Best book I read in 2022. I was very hesitant about this book as the readers I saw gushing over it online were typically those who do not like the same type of books as myself. However, I am so glad I took the time to read this. I went from skeptical to in love with just one chapter. It was easily the best book I read in 2022.

5 stars. I loved this book. I enjoyed the details of all things nature. Really helped paint the picture in my head. The last chapter has got to be my favorite part. Was not expecting it. I have yet to see the movie but I hear great things about that too.

Effortless.. This book flows from start to finish. The movie is very good, but the book is much better. It is amazing how cruel people can be... even as children go one another. This book describes someone who clings to nature to be her friend, finding peace with Mother Earth.

Extraordinary work. This book brings everything to life. The characters, the place, the sounds you would expect to hear, feel alive while reading. I also enjoyed that is was written and reads like it was 1960 again. I’ve heard other say that they didn’t enjoy it due to segregation and old views but in reality, that is how a lot of states in the south still lived. What they’ve missed is how when we have nothing and we are just trying to survive, it didn’t matter what color your skin was. There are real eye opening moments in this book that kept me up, reading till midnight, knowing that I had to work in 4 hours but so engrossed I couldn’t put it down.

Surreal. I gave this book 4 stars as it’s a long slow start for quite a bit of pages, more than most books. I would have given 4.5 if I could - because that is it’s only flaw. This book is skillfully written to have the reader cling to every word. The book transfers you into its setting as if you are beside the characters watching every move and thought. The climax will have you sneaking in time to read (even when you don’t have that time). And the twist will leave you questioning your ability to predict. Over all this is a fantastic plot with great detail to help you be present in every piece of the story. While this story is very enjoyable, this is not a “quick easy” read to read mindlessly, you have to be prepared to focus to follow along. This component is however how the author was able to create such a suspenseful detailed story and it is a key part of the book’s success.

Wonderful story. An absolute masterpiece. Author made me feel everything. Pulling at my heart strings to the sand between my toes. Loved it is an understatement!

NOT ORIGINAL. A complete rip off of V.C. Andrews’ Ruby series.

A Fried Green Tomatoes type book. I loved each word in this book, and, indeed, I didn’t know words can carry so much. A bit disappointed with the end though. But nice romance and catchy.

Enjoyable, hits several touch points without being too heavy. An easy, touching read with an interesting enough story. Enjoyed how the main character lived such a different life than most of us do, yet was relatable. Also enjoyed how the marsh/nature was a very real character in the story as well.

Amazing. Could not put down. The life and imagery brought in by each paragraph gave way to a surreal world that is unbiased and raw. As some may believe there is rasicm, I will clearly state there is none. This book tells the story honestly within the time as to not shatter the imagery. The rasicm viewed is the reality of that time, not of the author. It is because she bravely and respectfully included historically accurate views and language that the story continued to flow so fluidly. A true work of art that puts the reader in a melancholy yet introspective view of themselves and others around them. Thank you.

It was alright. Honestly, i was expecting an amazing murder mystery becuase of the reviews but it was disappointing in that way. I felt like it was a lot like a Colleen Hoover book and if you like those kind of books then this one is definitely for you. The romance was very prominent and I absolutely loved the setting and nature that the book was created in. It was honestly a sad book from the very beginning to the end, and this is definitely like a 15+ book (there’s a lot of interesting and graphic scenes with two lovers). However, I give this book a 3/5 because I was expecting an exciting thriller mystery but it was severely lacking until the end. I felt like there was a lot of unnecessary buildup. This one definitely isn’t one of my favorite books but if you like romance and coming of age stories then i recommend.

Highly recommend. The characters are rich and have layers of complexity that keep you turning the pages. Spellbinding until the end.

Excellent book. This book is full of life. It’s a genuine story full of heart. A reminder that nature is important to keep alive and to appreciate knowing that it is in our very soul.

Slow start but then couldn’t put it down.. The first quarter of this book really didn’t catch my interest. I read 35-40 pages and then put it down for nearly 2 years. Heard about the movie and decided to give it another chance. Read even more the second time and was about to give up again but then my interest was caught. The last half I couldn’t put it down. I recommend highly.

Wow!. I have never been a reader but I decided I wanted to become one as I do really enjoy reading! I follow this girl on Instagram that claimed this book was one of her now favourites out of tons of books she’s already read so I decided this would be my first book to start my reading journey! I was not disappointed this book is absolutely amazing and only took me 6 days to read I could not put it down! I love Kya’s character and could not imagine having to live the life she did and be nearly as happy and successful as she became! This book is a love story, true crime, and nature loving book all in one and could not have been written any better I would recommend this book to anyone who has every though of reading it! 10/10 🥰

Where the crawdads sing. Such an incredibly told tale … beautifully written and so compelling I couldn’t put it down. I’m sad I finished this book. It will be difficult to get Kya out of my mind. I think I’ll keep her with me for awhile. I loved this book … I devoured it.

<3. This author unleashed all the feelings I needed to feel

From the spirit. Ms Owens writes in an easy style that exposes her spirit. The story is more intriguing than it is exciting. It speaks to life in the purest. I completed the read in three days and now feel like I have lost a good friend.

Addictive Page Turning Emotional rollercoaster. I got this book as a gift, and although not a genre or book I would pick out myself. Owens quickly appealed to the feminist in me with her story about a young poor girl in southern states enduring abandonment, poverty and rejection and social isolation and yet is able to thrive and navigate ugliness in her life with grace and tenacity for surviving in her mash. With each roadblock Kya encounters, the more the reader becomes ensnared by novel. Kya’s determination and perseverance in the face of social and emotional trauma is inspiring but do not read if you are afraid to cry or fear becoming emotionally invested in the narrative.

Best book!. Best book I’ve read in a long time that made me cry tears of sadness AND joy. Very well written.

Most beautifully and vividly written story of love and acceptance.. One of the best, if not the BEST story I have ever read. Your senses will be heightened as you see, smell, feel, hear and learn of the inhabitance of the coastal waters of North Carolina in 1969, from the perspective of a female raised lonely and alone from the tender age of 6. The author’s poetically woven words will captivate you. You will empathize with the one girl no one showed empathy for, other than Jumpin’, his wife Mabel, brother Jodie, and true love, Tate. Through love and betrayal The Marsh Girl goes from being the dirty monster everyone rejected to legend and loved by the locals of Barkley Cove. Nothing is ever too far away to be able to change and this book teaches that change and love sometimes come at a price but love and forgiveness and acceptance in the end are all that matter.

As murky, marvellous and misunderstood as the marsh itself. An incredible story about survival that, at times sways towards the incredulous. The pity, pride and love we feel for this little rag-a-muffin turns into reproachful worrying as she grows up. When Kya becomes a woman, the story takes a turn straight into a harlequin romance novel and then straight into an old fashioned whodunnit. It is, first and foremost a tale about prejudice, but not in the traditional sense of racial inequality. It is about abuse brought on by personal torment. It is about finding solace and beauty when you have nothing else. It is about finding your soul and keeping your sanity, in the written word.

The best!. Loved this book! A must read for everyone, reaches every emotion!
