Gaudete et exsultate (Alegraos y regocijaos) es el título de la nueva exhortación apostólica que el Papa Francisco ha querido dedicar a la llamada a la santidad en el mundo de hoy.
El título corresponde a las últimas frases de las bienaventuranzas: «Alegraos y regocijaos porque vuestra recompensa será grande en los cielos».
Los frutos de la Iglesia son aquellos cristianos que han procurado vivir el mandato de Dios: «Sed santos como vuestro Padre celestial es santo». La gracia de la santidad no es privilegio de unos pocos, sino de todo el pueblo de Dios: sacerdotes, religiosos y laicos; que viven en el mundo actual, enfrentándose a los mismos afanes que el resto de sus conciudadanos.
Gaudete et exsultate es el quinto documento escrito por Francisco en estos cinco años de pontificado. No es la primera vez que el Papa publica un texto con referencias a la alegría: las exhortaciones Evangelii gaudium (La alegría del Evangelio) de 2013, Amoris laetitia (La alegría del amor) de 2016, y la encíclica Laudato si’ (Alabado seas) de 2015. Textos a los que hay que sumar la primera encíclica Lumen fidei (La Luz de la Fe) de 2013.
