The Bend in Redwood Road by Danielle Stewart Book Summary

Most days it’s manageable. No more than a quiet wondering around the edges of her mind.

What has become of the baby she left behind?

Smiling through the pain and suffering in silence, Leslie Laudon marches forward. Embracing the life skillfully designed by her husband Paul. Living right could be penance for an impossible choice made with an uneasy heart. Dutiful and anchoring, Leslie poured herself into her other children. Nurturing them through infancy, protecting them as toddlers, guiding them as teens. As her youngest child heads off to college with her suitcases and coordinating dorm room accessories, so goes Leslie’s identity. The chaotic life of a busy working mother threatens to become dangerously quiet. Quiet enough to hear the voices she’s tried to silence for decades.

Gwen Fox was adopted by two perfect people. Noel and Millie have always treated her the same as their two biological sons. Her parents love is strong and unwavering, yet a soul-deep ache still lingers. Plagued by an unnamed, hard to explain, longing Gwen could never shake.

Riddled with doubt and dragged down by the undertow of unanswered questions, Leslie and Gwen both find their lives suddenly upended. One seeks the truth about the day she was born. The other seeks herself, the woman she was before motherhood. Before she made a choice to leave a piece of her heart lying asleep in the hospital nursery.

In this complex journey for answers, blame is abundant. Guilt is thick enough to choke on. Marriages are brought to the brink of disaster. As the ripples of the past vibrate through their lives, Gwen and Leslie realize there is no turning back. What they have put into motion cannot be stopped. The road toward the truth will be littered with casualties.

The Bend in Redwood Road. This is absolutely a fantastic story on so many levels. It definitely tugs at one’s heartstrings. The author did a masterful job of showing the complexities of life and the struggles people have.

The Bend in Redwood Road. Good story. Lots of love and warmth.

The Bend in Redwood Road. Enjoyed this book very much.

The Bend in Redwood Road. I loved it. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.

Awesome. This is my favorite book this far thank you Danielle Stewart.

The Bend In Redwood Rd. I loved this story about mother and daughter finding each other. Heartwarming, good reading.

Bend in the Redwood Road. Loved this book and can’t wait to continue the story in the next one!

The Bend in Redwood Road. I loved it. This is a well written book and what a great story.

The Bend in Redwood Road. I loved this book! I could not put it down, so I immediately bought the next one! I did end up buying all of the rest of the books, but the last three just rambled.. especially the last two. It seemed as though the author was tired of it. I felt like she could have added a bit more to the second or third books and tied up all the loose ends of the stories! I’ll be very careful of her series from now on!

The Bend in Redwood Road.. I liked the characterization, the family situations and the relationships between friends. It seemed a. It long at times. It I had to stay with it to discover the resolution

The Bend in Redwood Road. I read this book a few years ago and really liked it. Good job. G

A realistic plot & characters that are all too real. I devoured this book, simply couldn’t put it down. The author gave us very human characters, not perfect, but warts & all. They are created as realistic flawed people just doing the best they can & making mistakes as they navigate life. A wonderful book & as soon as I finished it, I purchased the 2nd book in the series. I’m not ready to let go of these people.

Loved this story. This book brought me back to the familiar writing style of her first novel but with the depth of someone who's been writing for years. I could see the growth in this story from the Prologue to the very last page. The first meeting of the main character Gwen had me feeling all the emotions she was going through. It was like I was sitting next to her. It was tough to put down. I won't give any spoilers but if you love Danielle's ability to give you a twist you didn't expect, then you won't be disappointed with this book. She found a way to also bring a level of emotion to the book that I could feel through the pages. The tears were building so many times as I read but she also didn't leave out her sense of humor.

The bend in redwood road. Real and honest. Loved it and couldn’t wait to read book 2!

Bend in redwood road. Excellent read. Couldn’t put it down. You portrayed all the emotions, feeling, fears, and questions about reasons why people would consider adoption. Even some I never thought about. What an insight. You put us (the reader) in Gwen shoes. Again excellent. Thank you.

The Bend In Redwood Road. Fantastic rainy day read. Though the plot was somewhat presumable and the most climatic portions were semi predictable, this book is smoothly written and one you won’t put down. Being the daughter of a father who was adopted, the characters were incredibly real and relatable. Will continue to follow this series.

Engrossing. A very good book .Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Already set to start on book 2. This is a new author for me and I will look forward to her other series and books. It was like “reading “ a movie or tv series. Great relatable characters.

I liked it. Pretty good

The Bend in Redwood Road. Beautifully written intense life story. You easily fall into the emotion and pain in two families going through very real situations, making and living with intense choices.

Great Story. This is a story anyone can relate to. Full of string female characters. The storyline pulls you in and you don’t want to put it down. Definitely a chick book.

Extraordinary women making tough decisions. A truly impressive account of a 25 yr old who decides to find her biological mother while trying gallantly to avoid hurting her loving parents who raised her. The chapters go back and forth showing the struggles that Leslie, the biological parent went through in giving up her daughter and the challenging journey that Gwen must take in finding her. Author Danielle Stewart does a magnificent job of showing the depth within each character. For some women controlled by manipulative insensitive men, it takes time to see the light. As a couple’s counselor for over 30 yrs, I try to help women eXpressions themselves and follow their dreams instead of submerging their identities in pleasing a dictatorial controlling spouse. You will hang on every word wondering if resolution will be possible. Can’t wait to find out more. You will not be disappointed if you take a journey around the bend in redwood road.

Poignant and moving. I have been a fan of Danielle Stewart for awhile now, I have read several of her books. This one did not disappoint. Gwen is an adopted daughter who decides to look for her biological family... Leslie is the mother who tried to give her daughter a better life by putting her up for adoration. The story tells of both women, and how their lives are affected by choices of the other. I found myself wanting them to hurry and find each other if they could, but every detail is so important that I had to make myself slow down so I wouldn’t miss a thing. I loved Gwen and Leslie, they both found strength from loved ones to help them through. Can’t wait for the next book!

The Bend in Redwood Road. Wow! Great book wish it didn’t end. Would like to know what happened next in their lives. Very good read. Thanks!

Awesome!!. This is out of my usual reads, as I mostly stick to historical romance. I am so glad I needed that break and picked this book! It was refreshing! At first I wasn’t sure about the skipping back and forth between women in the story but when I got used to it, it turned out fine. The writer was gifted and the characters came alive! She is good and I will read her books again!

What Now?. Faced with a moral dilemma, what does a married woman do with an unplanned pregnancy as the result of an affair? “We were on a break” doesn’t seem to suffice. Raises questions about the reliability of adoption agencies, and the reunion of mother and now adult child .

I’m reading. So cool

Storytelling at its best. DS wrote a story that had me curled up in a blanket like it was a cold winter day. She links words together as if they are musical notes in a symphony. Good story.

Fantastic. The characters were fantastic and the story was interesting and emotional. I enjoyed reading this book.

Emotional rollercoaster. Our family doesn’t keep secrets. Good words to live by.

Excellent. Taking time…that will be a short consideration. Well written.
