The Wild Child by Mary Jo Putney Book Summary

A Mad Heiress and a False Suitor

The younger son of an earl, Dominic Renbourne is offered an irresistible bribe by his arrogant, identical twin brother, Kyle, who is heir to the earldom.  All he must so is take Kyle's place at Warfield Manor, where he is to politely court Lady Meriel Grahame, the orphaned and vastly wealthy heiress Kyle is pledged to marry. The deception need only take a few weeks and no one will be the wiser because the fey Lady Meriel lives in a world of her own.  The last thing Dominic expects when he arrives is to be entranced by a silent sylph whose ethereal beauty is as stunning as her passionate love for Warfield's flowers and fields and creatures.

Until now, Meriel has kept her distance from normal society, spending her days at one with nature and safe from the nightmare that nearly destroyed her as a child.  She is content to live alone, until the handsome intruder begins to inspire dreams of the world beyond her sanctuary.  He understands her as no one else ever has--and because she lives outside society's rules, she sees no need to restrain her desire for the man who is surely her destined mate.

Though Dominic's sense of duty helps him control his longing for his brother's future bride, Meriel's untamed spirit proves more powerful than he can resist.  In her garden paradise, passion binds them body and soul despite the agonizing consequences.

Can Meriel forgive Dominic's deceit once she learns he is not Kyle, and can Kyle forgive the betrayal of the brother who had once been closer than his own shadow?  Then past and present collide in a dangerous cataclysm that may bring destruction--or lasting love and a hope for beginnings.

Excellent Read. This book had me captivated from the beginning. A novel of pain, destruction and love, and loved conquered all.

Lots of history! Lots of love!. I thoroughly enjoyed the story line and historical perspectives. Easy reading and the characters came to life in the story. Unexpected but happy ending. Couldn’t put it down!

Wild Child. I loved this story so much it was hard to put it down. It is not your typical historical romance and is intriguing throughout. The characters are wonderfully created and each peaks one’s curiosity. It is one of the best books I’ve read in a while.

Great!. Captivating, more than just the usual romance novel. The back story and development of the characters is excellently executed.

Five Stars…. This book is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! The characters and storyline are so unique, I literally couldn’t put the book down! Five stars isn’t enough!

Great Book. I enjoyed reading this book, it is always said that twins feel things when apart. My husband I had those same feelings when he was in the Navy and overseas.

Not bad, but not that good either. I have read other of Putney’s work, and this one just annoyed me towards the end. (Spoiler Alert) Once it became known that she wasn’t really crazy, and she simply liked the idea of being free and able to act however she wanted, I got annoyed. I became even more annoyed when she couldn’t understand that simply having Dominic as a plaything wasn’t possible. I couldn’t finish the book because I got bored. I began to skip a lot of pages, and that’s when I realized I had to stop.

The Wild Child. I could not put this book down until I finished it.

Great reading. Loved the wildling 🥰

The Wild Child. Loved this book it was hard to put down. The characters were great, good story loved Dominic and the Wild Child as well as the others, cannot wait to start next in series and see how the Kyle's story ends. I liked the whole twin thing most I know have a sense of when something is wrong in the others life.

The wild child. An amazing story, I read this book through the night as I could not put it down. I highly recommend this book and give it more than five stars.

Interesting storyline. An unusual but most enjoyable read. Delightful main characters, cleverly woven sub plots. When one twin stood in for the other, I thought where is this going? Been done countless times before. However the author pulled it off. Intrigue, suspense and romance with a HEA

Don’t waste your time. Shocking read.

Wonderful story. Loved the book, wonderful writer

The Wild Child. I found it very difficult to put the book down. The detail description of each character and situation is so realistic it puts you in the book to experience each situation. Meriel is orphan as a child when the family was in India. She is found and sent to England to live being looked after by two widowed relatives and does not speak. She is labeled as mad. When Kyle Maxwell, agrees to marry and needs to go visit Warfield where Meriel lives,an unexpected situation arises and he asks his identical twin brother, younger by a few minutes, to go to Warfield in his stead. Dominic sees Meriel and understands her better than anyone ever has before. As the story unfolds it brings out different facets of each character and ends on an unimaginable note. You have to read it to experience the story. I love books written by Mary Jo Putney and this one is outstanding.
