The Rise of Magicks by Nora Roberts Book Summary

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Year One and Of Blood and Bone concludes her stunning new trilogy praised as “A match for end-of-the-world classics like Stephen King’s The Stand.”

After the sickness known as the Doom destroyed civilization, magick has become commonplace, and Fallon Swift has spent her young years learning its ways. Fallon cannot live in peace until she frees those who have been preyed upon by the government or the fanatical Purity Warriors, endlessly hunted or locked up in laboratories, brutalized for years on end. She is determined to save even those who have been complicit with this evil out of fear or weakness—if, indeed, they can be saved.

Strengthened by the bond she shares with her fellow warrior, Duncan, Fallon has already succeeded in rescuing countless shifters and elves and ordinary humans. Now she must help them heal—and rediscover the light and faith within themselves. For although from the time of her birth, she has been The One, she is still only one. And as she faces down an old nemesis, sets her sights on the enemy’s stronghold, and pursues her destiny—to finally restore the mystical shield that once protected them all—she will need an army behind her…

What a Finish to a Phenomenal Trilogy. I looked forward to the arrival of ‘Rise of the Magicks’ and was not disappointed. Nora Roberts did justice to the series with this book. It was highly entertaining and made me cry upon Mick’s death and the loss of Colin’s arm. I wasn’t expecting either of these events to happen. Ms. Roberts is profusely productive in her writing and her books. I thoroughly enjoyed this and the other two books in the series. I really liked the ending and the destruction of Petra thrilled me to no end! My eyes got heavy at early in the AM because I didn’t want to put the book down. Unfortunately, I had no choice and stopped reading. Thank you Ms. Roberts!

Too short. Not worth paying for because of how short it is - it has a lot of basic information you can find by searching it up real quick.

Where are you Nora?. I’m used tio reading thrillers from NR and loving them. This wasn’t one of them. It felt rushed, like she just wanted to finish it. Ugh. Disappointed.

Drags. Nora writes so well and I’m delighted with her shift on this new 3 book series. Although I mark this book with 3 stars, I would rate the previous 2 books as 5 stars. For me, the problem is that the majority of Book 3 is about battle plans and strategies. I get it - the One must overcome the Dark and that is not simple. But that’s kinda boring and perhaps the overarching 3 book storyline could have been thought through to allow more story in the final book. Some tired standards still in this series and was hoping that the shift away from romance would get rid of them. - Riding pillion - Hair pulled into a tail - You matter - Put your hands on me And why wasn’t there more development on the Merpeople? Or on her evil cousin? But overall, Norah is a terrific writer!

Don’t buy it. I’m sorry I did.

Fantastic. This final book of the series is incredible. I’ve read other reviews of people who didn’t like it and I’m baffled. It brought the series to completion in a very satisfactory way. I loved all three books

Book3. The book dragged

Disappointing-felt rushed. I agree with others who state this book felt rushed and wasn’t paced well. I kept waiting for more details and excitement during the battles and other events as in the first two books, but it never happened. Makes me wonder if a ghost writer was used for this one, because it just felt like the story was following an outline with no real heart put into the story. Petra was barely present and she was supposed to be the main antagonist. Still love Nora Roberts, but the wrap up to this trilogy was a huge disappointment for me, as the writing just wasn’t on par with the first two.

The Rise Of Magic. I love Nora Roberts books, she is one of my favorite. But I didn’t like this book at all, thought it was uninspiring and boring. The characters in the first book were great and the story entertaining. The second was good and I was looking forward to the last book but was so disappointed in the third book and will never reread it. It is probably my least favorite series because of this book.

The Rise of Magicks. Liked the first one. Didn’t like the last one.

Whole series is perfection. This ending to the series was so good I couldn’t put it down. After the second book I went to as many stores as I could to find this book and ended up finding it cheaper on the book store on my phone. Trust me. Read it. You won’t regret it.

Wow! Grand Finale!. Love this series, the characters, light over dark. . . despite the darkness, there was love and life. Another amazing trilogy. Going to be re-reading all three over vacation. A must read series!

A Painful Read. If you’re reading this, you’ve likely read the first two books. I wish I could recommend this, but it was a painful read. I pushed through and I’m done, feeling disappointment and sense of relief that I am now free to read better things.

