To Kill a Fae by Jamie A. Waters Book Summary

The darkness holds more than just secrets…

Marked for death, Sabine escaped from her home and fled to a human city.

But the Wild Hunt will never give up.

For more than a decade, she's kept her head down and avoided talking about her past.

Even the best-laid plans eventually fall apart…

When a charismatic stranger arrives, Sabine is unwittingly drawn to him and his power. Keeping her distance is nearly impossible, especially after a life debt is called due and she's tasked with helping him steal a rare artifact.

In order to break the magical barriers protecting the item and save her companions, Sabine will be forced to drop her glamour and reveal her true identity.

The Fae aren't the only ones hunting her.

And the most dangerous monsters aren't always confined to the dark.

Blown away. Wow, I loved this book from page 1 till the end. I had to force myself to put it down multiple times. VERY GREAT READ!

Captivating and Hypnotic!!. **Presented with an ARC via BookSirens in exchange for an honest review.** The way this book opens is astounding. The pacing and poetic prose, the voice of the author shines through in the monologue of Sabine’s thoughts, and it’s all made so much richer still by the 3rd person limited POV it’s written in. There’s a beauty in the darkness Sabine finds herself in; and a glowing enigma in the shadows of mystery that is Malek. The pacing and banter between Malek and Sabine is akin to a perfectly matched pair of dancers gliding and twirling across the floor in a heated tango. Every word draws you deeper, every moment of action captures you ruthlessly to the next until you’re so deep into the book you can’t find your way back out and the world around you disappears. If you like A.D. Winter, Megan Blackwood, Alison Rose, Jessica Feyden, Mary Fan, L.A. Pepper, or Stephanie Rowe, you will love this book!

Excellent Opener!. Fabulous tale of fae, demons and dragons- my faves! Already bought the next book!

Hope. It was very good I love how you worded the book..I love Dax even though he is very stubborn I can’t wait to read the second book

Great!. Great read! It kept me interested from the very start. The only small issue I had. Is there many misplaced words & periods where exclamation marks should be. Or vice versa. In some places, while reading. I would have to reread a sentence or paragraph a couple of times. Putting different words or punctuations in place in my head. Slightly confusing. Still, as I said. Really a great read. Can’t wait to start the next one.

Captivating <3. Wonderful!!! Can’t wait to start the next! I’m hard to grab, but it snatched me right up!!

To Kill a Fae. While there is some cute banter here and there and the plot line, while tropey, does hold some interest, the overall execution wasn’t there, and this book would benefit greatly from a good editor. Honestly, I mostly kept reading to see if anyone would catch a bloodborne pathogen from all the blood magic they’ve been doing, but was disappointed. The author appears compelled to explain and restate every other action or information and frequently stops the story at inappropriate times to go on lengthy world building explanations, resulting in repetitive and wordy writing that flows poorly and a book that should’ve been shorter. Though there’s only a few typos, there are quite a few awkward word choices. I.e. “non-weapons hand” is used instead of offhand. “Little one” is an endearment used by Bane, but he’s her part-time lover, so it’s like if Thanos was sleeping with Gamora. These are just a couple. There’s also a continuity issue where the author forgot the giant hole in the wall and damaged support from when Sabine shoved Dax. The romance aspects are pretty standard fan fiction and there are some issues surrounding consent. Dax drugs Sabine, taking away her ability to consent, which makes all of his physical sexual advances afterward assault. But it’s treated like he just shut her cat in the closet for an hour or something. It’s not given the gravity that it’s due. The chalice is a lame MacGuffin that isn’t used very well. Sabine stops Dax, sensing it can hurt him, but after retrieving it two seconds later turns and offers it to him, and then is surprised when it immediately starts killing him, ruining their heist? Similarly, while evacuating the tavern, she picks up the chalice and decides now for some reason would be a good time to play with magic she still knows next to nothing about and bind with it, conveniently triggering the next part of Usagi’s vision. The ending was especially weird. All throughout the book Sabine has made a point to remind everyone that she doesn’t answer to them. But when pretty much all her friends betray her and collectively try to strip her of her agency and she goes through all the dramatic feels, a minute later she’s totally okay with them because apparently she knew about their plan the entire time but opted not to do anything about it? Also, though there isn’t a cliffhanger, the entire book just ends with zero plot lines resolved. While I’m not familiar enough with the polyamorous community to address Sabine, Dax, Bane, and Malek’s relationship, this doesn’t feel like positive representation.

