Shouldn't Have You by Carrie Ann Ryan Book Summary

From NYT bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan, continues a brand new series where second chances don’t come often, and overcoming an unexpected loss means breaking everything you knew.

Harmony Wynham has been many things in her life: daughter, friend, student, lover, wife…and now, widow. Getting past those labels and finding who she could be without them was the hardest thing she’s ever done.
Then she became friends with Brendon.
Every time she looks at him, she sees a past, she sees a present, and she’s afraid if she looks too hard, she’ll see a future.

Brendon Connolly has known Harmony since before she got married. Before she lost everything. He didn’t know that one day she wouldn’t be just his friend but the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
Only he don't think that can happen.
Not when every time she looks at him, she sees what she lost, and he can only see what he can't overcome.
He loves her, even though he shouldn't. Somehow, they need to find a balance.
Because if they don't, walking away will be the hardest thing she’s ever done—even if it's the only thing he should do.

Another one outta the park. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book Hope you have your tissues handy for this one folks because you will need them! Next up in our Fractured Connections group is Harmony and Brendon. Harmony, at such a young age, has now dealt with two huge losses; the sudden death of her husband and now the death of one of her best friends. Brendon and Harmony were friends in school, her husband was his business partner, and they are learning to be friends again. Brendon is someone who did not have a great home life until Jack and Rose and even though he had a better life after those early years did a number on him. Harmony has started dating again, much to her dismay, and is only happy with her dates when she talks to Brendon afterwards. Brendon has secret feelings for Harmony but feels that he is not good enough for her for several reasons of which I will not go into because you gotta read the book!!! LOL!!! Both characters are very well written and makes you have tons of feelings for them. I love the way they develop from friends to more than friends, its something for her that is just like “there you are, where have you been”. For him it was like “ I love her but she can do so much better,” yes he had feeling for her but they didn’t come about until after the death of her husband There is sooooo much to say about this book but I really don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Ryan has once again wrote a beautiful story grounded in real life. If you know anything about Carrie Ann Ryan you know this one hit close to home, but as she says in the Author’s note this is not her story this is Harmony’s and I think Harmony, Brendon and Moyer justice.

10 Amazing Stars!!!. Shouldn't Have You broke me and had me crying tears that seemed endless. The words Carrie gives us melts into our soul and you will literally feel the pain and heartache the characters endure. So when I met Harmony and Brendon, I truly thought they were only meant to stay as friends. As the story progressed, I saw more and a friendship that took on more. Brendon was a protector first, but demons from his past will be his uphill battle. Harmony was my hero. I loved her endurance for life and kicking it back in the when she needed to. This story hits close to home and for some, it a story they have lived before. Shouldn't Have You is waking up from mourning. It is not forgetting the past and pain, its the acceptance and the will to live on. Carrie has brought so much emotion and life to the story, you will be transported into their world. A world that you want to persevere with the rest of the characters. If you have experience loss, whether in death or life in general, you have to have this book om your shelf! MUST READ!!!

Shouldn’t Have You. I absolutely loved this book! The stories of Brendan and Harmony was sexy, sad at times, but oh so sweet!

Shouldn’t…. Very heavy story, well written, and emotionally satisfying.

So Good!. This story was emotional and healing at the same time. Brendon and Harmony had been through so much together and even more individually. Watching them figure it out and also getting pushed by the people who love them. The Connolly brothers are fun to watch interact and then with the addition of Dillon, he at times is full of gems that the guys are in awe of. This story was well put together and thoughtful. Loved it!!!

Wonderful Book!. Shouldn’t Have You is the second installment of the Fractured Connections series. It is an unbelievable addition to the series. I found myself being able to relate to both characters. Ryan does an excellent job giving insight into the characters’ feelings. I have loved every book that CAR has written but this one is my favorite by far. If this is just the second installment, I cannot wait for the other additions.

A renewed chance at love. Very moving story that helps us realize that although tragic things might happen in our lives we need to have the courage to move forward so as not to miss out on experiencing a new sense of happiness and love in our life that could be there right before our eyes.

