Ten Things I Hate About the Duke Book Reviews
Ten Things I Hate About the Duke by Loretta Chase Book Summary
USA Today bestselling author Loretta Chase continues her Difficult Dukes series with this delightful spin on Shakespeare's classic, The Taming of the Shrew.
This time, who’s taming whom…
Cassandra Pomfret holds strong opinions she isn’t shy about voicing. But her extremely plain speaking has caused an uproar, and her exasperated father, hoping a husband will rein her in, has ruled that her beloved sister can’t marry until Cassandra does.
Now, thanks to a certain wild-living nobleman, the last shreds of Cassandra’s reputation are about to disintegrate, taking her sister’s future and her family’s good name along with them.
The Duke of Ashmont’s looks make women swoon. His character flaws are beyond counting. He’s lost a perfectly good bride through his own carelessness. He nearly killed one of his two best friends. Still, troublemaker that he is, he knows that damaging a lady’s good name isn’t sporting.
The only way to right the wrong is to marry her…and hope she doesn’t smother him in his sleep on their wedding night.

Charming and *mostly* believable redemption. Ashmont had a long road to take to become a believable leading man worthy of a woman like Cassandra. She’s no shrinking violet, and demands a man who lives up to her own brand of Outrageous. Ashmont’s metamorphosis into a man worthy of being a husband and partner in life is earned, rather than rushed as so many novels do. He’s a charming and clever character who lives up to the title of “gentleman” by the end of the story.
10 Things I Hate About the Duke. Another wonderful book by Loretta Chase. I do a little happy dance when I see that this marvelous romance author has released another novel. If I have one complaint it’s that - likely because they are so well written and researched, with such well developed characters - I have to wait longer between publications, than with more formulaic authors. The Difficult Duke series is witty and romantic, with strong, engaging, clever heroines - that are well matched with gorgeous, funny, and slightly befuddled heroes. I find that a recurring Chase hallmark is a hero who has many positive, romantic, sexy attributes, but often seems relieved to find a woman who will do the heavy thinking for him. I really like this trope - it’s the chemistry in many classic screwball comedies. The banter is light, frothy, funny and still warm and meaningful, and relatively period authentic. Her secondary characters always breathe and add to the creative world, rather than being plot devices and wallpaper. This is the first public review comment that I have ever made - I felt compelled to counter some of the negative comments I have read here and disagree with. Loretta Chase’s books are very well written for the romance genre, or any genre. The DD series remind me of the addictive, excellent form of the Carstairs series. I can’t wait for the next one. :-)
Very enjoyable!. I love the humor Loretta Chase adds to her books! I also like the inclusion of strong women. This book was very entertaining. Can’t wait for the next book!
A waste of time. The book is poorly written. I have a headache trying to make sense of the interactions. Save the money.
4 Stars!!. 4 Stars!! This is book 2 in the ‘Difficult Dukes’ series. I didn’t get to read book 1 first but I understood pretty much everything, so it can be read as a standalone! An intelligent bluestocking that try’s to help others and if not for the fact that she’s a woman, would do even more good, and an arrogant Duke that’s done nothing but pranks, drinking or whatever HE wants his whole life, wasting all of his opportunities to do good for others. I loved how the main female character, Cassandra, didn’t let the main male, the Duke of Ashmont, get away with anything, or any other man for that matter! If it’s one thing I hate in a book, it’s a weak female! I’d have hated to be a woman back then, as I’m NOT a quite, dutiful little lady! This book had me entertained and I read it pretty fast! I’d definitely recommend this book! I can’t wait for the other books in this series. *I am voluntarily leaving a review for an ARC that was provided to me by NetGalley!*
4.25. Fluffy, humorous, not much plot but still enjoyed the characters
