Overture by Skye Warren Book Summary

Forbidden fruit never tasted this sweet…

“Swoon-worthy, forbidden, and sexy, Liam North is my new obsession.” – New York Times bestselling author Claire Contreras

The world knows Samantha Brooks as the violin prodigy. She guards her secret truth—the desire she harbors for her guardian.

Liam North got custody of her six years ago. She’s all grown up now, but he still treats her like a child. No matter how much he wants her.

No matter how bad he aches for one taste.

Her sweet overtures break down the ex-soldier’s defenses, but there’s more at stake than her body. Every touch, every kiss, every night. The closer she gets, the more exposed his darkest secret.

She’s one step away from finding out what happened the night she lost her family. One step away from leaving him forever.

“Overture is a beautiful composition of forbidden love and undeniable desire. Skye has crafted a gripping, sensual, and intense story that left me breathless. Get ready to be hooked!” – USA Today bestselling author Nikki Sloane

My Heart breaks for Liam North. Some consider Samantha Brooks a musical child prodigy. She just wants to turn eighteen and go on tour. Liam North has raised Samantha since he became her legal guardian 6 years ago. He always kept it professional between them considering he was so young himself to raise a practical stranger. However once she became an adult those lingering feelings he suppressed became harder to resist. Can they keep it how it was between them or will their true feeling be to hard to fight? This is the first book in this new series and I enjoyed it immensely! A delicious taboo treat! I hope you fall for Liam Roth like I did. Told in dual POV; ends in a cliffhanger

Man!!! I loved this story!!!. Well. I didn’t know what to really expect! This is a gently taboo storyline. A ward falling for her guardian. The guardian is head over heels for her but knows it’s not right. The angst in this mixed with the heat. Whew. L O V E D it!!! Ends on cliffhanger. Concerto out in May!!

Not worth buying. I am a usual reader of Skye Warren and her books. I have read almost all of the series she has put out and I thought this one would be just as great as the rest but I was sadly disappointed..... !!!!Spoiler alert!!!! This book is nothing like ‘The Pawn’ series so if you’re looking for something along those lines, you won’t find it here. ‘Overture’ was about a a guy named Liam North who gains custody of Samantha after her father dies when she’s young. Samantha is a violin prodigy and is going through the faze of growing up as a woman and struggling with falling in love with Liam. The book goes on and on about them not being able to be together because of this and drawls on about how she isn’t 18 yet so Liam doesn’t want to be with her not for this reason, but because he has personal trauma and doesn’t believe he can love. Almost every chapter goes on and on about them counting down until she’s 18 and when she finally gets to 18 it starts to sound like no we can’t be together because I just don’t know how to love. The entire book is confusing. He takes her virginity thinking it’s a dream and he fights her when she clearly wants to be with him. Maybe that’s how I’m taking this book, but it was just all over the place. Then there was the whole thing with the coach from the school molesting the guys soccer team and I thought this was going to be a plot substance but that whole thing got solved in like the next chapter just by Samantha asking Liam to help her friend Cody. Overall I would not recommend this book if you are a lover of skye warren’s other books. It was just lacking so much and I expected so much more. I will definitely not be preordering the next part in this series. 1 out of 5 stars.

Amazing!!!. No one writes dark, forbidden romance as well as Skye Warren. This book was amazing. Ends perfectly for the next installment. Plenty of slow burn sexual tension. Balanced with action and angst. Wonderfully written and plotted. A must read.

Loved it. Samantha and Liam had crazy hot chemistry between the two. I loved the dynamic. A bit of mystery and suspense with a lot of hotness thrown in was fantastic! I definitely wanted more and look forward to the next book!!

To be decided.... So frustrating to always have to wait for the endings. I so wish authors would write a full length book and let the readers decide if they are worth buying more instead of always leaving the readers on a cliff... I love many of Skye Warren’s books and didn’t even hesitate to buy this one but I expected an ending instead of another book coming out later. It seems like each book gets shorter and shorter, thus causing more and more sequels for one story. I was disappointed. I enjoy the story line and the main characters are great but I’m just frustrated with always having to purchase another book. I’d rather pay $10 for a good full-length novel than to be left hanging when I find a storyline I enjoy. Just my two cents...

3.5 Stars. Overture definitely pushed all my buttons. It gets you out of your comfort zone reading with this taboo forbidden romance. So many risky situations that you are not sure what will happen next. Did I think I would end up liking this story, at first I was uncertain. I love Skye Warren's writing. I was trying my hardest to get past about some circumstances that were part of the "forbidden romance" part. As the end neared, you start to uncover some truths. The why's and how's blend together with this forbidden melody. I enjoyed all the musical quotes/facts with the beginning of each chapter. It brings you closer for the love of music. I was intrigued enough at the end to see what will be coming with the second book. I really love Liam and Samantha. I just need to love them as a couple. I think that is where I will get to with the second book as they grow into different rolls.

