Murder by the Book by Lauren Elliott Book Summary

Addie Greyborne loved working with rare books at the Boston Public Library—she even got to play detective, tracking down clues about mysterious old volumes. But she didn’t expect her sleuthing skills to come in so handy in a little seaside town . . .

Addie left some painful memories behind in the big city, including the unsolved murder of her fiancé and her father’s fatal car accident. After an unexpected inheritance from a great aunt, she’s moved to a small New England town founded by her ancestors back in colonial times—and living in spacious Greyborne Manor, on a hilltop overlooking the harbor. Best of all, her aunt also left her countless first editions and other treasures—providing an inventory to start her own store.

But there’s trouble from day one, and not just from the grumpy woman who runs the bakery next door. A car nearly runs Addie down. Someone steals a copy of Alice in Wonderland. Then, Addie’s friend Serena, who owns a nearby tea shop, is arrested—for killing another local merchant. The police seem pretty sure they’ve got the story in hand, but Addie’s not going to let them close the book on this case without a fight . . .

Good book. Wonderful, enjoyed reading

Guide to how not to run a small business. More of a high school type mystery. It was a waste of money and time. Wish I could give it lower than 1 star but it had a pretty cover

Murder book. It was sooo good I recommend u read it!!

Murder by the Book. Addie inherits more than just a last name from a great aunt she doesn’t remember. As she sorts through her inheritance, she decides to open a bookstore in her new town. Life quickly becomes mysterious as strange occurrences plague her and bodies begin to drop. With the help of new friends, she hopes to figure out what is happening and if it has anything to do with recent tragedies in her past. While I wanted to know where the clues were leading, this book dragged a little. I think it was a combination of details and dialogue that went on too long.

Cozy Murder / Crime Mystery, hints of romance. Loved the setting! Everything about this book makes me want to read more. I noticed a few editing errors but nothing crazy! The book was beautiful and wrapped up so nicely with an ending as good as anyone could ask for. It finishes the story and was enjoyable. The kind of book to read under a warm light, storming outside, fireplace roaring and a cup of your favorite delight! The romance was a bit tense-full for my taste but nothing I couldn’t over look. Just made your head spin a little with her reactions to another mans feelings and her stubbornness. Overall worth the read. I will gladly read another which is why I’m buying the second book! Plus I learned a thing or two about books!

Typical mystery - Character falls for a cop.. Story was interesting.

Murder By The Book. I really like this story. It had a few surprises, some made me angry❗️I love all the good characters. So many issues. But Addie did not act like a newly wealthy woman. I totally expected her to shore up some of the charities her Aunt started. I really disliked demon Martha her next door baker.BAD woman❗️I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS MYSTERY.

i loved this book. this was an amazing book to read. i enjoyed reading it.

A page marked for murder. A good mystery that had you guessing until the end.

Loved It. I could not put it down I loved every page to the very end

Murder by the Book. So this is a quick read and entertaining. It’s not hard to follow. I will say that the main character constantly “biting or chewing” her lip got old, but I liked it. I’m not looking for anything too deep to read during our self-quarantine so it was pleasant.

Fun read. Lots of characters and twists!

Ughhhh. I’m on chapter 11 right now and it’s kinda painful. Whoever said the characters were so well developed has no idea what they are talking about.

A one of a kind book. This book is quite honestly one of THE best books I have ever read the plot is dazzling with characters that have depth to them and this book was unpredictable plus it was an exciting ride of a book! I hope this entire series of books does well, it deserves it.

Great cozy mystery!. I’m currently reading the third book in this series and i can’t stress how great it is! The stories are mysterious and at the same time lighthearted. The author does a great job of setting the scene, making me feel like im sitting in a coffee shop in New England instead of in Florida! Can’t wait to read the rest.

I really like it!!!. I’m just getting the hang of this reading for a long time and many books. I wouldn’t say I’m an avid reader but I’d like to become. I was more interested in manga and comics but I do appreciate stories and I like writing too. I really this book it really kept me going it was exciting and made me really want to know what will happen next. I like the characters too, although there isn’t and illustration to see how they look I believe they were all wonderful beauties and I really like their personalities and how it all meshes together. I think I might start reading alottt! Especially with this free time I have now. When I get used to being apart of the community I’ll read it over and do a better review. - Danielle, 15 years

Childish. Was this written by a teenager?

Cute and Cozy. This book is an easy read and perfect for someone wanting something light to read. At times it’s a little convoluted, but overall it’s a cute cozy mystery. The friendships are sweet and the stakes are high. This is the first online book I’ve read and it was the perfect one to get me started! I can’t wait to read the next in the series. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a quick and light read. Happy Reading! 😊