A Beautiful Story. This is book #2 in the "Fractured Connections" series. It's a friends-to-lovers book with such a beautiful story. It touched my heart in the best ways, with all the feels. Grief, Love, acceptance, healing, hope, friendship. You can feel the relationship building between Harmony and Brendon. Harmony is struggling with moving on after the death of her husband Moyer, who also happened to be Brendon's best friend. Brendon is struggling with not being able to save Moyer as well as his traumatic childhood that still gives him nightmares. Brendon and Harmony have been friends far longer then either have know Moyer, yet they never had feeling other then friendship before. They are enjoying the friendship they share now and are afraid of the feelings that they are having for each other. Your heart will hurt for these two as they struggle to move past their losses and past horrors. Carrie Ann kept me riveted from sentence one. You will laugh. You will definitely cry, so keep a box of tissues handy. It was such an amazing emotional read. I loved watching these two get their HEA. I also enjoyed that we get to see characters from the previous book as well as the ones for future books. The bond between the Connolly brother's and Harmony's "sisters" is such a strong one that you feel can feel the bond between them all. This is for sure a must read.

All the Feels!!. Shouldn’t Have You is the second book in The Fractured Connections series. Another emotional roller coaster, this time for Harmony and Brendon. I am loving this series.

Awesome!!. I loved this story of Brendan and Harmony. The tragedy they both overcame brought them together. Jack and Rose raised three strong wonderful men. It was funny, sad and loving. Everything a romance novel should be. Highly recommend this.

Shouldn’t have you. Oh my goodness I absolutely loved this book. This is the 2nd one in the series. I can not wait for more. Definitely read the first you will not be disappointed.

Widow+Old Friend=HEA. I loved that this book was so different than most! Harmony and Brandon seemed so in sync with each others feelings and emotions. Such a great couple!

Emotional ride. This was definitely filled with emotions. Two people connected by the lose of someone they loved and shared, a best friend and a husband. They were always friends, but they start feeling more, and maybe get just a little scared by that. But feelings prevail, and in the end the heart wins

“2 stories”. While this book tackled the difficult topic of young widowhood, it really felt like I was reading two separate books as I switched from chapter to chapter between characters. This made it difficult for me to really get into as a reader.

Great story of rebuilding a life. Thank you for sharing the story of how a widow can live and love for the past, present and the future.

Emotional story. This book was so emotional that it made me cry repeatedly. I loved how it describes the struggles one would face after losing the live of their life.

Shouldn’t have you. Good story although predictable.

Shouldn’t have you. This is the second book in the Fractured Connections series. Three friends Violet, Harmony, and Sienna are learning to live without their fourth, Alison, after her passing. At the same time the Connelly brothers Cameron, Brendon, and Aiden are learning to save a bar, be brothers again, and add a forth into the mix, all while grieving Alison’s loss and trying to help the girls keep going. Harmony has already lost one love in her life, and is only just starting to try and date again but the dating pool seems very limited. Brendon was close friends with Harmony’s husband Moyer and feels like he could be stepping on toes with the feelings he has developed for her. This was such a great book. The build up in the series has been so heartbreaking and real, but also very healing for the group. I love that Harmony & Brendon weren’t left for last. It’s such a touchy topic moving on to the next steps in life after losing a spouse, but also doing it with a friend makes the step easier and harder at the same time. I love that C.A.R doesn’t gloss over these hard touchy topics like some authors do by adding them in like side notes. The grief these six people share and have to learn to live with everyday IS the story. As always the audio by Joe Arden & Maxine Mitchell was amazing and this series was the perfect series for the duel narration.

Journey through Loss & Rediscovery of Love. Harmony and Brendan are a friends to lovers story. They’ve both felt with large life hurdles and have evolved as people do when they’re going through their trials and tribulations. Brendan doesnt want to overstep with his deceased friend’s (and Harmony’s husband) boundaries. He tries to do the right thing, but sometimes, the right thing is standing in front of you. Read more about this couple and their journey through loss and rediscovery of love. 4.5/5

Shouldn’t Have You. Sad, happy, roller coaster, terrific story.