Overture. Slow beginning that got better with time. Would like more adventures with alpha ex military security specialists.

One of Skye Warren’s best.... This is one of my favorite Skye Warren books to date. From the very beginning I fell in love with these beautifully drawn characters. As a reader you feel their emotions from pain to longing to desperation and every nuance in between. While the story focuses on the taboo love between young violin prodigy Samantha and her older guardian Liam, the other relationships kept drawing me back just as much. The upbringing of the Liam North and his brothers has shaped them into the men they are today. It was intriguing to watch each North brother's treatment of Samantha and how vastly different they were with her and in her presence. Samantha's relationships with her friends, and the relationships between the North employees are all worth examining, as well. While it's hard to imagine money in the staggering amounts that are thrown around in this book, it's easy to imagine the deception and secrets and push and pull between the North siblings and the Samantha and Liam. I ended the story holding my breath and dying because I couldn't binge straight into the next release of the series. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Overture. Not impressed! Characters unrealistic among other circumstances I give it a 1 1/2 stars

Enjoyed this overture!. Overture is just that - an introduction to the of the world & characters of Liam & Samantha. Theirs is a forbidden love as they are guardian/ward with an age difference, so if that does not appeal to you then you might not like this book. But I love a good forbidden relationship! The author created Liam & Samantha with a rich history & sizzling chemistry that made me root for them & feel for them both. The author weaved a tale of espionage, secrets, love with a twist ending that left me wanting to have the next book now!

Love it!. Overture is a forbidden story of Samantha and her guardian, Liam. She is a musical child prodigy when Liam took her in when her father mysteriously died. Samantha has questions that only Liam can answer. The story is sexy, emotional and so good. I love the little musical tidbits before each chapter. Another brilliant story from Skye Warren. Review copy was received for a honest opinion.

Good, Mellow Read. Let me start by saying: If you came here straight from “Wanderlust”, this isn’t the passionate, dangerous Hunter you’re looking for. (He will always be my measure for rugged, dangerous, fictional men.) However, if you liked Kip from “Love The Way You Lie”, then Liam North is your guy. Liam is strong, brooding & elusive in the same way. This wasn’t just a story about two people exploring a taboo relationship with sex in every other chapter. Nothing was hotter than the fact that they couldn’t do the deed. (Can we get an AMEN for when he got rough with the reporter because he’s a great man beast with desires too volatile for the person he really wants to bang???) My only problem with the story is that sometimes it felt slow because of too much internal dialoguing. Samantha & Liam were always fighting themselves about the same thing, just said in different ways with different words. It got a little repetitive. Otherwise, the book came together really well at the end, & I can’t wait to read “Concerto”.

Tortured characters. Could not relate to this May December

Interesting Cliffhanger. Skye Warren is a new author to me, no idea why that is though. I had no idea that Overture ends on a cliff hanger so be prepared. I was a little hesitant about this book at first as I am not too keen on stories where the age difference is substantial; however, I went in to Overture with an open mind. This was a book that despite my initial reservations I enjoyed. Liam North is a man who struggles over the feelings he has for his ward Samantha Brooks, a violin prodigy. There was plenty to tug at the heart strings in this story, as Liam and Samantha struggle with their feelings and attraction. Both Liam and Samanyja struggle with their demons from the past and it is this struggle that forms the basis for this story. Liam will do anything to protect Samantha from the danger if hidden enemies. They both feel the need to protect one another not only from others but from each other. There were some surprising twists and turns in Overture and I am interested to see what happens in the next book. Will Samantha find the answers that she desperately seeks? I can’t wait to find out.

Wonderful characters. 4.5 Stars for Overture which book 1 in the new North Security Series from Skye Warren. Thi book is a beautifully written taboo romance with the perfect mix of love and angst. Liam North never expected to become Samantha’s guardian, he never expected to suddenly be responsible for a teenage girl. Samantha was a child prodigy with the violin when she came to live with Liam but now she becoming a woman and she does everything in her power to make Liam see that she is not the child he still sees her as....... Liam may have taken Sam in as a teenager but most of this story is written from when Sam reaches 17 well nearly 18 to be exact, this is a story about two very complex people fighting their emotions and their feelings, it’s about secrets but most importantly it’s above love. This book touched me on every level, it touched my heart as I watched this couple try to find happiness whilst struggling because society says they should never have fallen in love . Looking forward to what’s next in this series because if this book is anything to go by it will certainly be a hit for this very talented author.

Skip past this one. Amateurishly written. The language is aggressive and crude and counteracts any attempt at romance development. Women reading romance want to root for the couple to succeed. It’s hard to do that when you have sequences that read like rape. Try reading some big name romance authors to get the style right.

187 pages NOT 350. 187 pages is too short for a book, however it was an engaging page turner just wish the characters had a bit more depth to them
