Descriptive. Not much depth to the plot. I easily pictured the surroundings and the people from the descriptions. Easy read but not really much to it.

I wasn’t disappointed. This story was quite different from “The House of Closed Doors” series I read. I wasn’t sure at the beginning that I would like it. But, I found that it became more and more interesting. It had twists that I never thought would happen. It turned out to be a great read with a great story.

Good book but not really a mystery. This is a well written book. It is a family drama not a mystery story. It is a little too psychological for me.

Superb!. An excellent story, recounted by a superb writer. A tale that was engrossing from the first page, to the last. I enjoyed getting to know all the various characters and was truly saddened when the story came to a satisfying, but much too early, conclusion. I’m certain some day I will reread this grand piece of fiction!

Fascinating and Dramatic. This novel would probably attract more women on the basis of 1881 Aristocracy era. I appreciate the research effort to understand the daily lives and tragedies of the characters in this period.
