Fighting for what’s yours. Wow, this book was so good. It starts out as any normal day in the life of the average person. Shopping to do. It’s close to Christmas and Marin has a few gifts left to buy. With her hands full, she tries to hang onto her son, Sebastian’s hand, but he will stay close. He knows they are getting a giant lollipop next. Her phone chimes and it’s her husband. The next thing she knows, her son is gone. After freaking out and alerting security, they watch some security footage of her son walking out of the market place , lollipop in hand and Santa holding the other hand. This sets the course for the beginning of depression. But as she falls deeper into despair, things with her husband aren’t as they seem. Marin will have to snap out of it if she wants to keep him. This was an intense ride. Oh boy, I could hardly hang on. I loved how it all ended. That made it even better. I also like how it was written like someone looking in telling the story of Marin and her surroundings.

Another wild ride from Hillier. Little Secrets is another masterpiece from Jennifer Hillier. It’s described as a domestic suspense tale or a psychological thriller, but it’s so much more. As with all of Hillier’s books, it’s a fast-paced, heart-pounding, pulse-racing story that reveals something you didn’t expect on every page, which means you can’t stop turning pages and once you pick it up you can’t put it down. The worst day of Marin Machado’s life happened almost a year and a half ago. Her four-year old son Sebastian was kidnapped from Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Of course she blames herself: it was the holiday, busy, crowded, Seb was whining for candy, she was harried, looking for gifts and looking at her phone. She and her husband took all measures to try and find Seb, but postings, newspaper ads, offer of rewards, nothing worked and Seb is gone. And the perfect life, perfect marriage, perfect careers, perfect family is gone. Marin can’t move on although everyone, tells her to do so, and she hires a private investigator to pick up where the police left off, gave up in her estimation. And the investigator has news. But not the news Marin wants or expects. Derek, her beloved husband of 20 years, is having an affair. With a much younger woman. Talk about betrayal, the final straw, the thing she just can’t deal with. But maybe she can. She is impotent to do anything about Seb’s disappearance, but she’s not powerless to do something about this. Despair turns to rage. She will get rid of that woman. She’s not going to lose everything. So she sets things in motion. And we’re off. To say much more would spoil the story. Nothing, nothing, nothing is certain. Just when you think you’ve found that one person that can be trusted or that one scenario that is true, an aha moment pops up and all those little hints you missed fall into place and you wonder why you didn’t see it. Now you know. But then it happens again – and again. Until you can hardly bear the suspense. Little Secrets is a wild ride. Strong plot, fast pace, riveting characters, a flood of emotions. You’ll feel Marin’s hurt and betrayal, Derek’s helplessness and hopelessness, Marin’s friend Sal’s frustration and Derek’s lover Kenzie’s ambition and hope. I received an advance copy of Little Secrets from the author via NetGalley. All opinions are my own. I recommend this and anything author Jennifer Hillier writes with hesitation.

Thriller meets true crime. Honestly I’m mad at myself for back burning this book on my TBR! This book has been sitting in my library for at least over a year now and finally I made myself pick it up. I should have read this so much sooner! Finally a thriller novel that feels like it could be real life. I love that this felt like a real true crime story, but still maintained plenty of plot twists and surprises that you look for in the thriller genre. One thing I loved about this book is that not one character was completely lovable or perfect. This novel had a sense of vulnerability to it that I genuinely appreciated. Loved this one!!

Twists and Turns. This book! So many twists and turns. I could NOT put this down! Darkness with a glimmer of hope. So good. Never saw the ending coming.

No Mystery Here. This author made the “mystery” of who kidnapped her son way too obvious. I figured it out a quarter of the way through and skipped to the end to confirm my suspicions. Also all of the characters were very unlikable and unrealistic.

Great book with surprise twists. I can usually figure out a plot before it’s obvious but this one surprised me. Great book!!

Mission accomplished. This book easily made its way into the top three that I’ve read this year. I was intrigued from the first chapter and I was captivated, outraged, and recovering from multiple gut punches through every page that followed. And, yes, of course, I cried. Hillier accomplished so many feats in this book with her perfectly executed twists and turns. I can’t recommend this thriller enough.

Page turner. This book kept my interest from the very beginning. Each chapter was interesting and left you wanting more.

One word... wow!. I've been reading mystery/thriller books religiously for over 5 years and this is the first time I bother to leave a review. This book is an absolute gem deserves to be read by everyone! I finished the book in ONE day (over 600 pages). I just couldn't put the book down. There just isn't ONE dull moment in any of the pages. Make sure you read it if you can!

Roller coaster ride of emotions!!!. I could not put this book down! It literally was like a roller coaster. Started off with the uphill , then the down, BUT WAIT there’s the freaking loop!!!!! Thank you so much for this wonderful and thrilling read !

A total page turner!. I loved this book! It had me from the beginning, all the way to the end. The Author did a great job with all the twists and turns, beautifully wrapping it up at the end.

Couldn’t put it down!. I could not put this book down! I found myself putting everything aside that I needed to do just to read. It’s the kind of story you stay up late for.

Super bad. So much of this book was pointless and you’ll guess the bad guy by chapter 3. 🙄 Snore

Great thriller. Overall a good book with plenty of twists and turns and a really shocking, bittersweet ending. I did like the artists writing style and well rounded characters. However, I did get lost occasionally and would have to go reread past chapters to remind myself of the connections that were being made. I also didn’t like that many of the main characters were described as being super attractive because that was a bit unrelatable and dreamy LOL. Even so, the personality flaws did kind of even it out I guess. Those were the only things I disliked. However, it was a great read and as heart wrenching as it was, it felt very human with complicated emotions that were so well conveyed. I like books that make me feel something and make me think critically about what I would do in a given situation and this really did the job. I definitely recommend.

Little Secrets-Spoiler Alert. I loved reading this book, although it was difficult to read at times. It reminds me of the incredible sadness I felt after watching The Godfather : the moral of the story is: avoid crime and criminals or prepare to face the consequences, which are always disastrous! Was surprised that I lumped Marin and JR together at the end - both consumed by greed and without conscience or morals. Even Julian asked Marin why not a divorce instead of murder! The barber diva was so shallow and obsessed with image and wealth and not that different from Kenzie, a victim of the devious JR, who used, manipulated, abused, and murdered people.

Great Read!!!. Easy read that surprised me! I loved it!!!

Unputdownable!!. This book grabbed my attention from the start. The little twists and turns brought me to a jaw-dropping climax that kept me engaged until the final period. Can’t wait to see what else I might find in her novels!

Suspenseful Read. Hillier’s writing is exceptional. This book kept me thoroughly engaged and wanting more. I cannot wait to read her other books.

Great Read!. One of the best I’ve read in this genre for a bit! This is the first Jennifer Hillier book I’ve read, but it won’t be the last. Her style reminds me of Karin Slaughter, in that they both are able to find just the right words to succinctly bring characters to life and weave an interesting storyline. I’m not sure how to explain it, but it’s like words are chosen so perfectly that a simple sentence speaks volumes. I hope Jennifer’s other books are just as entertaining!

Awesome!. A can’t-put-it-down thriller! I have to admit though, as a new mom this book scared the crap out of me and made me hold my son extra tight! And even though I guessed the ending, there were still enough twists and surprises to make it so good! (Terrible title though—how unoriginal)
