Realm of Knights by Jennifer Anne Davis Book Summary

Reid has spent her whole life pretending to be a man so she can inherit her father’s estate, but when a chance encounter threatens to expose her lie, she is forced to risk everything.

In the kingdom of Marsden, women are subservient to men and land can only pass from father to son. So when Reid Ellington is born, the fifth daughter to one of the wealthiest landholders in the kingdom, it’s announced that Reid is a boy.

Eighteen years later, Reid struggles to conceal the fact she’s actually a young woman. Every day, her secret becomes harder to keep. When one of Marsden’s princes sees her sparring with a sword, she is forced to accept his offer and lead her father’s soldiers to the border. Along the way, she discovers a covert organization within the army known as the Knights of the Realm. If Reid wants to save her family from being arrested for treason and robbed of their inheritance, she will have to join the Knights and become a weapon for the crown.

To protect her family, Reid must fight like a man. To do that, she’ll need the courage of a woman.

I loved it!. It was a really good book! I can’t wait to get money and read the next one!!!!

Snooze fest. Don’t read the entire series nothing exciting happens at all. The main characters kiss and that’s it that’s three books for you. If you want sexy romance this is not for you. Also if you like a good plot this is also not for you.

Too fast. The author has a great idea that she is in too big of a hurry to write. Just because its a young adult book doesn't mean it can't be in depth with character development. Somewhere between this offering and george rr martin would have made for a great novel, not just a good one.

1.5/5 stars.. I did receive this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. . The Realm of Knights is a story about a girl named Reid who disguised herself as a boy. Reid was pronounced as a boy at birth by her father so that Reid would be able receive the heir of the estate (only boys can receive the heir). Reid is the last daughter of five and now has to live her life as a boy in public only really. As Reid matures into a woman, she struggles with keeping her true identity a secret because she no longer feels comfortable as a boy anymore. We see Reid also struggle with feeling like it is her duty to protect her family from any harm that may come their way. To help protect her family, Reid ends up joining an army known as the Knights of the Realm where she undergoes particular tasks. To put simply. 😁 . Sadly, I did not find myself enjoying this story. It was not meant for me and there are people out there who might enjoy this book better than I did. I didn’t enjoy this book because I ultimately could not connect or engage with the story whatsoever and even the characters. The writing was bland which left the plot to be boring and characters to be very basic. The writing was a little too simple and not enough richness that I was looking for. The writing was lacking descriptions of things like the world and the characters. There was absolutely no world building or character development. I just kept wanting so much more from the author’s writing, but it just never really came out and “wowed” me. I was left bored for the most part of the story. Then, there was romance which I wasn’t expecting. And not at all in a good way. The love interest was random and there wasn’t nothing leading up to it. It was too sudden and just....weird. . I truly did like the concept of this story and the medieval time period that this novel took place in. However, the writing just ruined this book for me completely. By no means is this book bad, I think it wasn’t for me and I what I look for in an exceptional novel.

Just marvelous. Everything from the characters to the storyline was just wonderful and well thought out, I highly recommend it

Silly, mysterious, and SUSPENSE!!!!. Haha it’s overall a decent read and I will definitely be continuing the series. Tbh not realistic at all but whatever it’s just a book…well kinda, the mc doesn’t have much experience but suddenly she’s good at almost

Very well written. I read the reviews prior to downloading this book and went into it expecting the book to be poorly written or not well thought out. That, however, was a terrible assumption. This book is very well written. The characters and world are very well developed and remain consistent throughout. Although this story may be classified as YA, the writing isn’t dumbed down or immature in any sense. There certainly is a strong morality possessed by the main character, but this clear sense of right and wrong is the only true YA push you feel throughout the book. I very rarely purchase sequels, but I have every intention of finishing this series! The author did a fantastic job and I can’t wait to see how this ends!

Knights of the Realm. Assume page turner

Not flushed out. The story left me wanting for more. There was not much world building or character development. I was not invested in the plot nor really cared about the characters. Everything was just so superficial. The world and characters didn’t feel flushed out, and scenes often ended abruptly. I found that at times, I had not sense of how much time has passed between scenes, but I wasn’t compelled to go back and reread. The writing in this book also felt like a prime example of “show don’t tell”. Every major plot point or setting detail was told either through the main character’s internal monologue or through dialogue. Even character emotions were divulged this way. The character relationships were also... awkward. There were som friendship I had a hard time believing we’re genuine. Once I started feeling that I sort of understood a character, they’d come out and do a 180 in the next scene. Very inconsistent portrayal. The romance also came out of nowhere and just made me feel so uncomfortable. There really weren’t any characters or relationships I was rooting for here. This book was listed under science fiction and fantasy, so I assumed it was adult fiction. It wasn’t until later that I saw it was doubly listed as YA. Ultimately, I find this book lacking, and it really did not appeal to me. However, I understand I’m not its target audience, so recommend for kids ages 12-15.

A realistic and interesting story. The main character is placed into an intriguing scenario that is able to explore the situation and experiences of women in different locations. It will be interesting to read how these contrasts develop.

Realm of knights. Amazing!!!! I had to put the book down for a while to calm down, I got so invested in the world of Reid that even I was feeling angry about king Eldon.

Really good. Couldnt stop reading, really good.

Thrilling. I was hooked from start till end. Can’t wait to read the next one. Twists and turns at every corner.

Brilliant. With believable characters, interesting storyline and loads of drama, I was highly entertained from beginning to end. Can’t wait to read more in this series. I thought it was brilliant.

Average. I am a big fan of this author, but was sorely disappointed by this book. The beginning and middle seemed to drag on and then BAM, you get hit with a surprise at the end. Will not be buying anymore of this series.
