The Gift of the Marquess. A tender story of some of the things that can affect couples, especially long ago. Poppy and Gabriel have to face and work through their trials and learn how to cope with them.

Lovely Story. Poppy and Gabriel are deeply in love and have a completely happy marriage except for one thing. After three years of marriage, it seems they cannot have children. Poppy wants a child. Gabriel doesn’t want to deny her that wish and he would like to be a father. His mother and sister, as well as Poppy’s mother died giving birth, and he is terrified of losing Poppy in childbirth. Working at Hartwell house, they meet a young woman who, sadly, does not wish to keep her baby when it is born. Gabriel offers to take the child for him and Poppy to raise. It doesn’t work out. Poppy is happy that the girl decides to keep her baby. About this same time, Poppy has a surprise for Gabriel. When she happily tells him that she is going to have a baby, the old fear grabs him. He cannot hide his feelings. What will happen now? How will this affect his relationship with Poppy? Wonderful characters that you can’t help but love and pull for, and a sweet heartwarming story make this one not to be missed.

Love’s hurdles. This story tells of the fears and hurdles that face loved ones. The lesson taught is one every couple should learn. A lovely story!

Miracles can happen. I enjoyed the fact that this story was written about a married couple that were still learning to share with each other and trying not to guess what the other person was thinking. Although I have never experienced the anxiety of not being able to conceive, I have had friends in a similar situation. Darcy has been able to share these feelings with the reader with empathy. Poppy and Gabriel both have anxiety over their childless state. Poppy desperately wants children and grieves every time they don’t appear in her life. Gabriel is fearful of pregnancy and birth after losing his mother and his sister. In his mind pregnancy equals death. He hasn’t dealt with this problem, he’s just pushed it into the background and hopes never to have to confront it. When this story takes place Poppy is trying to find a way to go forward with her life in a positive way, but she is not having an easy time of it. The relationship between Poppy and Gabriel is loving and passionate. Their anxieties can be understood by the reader and I found myself wanting to sit them down and be the mediator for them. We see some of the characters from the first book and those to come in the next, but this story can be read as a stand alone. Christmas is getting closer and regional traditions are very important to the theme of the series. It’s a heartwarming story.

The Gift of Love. The Gift of the Marquess by Darcy Burke What an amazing story! I could feel Poppy’s sadness and heartache, trying to achieve the most precious gift and not getting anywhere near, puts a strain on a marriage, even though it’s a love match. Although Gabriel would move heaven and earth for his wife, secretly he’s ok with his life as is, he definitely doesn’t want to lose another person he loves, no matter the cost! A truly heartwarming and emotional read, every single page was fraught with emotion, well written loveable characters and in my opinion the best story this AMAZING author has written to date! I received a complimentary copy from the author this is my honest unbiased opinion.

Wow. There’s quite a lot going on here. Wow. There’s quite a lot going on here. And for anyone who has struggled with fertility issues, this story could be considered slightly triggering. Poppy and Gabriel are fantastic characters. Having been married for several years now, they’ve already made it past most of the worst miscommunication problems that often plague the newly wedded. That doesn’t mean their journey is all smooth sailing though; they still have their moments of ‘humans behaving badly’ where they don’t talk the issues through. No matter what else is going on, it’s easy to feel the love these two have for one another. I thought their emotional vulnerability came across as very realistic and I loved that both characters had growth they needed to accomplish. I felt that their issues resolved a bit too easily, but I realize that it happens that way in real life on a fairly regular basis. I’m dying to see what happens in the next book now.
