Fairly entertaining…. I bought and read the book after watching the television show recently. There were a number of differences… almost like two different stories. The book was pretty well written, but a bit light on the plot and character development. Giving it a three out of four rating.

The Old Man. Brilliant and full of capabilities, this is one old man that you should not underestimate. His ability to reel you in and make you fall in love is an act of kindness. I hope there are sequels so I can continue the romance.

Good read. Very good book, especially for a first novel. I began reading the book after watching the first two episodes of the TV series based on the book. Overall, it was engaging, interesting, and reasonably believable. Some of the dates seemed off to me but not so much that it distracted from the books enjoyment.

Predictable, poorly written and pathetic plot points. I somehow thought this would be an interesting read since they were making a series out of it. I was sadly mistaken. The writing is choppy, has no lyrical feel, and the storytelling is mechanical. Plot dead ends abound, and the “big reveal” about the main character’s love interest is seriously shallow, illogical and, well, just plain bad. This book was a total waste of my time.

Great story. Unique story, couldn’t put the book down. Realistic example of how the government can waste resources for the wrong reasons . This is a great example of the government picking wrong people to partner with.

The Old Man. I greatly enjoyed reading this book and could not put it down! The old man and Julian were my favorite characters. I loved reading about US military intelligence operations. I did not like the title or the idea of calling him the old man, as it seemed disrespectful of a decorated Vietnam war veteran. I did not like the direction Zoe’s character took either. Her real story was really ridiculous. Her son was also an entitled brat. Loved the ending. Have a lot of respect for US military. Two incidents in the book reinforce the dangers of hitchhiking - whether in Washington state or Libya!

Very entertaining. I really enjoyed this book. I definitely see why they made a show from it. I will be looking at other books from this author next.
