Full of romance and danger. Phoebe, a confirmed spinster and independently wealthy, has decided that she wants to experience what it is like to have a sexual relationship with a man and Marcus is going to accommodate her. The problem is he never expected to fall in love but he does. Events happen that cause Marcus’ freedom to be jeopardized. This is a great love story that is well written and entertaining. I would highly recommend it as a great read.

He’s a bad, bad Marquess. A self declared spinster (and proud of it) and the libertine Marquess. Phoebe Lennox has no use for being a wife, thank you very much. She’s a proud and independent spinster who stops in Hyde Park to aid Marcus. Marcus is a relentless libertine (and proud of it). He’s trying to sort out the mess his cousin Drobbit created. Then there’s that pesky murder of said cousin and a hanky that needs returning. Steamy, a bit of suspense and plenty of clash of wills. Recommend.

Boring. Seems to drag. Halfway through the book and nothing exciting. I gave up

A duke is never enough. Humor,romance and murder brings this story together. Two people that don’t believe in marriage cross paths and the fun begins. This is a well written story with great characters.

Delightful Friends to Lovers. I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. A Duke is Never Enough is the second book in Darcy Burke’s The Spitfire Society series. It could be read as a standalone but I enjoyed the first book and do reccomend read it as well. Marcus Raleigh, Marquess of Ripley has learned that his cousin has been fleecing investors and when he tracks him down to confront him about about it is injured and is aided by an intriguing beauty who won’t give him her name. Phoebe Lennox was ruined when she abandoned her cheating betrothed at the alter. She inherited a fortune from her aunt and has set up her own household and intends to live her life as she sees fit and not as society would wish. It doesn’t take Marcus long to track her down and finding that he wants to know her better convinces her that they should be friends despite his notorious reputation as a rake. There is a nice slow burn as these friends become lovers and a mystery to be solved when his cousin goes missing. I enjoyed this story very much and have just one question about the title… Where’s the Duke? Medium Steam. The spinster and the rakehell. The spinster and the rakehell. Even though this story has an historical setting, the plot feels very contemporary by giving Phoebe the means to be fully independent from Society and The Marriage Mart. Marcus is very much a man of his times, though his best characteristics are pretty timeless: his concern over doing the “right thing”, his desire to look after the people he cares about and those he feels responsible for. I thought both parties were significantly less concerned with propriety than perhaps they should be. That was also part of what felt so ‘out of time’ for me in this story. However, I loved watching these two fall in love. The care and attention Marcus puts into his time with Phoebe to make sure that she’s not frightened in his presence was a delight to witness. I’m already looking forward to seeing what’s next for the Spitfires. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through NetGalley.
