The Forbidden Door by Dean Koontz Book Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • When this relentless rogue FBI agent comes knocking, her adversaries will have to answer—with their lives—in this thrilling Jane Hawk novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Corner.

“Koontz continues the incredible saga of the robust character of Jane Hawk, and it’s as terrific as the others in the series.”—Associated Press

“We’re rewriting the play, and the play is this country, the world, the future. We break Jane’s heart, we’ll also break her will.”

She was one of the FBI’s top agents until she became the nation’s most-wanted fugitive. Now Jane Hawk may be all that stands between a free nation and its enslavement by a powerful secret society’s terrifying mind-control technology. She couldn’t save her husband, or the others whose lives have been destroyed, but equipped with superior tactical and survival skills—and the fury born of a broken heart and a hunger for justice—Jane has struck major blows against the insidious cabal.

But Jane’s enemies are about to hit back hard. If their best operatives can’t outrun her, they mean to bring her running to them, using her five-year-old son as bait. Jane knows there’s no underestimating their capabilities, but she must battle her way back across the country to the remote shelter where her boy is safely hidden . . . for now. As she moves resolutely forward, new threats begin to emerge: a growing number of brain-altered victims driven hopelessly, violently insane. With the madness spreading like a virus, the war between Jane and her enemies will become a fight for all their lives—against the lethal terror unleashed from behind the forbidden door.

Don’t miss any of Dean Koontz’s gripping Jane Hawk thrillers:
THE SILENT CORNER • THE WHISPERING ROOM • THE CROOKED STAIRCASE • THE FORBIDDEN DOOR • THE NIGHT WINDOW

Overly Descriptive and Flawed. Characters invested in and spent many pages delving into disappear without ceremony or meaning. Dean Koontz, known for his over-use of similes and grandiose descriptions seems to have doubled down on this one. However, in the end, Jane Hawk and the unraveling conspiracy keep the reader turning the pages.

Great read!. Fast paced, loved it. I especially love when Koontz just smacks you in the face with something that you weren’t expecting and didn’t see coming.

Wow, caught fire. Fourth book in this series and my first read. The start was slow and a little tedious. Started picking up about a third into the book and WOW, the interest caught fire. The story is almost a “big brother” scenario , with the revolutionary truly bad guys seeming to always get the upper hand. By the end of this book, all is not well with the revolution and the main character, Jane Hawk is on the move, trying to stay alive, at a high price. A good read.

Good Read.. Cant wait for the next book.

The Forbidden Door. Same story as first two. Boring. Taking an okay idea and drawing it out. This was my last book in the series..

The Crooked Staircase. Wow! As usual a great read. How will Jane get out of this? Well, she better meet her goal or I’ll burn all of my Dean Koontz books.

Absolute rubbish. Don’t waste your money. This is absolute rubbish. The author uses over a 1000 pages to tell a 250 page story.

Stupido. Chock full of irrelevant fluff - 400 pages could be reduced to 50 pages of actual content.

Great read!. I was skeptical before I opened to the first page, but that dissipated after the first few paragraphs😄. What a thrill-ride with all the goodies. Drama, suspense, and love are entwined throughout! This series is a must-read. But, hold on tight because Koontz is taking you on a sci-go thriller that will get you to take a second look at your boss, your neighbor, and your spouse.

Awesome Thriller. The Forbidden Door is an awesome suspense-filled thriller. The main character, Jane is an ex-FBI agent on a mission to destroy the men who are installing mind-control technology in people in order to gain dominion over all of society. She is also on the run trying to not get herself caught and killed. She avoids all kinds of tight situations. She is being chased by the best of the best bad guys. They are right behind her each step of the way. She is a marvelous character. She's surrounded by a team of equally great characters. Dean Koontz is one of my favorite authors. This novel ranks among his best in my opinion. I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion of it.

Jane versus the Arcadians in a Quest to rescue her son. Dean Koontz kept me totally absorbed in his new Jane Hawk thriller. Jane seemed to be a minor character in this book, with the focus more on the bad guys, known as the Techno-Arcadians. I learned a lot more about how their authority structure worked and how they were disciplined. Many of the scenes in which the Arcadians encountered and fought against regular civilians were absolutely horrifying. Without giving anything away, the title itself turns out to be an extremely violent and horrifying spectacle that left me gasping for breath and hurrying to read to the end of that scene. In this book, Travis is in danger and Jane has to risk everything to get to him to save him. The love of a mother for her child knows no bounds, as shown in this book that continues the saga of Jane versus the bad guys. My favorite character was Cornell, a giant man with a big heart and a lot of psychological problems. But his way of approaching problems was nothing less than heroic and I loved his gentleness, kindness and acceptance of what was happening. This book is a must read if you are a fan of the Jane Hawk series as I am, but I have to say that the violence is increased in this book and graphically described, so it is not for the faint of heart. Loraine. U sure do keep me frustrated, Dean! A lot of u authors r doing these sequels to death...leaving ur readers on edge...Please leave the books to 3 or less...I’m going broke! Shades of the Authorians

More more more!!! Mr. Koontz never fails to keep me glued to the pages.. Jane Hawk is unforgettable. She is arguably the most captivating protagonist Mr. Koontz has created to date. While reading Jane, I must set an alarm to keep myself from being late to work, bed, life in general, etc. Seriously, Jane Hawk never ceases to amaze, making it difficult to focus on much else but her next move. Her trusted allies are equally mesmerizing. I have fallen in love with the whole lot of them. Even some of the creepy characters are fascinating. I have no idea how Mr. Koontz does it, but I sure am grateful. If you’re wondering if Jane is worthy of your time, the answer (in my opinion) is an unequivocal “Yes!”. Start from the beginning though.., you won’t want to miss a beat. #gojanego

The Forbidden Door. Doesn’t really get one star. Worst book I’ve read in year.

The Forbidden Door. This series of books is from the Dean Koontz I know and love.Good and evil,a child, and of course a dog(in this case two).I always have to look up at least one new word for me in the dictionary.I love the verbose pictures painted and for the vast majority of the time ,I agree with the philosophy.Cannot wait for the next stage of Jane Hawk’s adventure!

Bloody awful. What a waste of time! The book is bloody and awful and just plain stupid. I'd rather eat worms than finish this poorly written sappy series.