Amazing Series. This book is inspiring engaging and emotional. The raw feeling shared between harmony and Brendon about their past experiences is refreshing and human. Together they learn to love and trust again.

4.5 Stars 🌟A heart warming tale of love and loss. This second book in the Fractured series, is yet another deep, emotional and heartwarming story. This story focuses on Harmony (a young widow who has already loved and lost the love of her life) and Brendon, who has been her friend since she was a child, and who is there to provide support and friendship; until they both realised it is so much more. A poignant and moving story, and an enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book and all of Carrie Ann Ryan’s series. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Awesome book. Book 2 of Fractured Connections Series This book begins right after the first book with Brandon and Harmony doing there friendship/dating dance. Harmony is a widow and after her husband died she went on autopilot for a while but now she’s trying to date with little success. Brendon was harmony’s husbands bff until one day at a traffic lights everything changed. He still struggles with what happened and after Harmony started dating Brendon has been struggling with his feelings. This book has such heartbreaking moments especially between Harmony and Brendon after they get together and try find out what they mean to each other. This is first honest book I’ve read about heartbreak from losing a spouse and bff. I absolutely love this series and the narrators are amazing. I love the duo of male and female voice but would have loved if they had narrated together each taking separate male/female voice instead of each taking a chapter but still Carrie Ann Ryan really has great taste in narrators. Can’t wait for more.

Soul-Stirring and an Impassioned Read. Shouldn’t Have You is the second book in the Fractured Connections series and is a soul-stirring and impassioned read. Two people connected by not only a friendship but a tragic event. As an intensity of feelings stirs between these two, confusion reigns and anxieties increase. Brendon and Harmony will have you walking a fine line between sorrow and happiness as their past, present and future start to entangle. As these two discover that they are each other’s perfect melody it will take acceptance and inner strength to embrace their feelings. A story that at times is heart-rending, will take you on a powerful journey of an uplifting friendship that will evolve into a passionate love that will steal your heart.

Wow. ‘Shouldn't Have You’ by Carrie Ann Ryan is book Two in the Fractured Connections Series. This is the story of Harmony Wynham and Brendon Connolly. Although each of the books can be read as a standalone I would highly suggest you read them in order because each of the these books have similar characters in them, just the main characters will be different with each of their own stories to tell. This is a friends to lovers story, but there is much more than that about this book. Talk about emotional roller coaster that pulls you in with all the Grief, Trauma, Love, Strength and healing that is in Brendon and Harmony’s story. This book is so deep with these emotions that it really takes ahold of your heart and makes it a book that will stick with you. Harmony and Brendon were friends before Harmony married Moyer. But the three of them were actually very close. But they eventually pull away from each other. After Moyer dies in a tragic accident and a mutual friend dies, both Harmony and Brendon start to hang out together again and try to help each other heal with their losses. I really enjoyed reading this book, it was so emotional for me as this was released just after my husband grandfather had passed. I can only imagine how Carrie Ann Ryan had felt at the time of writing this after her losing her husband. Carrie you did a fabulous job and should be so proud of yourself as I could feel the emotions coming off the pages.

Friends to Lover. This is the second book in this series and what gem !! Brendon and Harmony have been friends since they were in high school. Harmony thinks it’s time to try to date people since Moyer has been gone for 2 years, a couple of her friends from the charity she runs have hooked her up with blind dates. They seem to be closer and they don’t want to hurt there friendship. I highly recommend this read to everyone. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

Brendon and Harmony. This is a beautifully written story that touches on some hard topics but is full of love and hope. Brendon had a very rough start to life and though his life is good now he still has the scars. Harmony's husband, Brendon's best friend, was tragically killed in an accident two years ago, and Harmony is just starting to move on with her life. Can they be together as a couple? This is a touching story of finding love within a friendship. There is loss and tragedy but there is also love, friendships and most importantly hope.
