Where The Truth Lies by M. J. Lee Book Summary

The case was closed. Until people started dying…

DI Thomas Ridpath was on the up in the Manchester CID: a promising detective who captured a notorious serial killer. But ten years later he’s recovering from a serious illness and on the brink of being forced out of the police. Then the murders began, in an uncanny echo of his first case.

As the death count grows, old records, and bodies, go missing. Caught in a turf war between the police and the coroner’s office, Ridpath is in a race against time. A race to save his career, his marriage, and innocent lives.

When a detective disappears everything is on the line. Can Ridpath save his colleague?

A nail-biting crime thriller, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham, Peter James and D. S. Butler.

COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN..... I have NOT read a book this gripping in a very long time...am ready to start the 4th + last of the Ridpath series!! I NEED MORE.....

Thank you.. I haven’t been into reading in a few years and I just decided to buy this because it was cheap and i like true crime. I absolutely loved it! I highly recommend this book. I couldn’t put this book down!❤️

Awesome, fun, and truly thrilling read!. Amazing story with an AMAZING ENDING!! Loved reading it so much I got the audiobook to “read” all day haha

Gory. Too gory

Terrible. Awful

Great suspense!. Great suspenseful writing, kept me reading till I got resolution!

Awesome book!. Great read from start to finish!

Where the truth lies. Good book starts slow but finished strong

Great read. I devoured this book. I could barely wait to get to the end. It was worth the read

Too gruesome. The parts with the murderer were too much. It was kind of disturbing to read.

Where the truth lies. Great book. What else could I say. Didnt figure out who did it a lot of twists and turns till the end. Can’t wait to read more of your books. Keep writing.

Where The Truth Lies. Great character! Ridpath is all too human and that is what makes him so interesting. Loved it!

Where the Truth Lies. A well written page turner of a crime novel. Held my interest until the final page.

It's great so far!. I'm not even ten pages in. This book is written so well. I can literally picture everything, as if I'm watching a movie. Update: 36% finished and I'm trying to understand why this book is 600 pages. Literally some chapters and scenes are completely unnecessary and do nothing for the plot.

Loved it!. I love how it gets straight to the point, keeps you on your toes for sure! Felt like a movie in my head

gripping. had me gripped all the way through, couldn’t put it down a thriller that just keeps you guessing

Enjoyable but with some errors. I would recommend this book to lovers of crime fiction as it's an enjoyable read. However must point out that several characters are mis-named, and also a date. Basic proof reading should have picked this up.

4.5* rounded up. This book was quick and easy to read, written in a ‘chatty’ style which I really liked. The story, over all, was very good but a couple of things did spoil it for me. There were unpleasant descriptions of torture and in PMs which were borderline acceptable to me but only because they were brief and there weren’t too many of them. I don’t think that they were necessary to the storyline. Without giving away any of the plot, there was a location near the end of book which seemed highly implausible to me and which was where the culprit made uncharacteristic mistakes leading to his/her downfall. So, it’s not a perfect book for me but I did enjoy it very much and finished it within two days, always a good sign!

A solid read.. A very good story that doesn’t reveal the twist, and quite a twist it was, until the last few pages. Well written and structured, a couple of editor errors with characters first or last name changing.

Where the truth lies. I couldn’t put this book down. I was invested in the characters. I want Ridpath to be well, I want his family back together. I was so sad when Sarah Castle died. I look forward to reading another book of MJ Lee. I have found a new author to follow.

100% recommended. Couldn’t put it down on the third book in the series now! Really well written with short bursting chapters that keep you reading page after page. Cant wait for the next one.

Brilliant books. Few errors in names but living within Greater Manchester these books are so relatable, but what little faith I had in Greater Manchester police is now non existent

Where The Truth Lied. Can’t remember when I last read a book. WOW couldn’t put it down . Gripping. Absolutely loved it & can’t wait to start next book. Read it in a day!

Where the Truth Lies. I’ve been looking for another author that would make me want to keep reading until I got to the end. This book definitely ticked all the boxes for a great book. I will be reading the other books in the series. Highly recommend it.

Highly recommend. Gripping…….I couldn’t put it down!

Riveting Ridpath. Riveting and unusual. Hooked early in. Ridpath is an idiot to himself and bery believable. Like many driven work-addicts - he even annoys me! Likeable and characterful. Really good plot with lots of different angles. Looking forward to the next one.

Great. I’ve never read this author before but I will definitely go for another. Believable and likeable characters and a punchy storyline

Where the truth likes. A very. very, good read. My only little gripe is, once again, the misuse of ‘me,. myself,I’ but it seems not a single writer these days can use the words correctly. Fortunately, there were few instances, and it didn’t spoil the overall quality of the composition.

Where the Truth Lies. Gruesome

Where he truth lies. Excellent read good story line

Where the Truth Lies. Apart from initially naming one character David the changing it to Tony for the rest of the book, not bad

Thoroughly enjoyed!. Gripping story, kept me guessing right to the end. Loved it! Onto book 2 now……

Good. Good reading and exciting

Loved it. Throughly engrossing from the very beginning.

Couldn’t put it down.. I got this on special and it was well worth it. Took me only a few days but if I had the time I would have read it in a day. Lots of twists and turns. Easy to read and has relatively short chapters so easy to have little tea breaks.

Easy read, if not a memorable one. British novelist who divides his time between Blighty and the Far East. Three series: one is set in 1930s Shanghai, another involving genealogical mysteries. This is a the first instalment of eight (number 9 is coming in early 2023) centred on Detective Inspector Ridpath in contemporary Manchester. Our boy is back from nine months sick leave. He’s mid-thirties and has been treated at the Christie Hospital (a famous cancer hospital in Manchester) for myeloma with a “new drug” (no mention of marrow transplant), and “given the all clear” (they’re clearly optimists at the Christie) to return to work. His missus isn’t happy. His old boss at CID claims to be pleased to have him back, but seconds him to the coroner’s service to “see how he goes.” The High Court has instructed the coroner to “look into” the case of a guy who has been in prison nine years for murder. An investigative journo, who happens to be the brother of the deceased, reckons the original police investigation was dodgy. Our boy was involved, tangentially, in that he was the patrol cop who collared the murderer (or is he?) after a traffic stop gone wrong back on the day. First things first. Exhume the body and do another autopsy. Oops. No body in the coffin. No paperwork at the funeral directors or the morgue either. Rather than a sinecure in a quiet backwater, the new job soon is a challenge to our boy’s investigational skills, one he embraces, further pissing off the trouble and strife. Meanwhile, more young women turn up dead with a similar M.O. to the original. (Parental advisory: Contains more graphic violence than some might consider necessary.) Yada, yada. Investigation proceeds. Pace increases. Resolution is achieved. Easy to read but there are plot divots, if not frank holes, aplenty, that stretch plausibility to breaking point as the narrative unfolds. I didn’t care much for many of the characters either. More than enough male chauvinism for most female readers, I imagine.

Great. Really well written and fast pace

Review title. Excellent story I throughly enjoyed reading it

Good read. Great storyline and no fluff to fill in the word count

Where the truth lies. Loved it !! Bring on the next Ridpath story

Couldn’t put it down.. I couldn’t put this book down, what a thriller and what a twist.Brilliant!! I’ve already bought the next book and now can’t wait for the next thrilling journey.
