of unnecessary dialogue. But kept my interest to read to the end with a big let down ending

Really great. This is a real sit up late and read book. Different to the very end. Be sure to read the epilogue.

Horrible. Possibly the worst book I’ve ever read. I cannot possibly even force myself to read the last 50 pages. It’s puzzling to me how a publisher even agreed to put this in print it’s so boring and SLOW. Ok, we get that the main character likes to drink...how many times do you have to describe it...and absolutely no twists or turns. Within the first few pages you learn what happened - ok, unless I had to bear through all of this for the last few pages which I simply cannot get through.

Kept me on my toes. Great plot with great writing to picture the scenes along the way. There’s twists and turns that mak you wanting more. Highly recommend.

disappointing. Wish I had read the reviews before wasting my time with this book. I can’t even bring myself to finish it. It seemed exciting but is honestly so so so slow and 90% of it just talks about how much the main character likes to drink. She is also so dumb, I want to strangle her. The Russian side plot is also kind of confusing and seems unnecessary, but I didn’t actually finish it so who knows? All I can say is do yourself a favor and don’t waste your time.

This book was so boring. Where was the edge of my seat thriller? I dreaded reading this and had to force myself through it. Actually I haven’t even finished it. You’d think at page 477 it would get better. It hasn’t. This book is slower then molasses. Pass on it

First read. This was my first read by the author. The book me turning the page. Coming back for more.

Great read!. 👍

The Flight Attendant. I really enjoyed this book. Great plot and ongoing suspense. I loved the ending.

A great read. I know I’ve enjoyed a book when I am sad that I have finished it. This was one of those books. Well written and an interesting plot. Worth reading.

Suspenseful and unexpected. Some great twists that I definitely didn’t see coming. A great read

Not so cheap flights. Author Award winning American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter. 20 novels to his credit, of which this is the most recent. HBO is making it into a TV series produced by, and starring, Kaley Cuoco, who needs a new gig now Big Bang Theory is finally finished. Plot Cassie is a late thirties flight attendant with a fondness for alcohol and one night stands. She wakes up in a Dubai hotel bedroom next to the dude she was partying with last night, who is now dead. His throat has been cut, there’s blood everywhere, including on our gal, and a broken vodka bottle on the floor by the bed. Cass is prone to blackouts and fears she might have offed the dude, although she’s sure she would never do something like that because the only person who ever gets hurt when she’s drunk and out of control is her. Rather than report it to the police in an Arab country, she high tails it out of Dodge. Turns out the vic wasn’t what he seemed, apart from hammered, and the real perp is…cue twists, turns, her sister, other bad dudes, a nice dude, a female lawyer with an Armenian name (there’s always at least one in a Bohjalan novel), blah, blah, blah. Characters Fit for purpose, I suppose. Prose Professional, easy to read Bottom line Mr B borrows from The Girl on The Train, Red Sparrow, and at least one other contemporary novel that I can’t remember now. The start is great, the rest no so much, and the less said about the epilogue the better.
