So good!. I loved Carlys first book! I thought I may miss Rose and friends but you fall in love with all new characters! Definitely excited to see what else happens in Drum and in Carlys life.

What a first book in a series.. The first book in a series is a make or break situation. This first book was nothing short of greatness. After Carly leaves Hennryetta Arkansas after finding her “ new family”, she breaks down in Drum,TN. If she thought her life was complicated after running away from her fiancé and father it’s about to get even more complicated. After witnessing a murder, Carly tries to take any suspicion off herself while investigating who could have killed a young boy. Around every new clue danger awaits, all while trying to keep her feelings for Wyatt at bay. This book is 100% a hit. Loved all the characters and the story that Denise brought to her readers.

Five stars for Carly!. I am hooked and impatiently waiting for more of Carly’s adventures

Suspenseful. Such a great book, I love reading about such a strong woman dealing with such scary and powerful men. I imagine myself in Carly’s boots and hope I’d be as strong and quick on my toes as she is. So suspenseful as you have so many players and the mystery of finding out who did what!

Finished reading less than a week! 💙. I really enjoyed reading and appreciate the style of writing; such a sweet spot! It made feel like I was their w/all the characters.

Love the new series. Denise Grover Swank continues the story of Carly that began in her Rose Gardner series. You don’t have to read the former to follow and enjoy this novel. I love the way DGS creates characters you will love or hate...and will love her story plots which drop clues of you pick them up as she keeps you up reading this book because you just can’t stop! I totally recommend this first book in a new series. As well as recommend the Rose Gardner and Neely Kate series which this spins off of. Warning: her books are addictive!

Awesome is all I can say... This book is so good. If you love a good “who done it?” Book you need to purchase this. I was flipping through pages faster than ever. Such a good story line and loved getting to know all those characters! Mystery/love story I mean who doesn’t love that? You will feel as if you are standing there in this book with these people. I loved it!!

Amazing and Captivating. I never thought I would love a character as much as Rose or want to follow anyones outside story, but Carly's story is amazing. she has strength like Rose, yet it is her own strength and personality, along with all the other characters in this book that pull you in. I HOPE there are more than three books in Carly's story because I could follow her story, like Rose's, for a long time. Carly herself, the other people, the town of Drum and all its mystery, and an exciting romance make for such a great read! Thank you so much Denise Grover Swank for writing these incredible stories. I SO look forward to the next book coming out.

Great New Series!. This is the first book in the spin off from the Rose Gardner series. It was great to watch Carly develop throughout the book. We see her kindness shine through in this book. On the run from from a wealthy criminal she finds herself stuck in the middle of a murder investigation in the small town of Drum, TN. The story line and s fast paced and full of twists and turns. A great debut in the series. Congrats on another well written book Denise Grover Swank!

Must read. What a great new series. This is going to be one of my favorites, I can tell already. It kept me wanting to keep reading til I was done. Didn’t even want to take a break. Denise has written a winner again. So grab you a copy and be with the cool kids 😁

A cry in the dark. Denise is amazing! She has the ability to make you fall in love with the characters without you even realizing it’s happening! Looking forward to the next book as Carly’s story continues.

Hang on to your socks!. I am so excited about this series. I’ll have to admit, I wasn’t expecting this to be as good as the Rose Gardener books, because I love them so much! But, the Carly series is just as good and maybe even better because I’ve got a fresh new story line to alternate between Rose! Denise is brilliant and I can’t wait to see what kind of adventure the next book holds!

Carly is not just a minor character any more!. This is a great start to another fun series by my favorite author. Great way to escape from the realities of our world. This book has a great suspenseful storyline and characters that are fun to get to know. I love how it kept me guessing but always rooting for the heroine.

Not my favorite. I wish I could like it, but I thought it was boring.

Don’t Read This. I would give this zero stars if I could. It’s rushed from the beginning and there is zero character development. The “romance” is a forced after thought. The whole book feels forced. I can’t believe it had so many high reviews, because this is easily one of the worst books I’ve read in the last 5 years. And I’ve read some crappy books. Thank God I only wasted $.99. Save yourself time and money, and get a book written by literally anyone else. It will be better.

Good. Interesting and fun. The story was great, but it has several parts. I only read this one and had enough. Some of the books are no longer available so what’s the point? If the story goes into separate books, have them all available.

A Cry is the Dark. Once again Denise has me falling in love with another set of characters. I always hate finishing her books because there is a void in my life until there is a new book. It is fun and exciting to follow Carly into the town of Drum.

I usually hate “continuation characters”. I was hesitant to jump into the new continuation series but spent my summer devouring all things Rose and Neely Kate, so decided to give the new series a go. I love DGS’s character development and story telling abilities. But am tired of series based on other characters that I’m not fully invested in. I read several other of her series after reading the Rose/Neely Kate books, and though I enjoyed them, I felt they did not give me that same have to read the next now moment on the same level as Rose. I feel Carly’s story is set up to do just that! I do love all things by Grover-Swank but Rose, Neely and now Carly are my favorites. ❤️

A Cry in the Dark. First time reading this author. It wasn’t an edge of your seat mystery/story. It was just OK.

Wow. I was so impressed with this book! Having read a few of Denise’s other series, I didn’t think I would love this character as much as I did in her own series. I am so happy I was wrong. This book was great and stood out on its own. I can’t wait to find out more about the characters of Drum! Carly felt at home and may finally find the family she never had. It was instant love with these characters and places for me. I didn’t expect the ending at all. I can’t wait for more.

The character development along with all the twists and turns will keep you guessing and questioning to the very end and beyond. I can't wait for the next book

Watch out!. I thought this book would not get me, but it did! I couldn’t put my book down and I HAD to finish it less than a week (late Saturday night to lunch hour Monday). Mind you I have a family I need to take care of as well. I loved how I was taken away to a new place 😍 once again, thank you Denise! I can’t wait to go back to Drum.
