The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver Book Summary

Two lives. Two loves. One impossible choice. From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Reese’s Book Club Pick One Day in December . . .

“I read The Two Lives of Lydia Bird in a single sitting. What a beautiful, emotional gift Josie Silver has given us.”—Jodi Picoult

Written with Josie Silver’s trademark warmth and wit, The Two Lives of Lydia Bird is a powerful and thrilling love story about the what-ifs that arise at life’s crossroads, and what happens when one woman is given a miraculous chance to answer them.

Lydia and Freddie. Freddie and Lydia. They’d been together for more than a decade and Lydia thought their love was indestructible. But she was wrong. On Lydia’s twenty-eighth birthday, Freddie died in a car accident.

So now it’s just Lydia, and all she wants is to hide indoors and sob until her eyes fall out. But Lydia knows that Freddie would want her to try to live fully, happily, even without him. So, enlisting the help of his best friend, Jonah, and her sister, Elle, she takes her first tentative steps into the world, open to life—and perhaps even love—again.

But then something inexplicable happens that gives her another chance at her old life with Freddie. A life where none of the tragic events of the past few months have happened.

Lydia is pulled again and again through the doorway to her past, living two lives, impossibly, at once. But there’s an emotional toll to returning to a world where Freddie, alive, still owns her heart. Because there’s someone in her new life, her real life, who wants her to stay.

Not a bad read. I’ve read books with better writing and stronger plots in my day but this is a decent story to take up if you’re in the mood for something light and (generally) feel-good.

Beautiful story of love. Loved the way the ending is written. Thank you for this story of love, loss and love gained.

2.5. Great writing. The book seemed to long and lost my interest at times. But overall it was a great story.

Better than her first!. I loved One Day in December, but this one was even better. The heartbreak of losing someone you love, is hard to articulate. But Ms. Silver does an outstanding job of communicating the ups and downs and back and forth of the grieving process. Well done!!! I loved the side adventure Lydia takes on her own. Beautiful addition to the story.

Fantastic.. I felt like I was living through Lydia’s grief, transformation, acceptance, and moving forward. A beautifully tender story with characters you’ll fall in love with. A story about sisters, mothers and daughters, tragic love, and new beginnings. Thank you for this wonderful read.

The two lives of Lydia bird. It took some time to get into this book. The first 20% was so boring, I nearly gave up. It was pretty bizarre, for me and quite tedious. Then is got interesting, at least the awake parts of the book. I mostly skipped the sleeping parts, too strange. I’d rate the awake parts a 5 andtge asleep parts a 1. Not a great book, but not bad.

painfully amazing. Do not mistake this book as just a romance. It’s full grief, finding hope, relying on family, and even fantasy. I don’t know how Josie Silver guides emotions so smoothly through out this book. I’ve also never seen a writer make a family dynamic so honestly and perfect. Josie Silver has this incredible gift of making you feel like you are right in the room as the story takes place. You feel a connection to every character. The ending of the book had me in tears. I had such a huge realization on how I could find hope and happiness again even if I do go through something so heartbreaking.

Fantastic read!. This book has everything... romance, heartbreak, self discovery. I don’t know how Josie fit so many emotions into one story but I’m happy that she did. With her words she paints a picture so deep that you feel it way down in your heart and soul. Your toes can’t help but curl with anticipation of each turning page. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anybody who’s ever felt broken and needs to believe in hope again.

Heart achingly beautiful. Easily my favorite book that I’ve ever read. I don’t have the words to describe how much this book will fill your heart. Read it!!!!

The Two Lives of Lydia Bird. I thoroughly enjoyed Josie Silver’s debut novel, One Day in December, but with this one she has earned her place on my automatic-buy list of authors for her future endeavors. I have highlighted scores of passages in this story as I found Silver’s way with words simply profound and poignant throughout. This is a story about life-long love, life-long friendships, family bonds and grief. Silver writes about these things as if she’s lived them, knows them intimately and invites the reader to experience them viscerally. She takes us through the highs of young love that will seemingly last forever, through the heartbreak and loneliness of gut-wrenching loss, and finally to the epiphany that is growth and self-discovery. Silver so expertly constructs Lydia’s world that we are there celebrating with her, crying with her, lending a shoulder to her and ultimately cheering her on. And while yes, Silver writes a fantastic love story, her family/friend storylines are just as involving and important (as they were in her debut novel). The Bird women are strong and resilient in their bond, and the supporting cast of friends/acquaintances all play crucial roles in Lydia’s life. At its core, this is a story about losing one’s self to grief, about clawing one’s way through to the dawning of a new life and recognizing the very real strength and courage that that takes. Highly recommend. Much thanks to #NetGalley, #PenguinRandomHouse and #BallantineBooks for providing me the ARC. The opinions are strictly my own.

I loved this book. For me this was a page turner. I truly enjoyed this story so much and was thoroughly surprised by the ending.

Beautiful. Wonderful love story through the pains of life...
