Matrimonial advertisement. I loved this book. Did not want it to end. Loved all the characters. I couldn’t put it down. I had to make myself. I don’t usually write reviews but I had to on this. I want more of Helena and Justin.

An ideal historical romance. The Matrimonial Advertisement is a lovely first book to the series. The characters are nicely fleshed, and the plot compelling. I particularly enjoyed the suspense Mimi imposes on the first half of the book. It’s delicious. I really couldn’t put it down and had to read it all in one sitting. Mimi’s writing is clean and interesting without being fussy. Her pacing is spot-on, and the plot, as already mentioned, is terrific. I look forward to much more of her work.

The Matrimonial Advertisement. A powerful story about transforming from victim to survivor of domestic and institutional abuse and, though part of a series, can be read as a standalone. The period, and subject matter are well-researched and the writing immersive. If I had to nitpick, Helena’s expensive upbringing being a repeated point of contention seems moot since her room at the Abbey has already been renovated, and shortly after she moves to the comfort of Half-Moon Street where she conveniently regains nearly the entirety of the wardrobe she left behind, which she originally planned on running the risk of shipping it to the Abbey somehow without getting tracked, despite being terrified that she herself had already been followed. Also, a couple times recycled descriptions resulted in random callbacks. But otherwise this was a good read. This series as a whole was a fairly good. Odds are readers will learn something new.

The Matrimonial Advertisement. Such a lovely book with endearing characters and a storyline with plenty of at-arms-length romance. This kept me rooting for Helena and Justin to find their way past their secrets. The intrigue was not overdone—it was perfect. I will certainly buy more books by Mimi Matthews,.

So tender love!. I really like this story with the twist and suspense, and old fasion romance. Easy to imagine characters. I could not stop reading until I finish the book.

A Wonderful Story!!. Beautifully written, The Matrimonial Advertisement is an emotional, moving and touching romance. It brings two wounded people together that really were meant for each other and were strong together. The premise of this new series surrounds some men that were orphaned and had so many challenges in their lives. What a great first book that held me captive from the first page in this unique storyline. Lady Helena Reynolds is running for her life and when she sees an advertisement for a wife in the paper, she hurries to Devon to get away from London as fast as she can. She needs protection and to be safe and prays the man she is going to will provide that in spades. Justin Thornhill, ex military captain with a hard background, only wants a wife to help him gain the trust of the villagers and bring some much needed structure to his home. He thinks that the woman who answered the ad is an older widow, but what he gets is young lovely Helena. Both have secrets and eventually as they begin to spend time together, they find the arrangement is more than they expected. Of course Justin is wary thinking no woman could really love him but he supports and guards Helena with his life. I wish I could convey how this story gripped my heart with the wonderful writing of this author. This is the first book I have read by her, but now I cannot wait to read more. Some of the secondary characters will soon have their own story and I know I will be reading them as soon as they are published!!

Loved!. I really really loved this one! Writing was perfect, I never got bored. One thing to note is there’s no smut lol, but the tension is great and while I usually like the spicy scenes, this book was not lacking because there wasn’t any.

Exceptional.. 5 stars.. I had absolutely no expectations about this Author and am thoroughly impressed. I rarely give 5 stars to many books but this sweeping tale, with well researched detail and evocative characters, thoroughly impressed me. I truly look forward to the next book in the series and the rest of Mimi Matthew’s collection.

A brilliant historical romance. Brilliantly written. It gave me all the feels. This book had no sauciness, yet it was passionate and intriguing. I felt so much when reading this book, it was so well written. The characters had so much depth and I enjoyed the unraveling of their stories. It was kinda new-age but definitely of that era, if that makes sense?! I sometimes get frustrated with historical novels being a 21st century person, yet this book did not illicit any ill feelings. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Delightful. Thoroughly enjoyed this storyline. It brought to light some of the quackery of Victorian times regarding mental illness which lasted long into the 20th century. Thornhill and Lady Helena were two very good characters, albeit from different walks of life. Essentially under normal circumstances their paths would not have crossed, but .... and therein lies the context of the story. Well worth the read, it is edited and the author keeps to the era.