Disappointed. The first and second books were amazing and my absolutely all time favorites. The ideas used is so unique and I absolutely loved this original story. The second book created a character I loved with so much depth and personality, and the second book really took the time and paced itself to really give a good effect. I loved it so much that I preordered the third book so I that I would have it right away when released. When I finally read it, I was so disappointed. The very first chapter is so rushed I couldn’t appreciate it. The whole story is so rushed in itself it feels shallow and not really in depth. The vibe it gives is like an amateur story and nothing like the the first 2 books. The ending was anticlimactic and the final showdown was confusing and dull. The main character seems too different and the writing is a little too dramatic in parts and not really detailed enough in others. Though still a great story overall, Nothing can really describe how disappointed I was with this ending of my favorite series and I feel like Nora kinda dropped the ball on this one.

The first book in the trilogy that I COULD put down. Love all things Nora Roberts. Love this trilogy. Loved the first 2 books. This one was so heavily anticipated. I waited MONTHS. Halfway through I was able to set it down and do other things (which is unusual for me when reading one of her books), so I felt like it dragged a little and just didn’t engage me like the first 2 did. With all of that said, I’ll still likely read it half a dozen more times and it’s still a good book.

Nora Roberts , the rise of magicks. Loved this one the most. All good but this one was the most hopeful.

Fantastic!. This trilogy was amazing! I would definitely recommend reading all three of these books.

Amazing. So good! Sad it’s only a trilogy! This is the new Harry Potter it just falls short due to only being three books :(

Nora Roberts The Rise of Magics. See my review of book One and Two of Trilogy.

Great series. The first book actually scared me and the next and the next. I could not even put it down. Nora Roberts is a great writer. Can’t wait for the next series!

Bad End, but worth reading.. The first two books of this series are phenomenal. They’re different then other books and she builds the characters really, really well. I remember finishing the first one a bemoaning having to wait a year for the next. Then after the second I was even more excited for the third. They were SO good! For this last book though, she did not develop the story like you would expect from a Nora Roberts book (of which I think I might have read nearly all of them. She is absolutely a favorite of mine). Throughout the whole book it felt rushed. At the end, I was discussing it with another Nora fan and we both agreed that it felt like this was supposed to be four books and after the second came out, for whatever reason, it was decided to condense the last “two” books into one to make it a trilogy. This is definitely worth reading because it does close up the first two absolutely amazing books, but I was disappointed.

The Rise of Magicks not as magical. I’ve been looking forward to the last book in this trilogy for so many months. I preordered it to make sure I had it as soon as it was out. Sadly, it was nowhere near as engaging as the first two. It felt rushed and as if so much information was left unsaid. It actually reminded me of watching a movie made from a popular book....always so much is left out to be able to fit into the allotted time. Anyway, Nora Roberts still is a phenomenal author....just not one of my favorite books.

“ pow to the wow” by Queen Fred. What an amazing story!!! It has everything you can think of in a masterpiece. It pulled at me from the very fist book. Is not a typical romance, is so much more than that. The power of love, compassion, strength, loyalty, friendship, family, good vrs bad, and my favourite, HOPE is all intertwined in our past, present and future of our current society and lives. It truly makes you stop while you’re reading and think “ wow, this is now in our society” The writing is exceptional and profound. This books had it all for me as a reader. I read all the trilogy in a week. My praise to Mrs. Roberts. What an amazing story!!!

Loved!. I couldn’t put the book down! Amazing finish to an unbelievable series ❤️

👎. In my opinion, this book is pretty poorly written. Very repetitive, dull and flat out boring. The first 2 were so amazing and absolutely captured your mind and soul, whereas this book pretty much murdered any connection I felt with the characters - I’m insanely disappointed in the author and in this book

Year one trilogy. I loved this trilogy. Thank you for sharing your talent!!

Worst Book in the Series. By far the worst book in the series, so incredibly drawn out for such an anticlimactic final scene. Very very boring

Sadly not that good. I enjoyed the series. The first book I loved. The second was alright …a bridge. Now the third – it was bad. It seemed it just kept going and going – and it was always the same over and over. I was really hoping for some sort of deviation from the expected. I will always be a Nora Roberts fan. But this series – not her best.
