Tell Me Lies by Carola Lovering Book Summary

Now an original series on Hulu!
YOU NEVER FORGET YOUR WORST.

“A twisted modern love story” (Parade), Tell Me Lies is a sexy, thrilling novel about that one person who still haunts you—the other one. The wrong one. The one you couldn’t let go of. The one you’ll never forget.

Lucy Albright is far from her Long Island upbringing when she arrives on the campus of her small California college and happy to be hundreds of miles from her mother—whom she’s never forgiven for an act of betrayal in her early teen years. Quickly grasping at her fresh start, Lucy embraces college life and all it has to offer. And then she meets Stephen DeMarco. Charming. Attractive. Complicated. Devastating.

Confident and cocksure, Stephen sees something in Lucy that no one else has, and she’s quickly seduced by this vision of herself, and the sense of possibility that his attention brings her. Meanwhile, Stephen is determined to forget an incident buried in his past that, if exposed, could ruin him, and his single-minded drive for success extends to winning, and keeping, Lucy’s heart.

Lucy knows there’s something about Stephen that isn’t to be trusted. Stephen knows Lucy can’t tear herself away. And their addicting entanglement will have consequences they never could have imagined.

Alternating between Lucy’s and Stephen’s voices, Tell Me Lies follows their connection through college and post-college life in New York City. “Readers will be enraptured” (Booklist) by the “unforgettable beauties in this very sexy story” (Kirkus Review). With the psychological insight and biting wit of Luckiest Girl Alive, and the yearning ambitions and desires of Sweetbitter, this keenly intelligent and supremely resonant novel chronicles the exhilaration and dilemmas of young adulthood and the difficulty of letting go—even when you know you should.

Pulls your youngest and deepest heartstrings. We really all do have a Stephen DeMarco. The author really knows how to capture feelings and bring you right back to your own personal moments that are being told through someone else’s story. Well worth the whole entire read.

Never gets good. Boring book about a young woman with no self respect.

Really great read. As someone who works in the medical field, the author’s depiction of sociopathic behavior is spot on !! I hope this depiction is due to research and not experience. That being said, this isn’t so much a love story but a hopeful journey of a young woman trying to find herself. It is very well written although I wish more emphasis was placed on Lucy’s own psychiatric issues which were implied but not always addressed. These things such as eating disorders are serious topics and do not just fade away.

Awful Characters. The two main characters are horrible people. HORRIBLE! There are no redeeming pages here and there’s never a resolution to the horrible thing he’s done 🙄. I don’t know how much I paid for this book but it was way too much. How does something like this get a series made out of it. I am so angry at how awful this book was.

Tell Me Lies. Totally worth the hype. A character study and full of life lessons that we struggle with throughout. I loved it.

Well written but. But the main character made me so mad

Book & Tv Show are two different stories, in a good way.. Okay, I’ll admit it, I watched the show first. The show is great because the rewrites turn it into a completely different story with the same character names. Definitely 10/10 recommend the show. As for the book, just as good but in a different way. The book is more relatable and it is a page turner. I finished this book in 2 days, I absolutely loved the story and the way the book was written with both Stephens & Lucy’s sides of the story. Unfortunately, I felt the ending was rushed. Didn’t love how Macy’s storyline ended (wanted more from stephen in that department) and felt like we could’ve gotten more from Stephens and Lucy’s relationship as well. Overall 8.5/10 book, would recommend.

Amazing read!. This was such an amazing, fun, page turning read. A great journey and so well written. I didn’t put it down! Highhhhly recommend - 12/10

Disappointed. Wanted to love the book as much as I love the show. Thank goodness for rewrites! The book is awful, so much building for no real outcome. The male main character is a horrible person who never faces any true consequences. Lucy, the female lead, has the potential but she lets Stephen ruin her. Just awful. Stick to the tv series.

Awful. Should come with a warning about abusive relationships and eating disorders.

Owwweeee. El lo olvido El se olvido de quien era, quien era Su mente cedió y colapso en un ataque de ira Daño causo a su alrededor pues nadie entendia Se encerro en su propia prision Que pena, Que pena Solo quedo hasta viejo llego y se murio se suicido

My new favorite book!. Oh. My. Goodness….I couldn’t put this down! It was so scarily relatable!

Different. The writing was well done and I loved how the story was told in parts and different view points. I hated the characters because that’s what I was supposed to do - that’s how well the writing was done that I hated what I was reading for the people involved but I couldn’t stop reading. This book sort of made me relive a toxic relationship in the ~24 hours I devoured it and, at times, I hated myself as much as I hated the situation the characters were in with every page.

Terrible story. Not that I need happy endings ,but the characters were very unlikeable. Probably one of the worst books I’ve read in a while.

if you’re thinking of reading this because you loved the show…don’t. the show is leagues better than the book and that’s rare. the best part of this book was being finished with it so i could read something else. i only finished it because i paid for it.

Wanted a bit more. Lots of build up but not enough resolution. Great read though.

Terrible. Terrible

Fantastic. Couldn’t stopped reading.

Annoying main character. Just went on and on too much about Stephen.. made the poor girl sound pathetic and then nothing really happened..

It’s ok. Stephen from the book is way crappier of a person than in the show. Definitely a sociopath. Lucy in the book is your typical damaged teenager and make decisions based off that. He totally love bombs every chick he is with and tricks them into believing he actually cares when in reality all he cares about is himself and his needs/wants. I think most people have dated a crappy person that might be hard to quit. That is basically the theme throughout the book and show. Luckily most of us grow up and learn from our mistakes.

simply a treasure. still find myself coming back to particular passages just to savor the wisdom. so poignantly relatable. the world needs more reads like this. for anyone who’s been consumed and shattered by toxic love, this is your story.

Sad but true.... A really good read. Loved the characters and unfortunately everyone I know has had the sad experience of knowing (or not really knowing) a “Stephen”.

Great read!. I could not put this book down at all!! It was amazingly brilliant and I loved it, I loved it so much I didn’t want it to end but I couldn’t stop reading! Fun, flirty and bunch of lies!

Paints men in a bad light. While although I am not a man, I felt this book to be extremely disrespectful to men. Stephen’s thoughts were extremely alarming, I am hoping most men do not have his thoughts during a relationship. I found it frustrating that the characters kept going back to each other and there was really no point to the book.

Loved it!!. Absolutely an outstanding book!! Felt like I was in it the whole time! Love how it’s way off from the Netflix series! Way better! Definitely a page turner!
