Romancing the Earl by Heather Boyd Book Summary

Companion Lenore Griffin is in dire straits when a letter from a dear friend arrives, offering a new position. Relieved at her good fortune, Lenore packs up herself and her beloved dog, Hero, and makes haste for London. Upon arrival, however, not only does she find her old friend in a shocking state of dishabille, but she’s somehow mistaken his offer. He has not written requesting a companion for his new wife. He’s written to request Lenore become his companion…for the rest of their lives.

Price Wagstaff, Earl of Carmichael, must have been deeper in his cups than usual when he wrote that correspondence. He doesn’t remember a blasted word of it. Still, it is a disaster of his own making, and so he will do his duty by Lenore. He quickly decides his old childhood friend will make a sensible wife and an agreeable mother to his heirs. He can give her safety, protection and comfort. A marriage of convenience. Lenore need never know that Price’s heart can never be won.

Despite their intentions to live separate lives, the pair can’t avoid the closeness that intimacy provides, and soon, Price no longer wishes to. Is it possible that he may find love a second time? Perhaps…if his secrets don’t kill their chance at happiness.

Definitely needs an editor..... All of the spelling and grammatical errors ruined the story. The use of plural nouns instead of singular possession and vice versa, words that sound somewhat similar but aren’t spelled the same and then just random words out of the blue that make no sense whatsoever completely ruin the flow. As for the characters, I didn’t care for Price or Lenore. I found them both to be hollow and uninteresting. Neither was someone I could invest emotion in. The cousins were much more engaging and the side characters provided more insight to the story than the main characters.

Terrible. The plot was just a stale repetition stuck in morass. It was terribly written, poorly edited, and the characters were as developed as an unfertilised egg. If the book were free, I would have still felt that I overpaid.

Terrific Regency Romance. Heather Boyd writes terrific books. I enjoy how she writes about situations that are different from most regency romances, but I think that what I like best about her books is the way she has with emotions. The internal conversations that she writes for her characters show an innate understanding of human nature. This book has no huge conflict in it nor does it have some terrible situation that the characters have to solve or overcome. What it does have is two friends who get married and have to learn to live with each other. It is a tribute to Ms. Boyd’s writing that this book is as riveting as any thriller I have ever read. I recommend this series and this book highly. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Love after loss. This is the story of the Earl of Carmichael and Lenore, his playmate from when they were very young. Lenore was a servant in the Earl’s home when he as a boy and as they grew older, he helped her find a position as a companion. They continued to write to each other once a year but really didn’t know each other as adults. Price had turned to drinking after his Godmother went on a killing spree that included the woman he loved and planned to marry. While in his cups, he sent a letter proposing marriage to Lenore, who mistook the letter as Price offering her a job as his wife’s companion. Once they figure out the mistake, they decide that a marriage of convenience would suffice. As you would expect in a romance, they fall in love with each other but don’t tell the other and then proceed to mess it all up. They eventually make their way to a HEA but not before there is confusion, hurt feelings, misunderstandings and some meddling. This isn’t the best book I’ve read by Heather Boyd, but I liked it and will continue to read more in this series.