A bit long. The book was a bit long and drawn out for the content. The book took a few hours to read but only encompasses like 3-5 days in the book. The author skims over important information or scenes. So much information was withheld the entire book. Then in like the last 20 pages all of it was just kind of dumped out. It would have been a lot better if the story was condensed down.

Awesome!. I would love to have this series made into a movie or tv series. It’s that good!

One to get lost in!. I love fantasy, this is a great read! Very well written, a good one to get lost in. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Very fun read. Lots of fun reading this book. Nice plot, good story lines and subplots!

Not bad. …but the excitement started to wane near to the end. Initially very exciting and unique but disappointingly generic towards the end.

The Best fantasy book that included witch an fae and shifters and demons and humans!!!!!!. This has got to be the best far book I’ve red this year!!! It had great characters. And included dragons. And how to squash there magic energy. And pixies and demons and how far related with human No spoilers!!! You have to read this book. The author get 5 stars. For character development. And relatability. And how the characters related to each other!!!!!!! It was great. And no nonsense where you only get parts a day or every 3 days. It was a great read all around! I want the next one!!!

How to Kill a Fae. Thanks for letting me read this wonderful book!! I loved it

Good and interesting, but I will not read the second. I felt as though this book could gone deeper into characters, descriptions, situations, etc. It was an entertaining read for the most part but did not draw me in deep enough to buy the second book. A close call, this book could have been flushed out way more to provide a bigger sense of the story and characters. I would give 3.5 stars if half stars were possible.

Fun and interesting journey. Sabine has been hiding in with the humans with a glamour on. The one that killed her mother is after her and she knows that the Wild Hunt never stops. Now Sabine doesn’t know who she can really trust. Who is her true ally? Can she trust her own feelings? Exciting and fun journey I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Dragons and Demons. Great story, couldn’t stop reading it even at work. I recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy!

Gotta read this. Great reading. Keeps your interest peeked. Easy to follow. Now on to book 2

Intriguing new series!. In this, the start of a new series, we're introduced to Sabine. She is a Fae living amongst humans, in a bid to hide herself from her enemies. Unfortunately, no one can stay hidden forever. We meet a range of characters - demons, goblins and pixies, and others - all who have an invested interest in Sabine's welfare. There is a lot happening in the book, but I feel there is still so much more to discover about these characters, the Fae world, and Sabine, in particular. This story hooked me from the first chapter, and kept me interested (and intrigued!) throughout. I look forward to reading the next in the series. I would love to see what happens from here.

Excellent read. Excellent read, I enjoyed every minute of it!

Mesmerising. This story is enthralling with the fast moving plot with barely contained emotions. What a great read. I could not put it down. Thank you.

Great book. Enjoyed the story line , has romance but that doesn’t take up the whole story characters have good descriptions so easily envisioned

Action galore. Lots of action and intrigue- a “woman” who brings diverse groups together. Someone forced to leave their home finding a life and friends away and trying to help the people she has grown to love

To kill a fae. Wonderful world this author has created the heroine is someone to root for. Can’t wait to read the next book.

Good. Very interesting read. Enjoyed it.

Gripping. Such an interesting and gripping read. I didn’t wanna put it down.

Wonderful. A beautifully crafted story that pulls you in page after page wondering what will happen next. I’m excited for the next book!

Loved it.. Well written and hard to put down. Well worth the read.
