The Night Swim Book Reviews
The Night Swim by Megan Goldin Book Summary
“A blistering plot and crisp writing make The Night Swim an unputdownable read.” –Sarah Pekkanen, bestselling author of The Wife Between Us
In The Night Swim, a new thriller from Megan Goldin, author of the “gripping and unforgettable” (Harlan Coben) The Escape Room, a true crime podcast host covering a controversial trial finds herself drawn deep into a small town’s dark past and a brutal crime that took place there years before.
Ever since her true-crime podcast became an overnight sensation and set an innocent man free, Rachel Krall has become a household name—and the last hope for people seeking justice. But she’s used to being recognized for her voice, not her face. Which makes it all the more unsettling when she finds a note on her car windshield, addressed to her, begging for help.
The new season of Rachel's podcast has brought her to a small town being torn apart by a devastating rape trial. A local golden boy, a swimmer destined for Olympic greatness, has been accused of raping the beloved granddaughter of the police chief. Under pressure to make Season 3 a success, Rachel throws herself into her investigation—but the mysterious letters keep coming. Someone is following her, and she won’t stop until Rachel finds out what happened to her sister twenty-five years ago. Officially, Jenny Stills tragically drowned, but the letters insist she was murdered—and when Rachel starts asking questions, nobody in town wants to answer. The past and present start to collide as Rachel uncovers startling connections between the two cases—and a revelation that will change the course of the trial and the lives of everyone involved.
Electrifying and propulsive, The Night Swim asks: What is the price of a reputation? Can a small town ever right the wrongs of its past? And what really happened to Jenny?

MUST READ. Love love love this book! Goldin has a knack for seamlessly alternating perspectives between Rachel and Hannah. The twist bringing both stories together was nothing short of brilliant. I’m excited for this author to publish more books, I will definitely be reading them!
Crime podcast/thriller. Review of the audiobook. This was fantastic. I loved the blend of true crime podcast/thriller. I’ve never read anything like it before. The crimes in this book were very graphic and sometimes hard to read but I couldn’t put it down and had to know how it ended. Although I don’t recommend reading it before bed, here I am up at midnight because I needed to finish! Five stars and I can’t wait to read more from this author!
Difficult subject handled well. Megan Goldin has done it again. I really enjoyed her first book The Escape Room and I really believe I enjoyed this book even more. I didn’t know if I’d like this story or not as it is about a subject that to this day is still very difficult for me but Megan Goldin handled the subject matter and the storyline beautifully that I personally didn’t take offense to it as I normally do when the subject is as sensitive as rape vs consensual sex. The story centers around Rachel who has a podcast centered around crime and for the first time she is covering a live trial in a small town that is very divided over the defendant’s guilt or innocence. Especially when the accused is a very popular and athletic town hero with very wealthy parents. Rachel is also drawn into a story of something that happened in the same town 25 years before but nothing was ever done. Definitely worth the read. I found it to be a page turner and wanted to know constantly what was going to happen next. This book was an easy and fast read and for those that enjoy a good story along with a mystery thrown in as a side story, this book is for you. I will definitely be reading more of Megan Goldin’s books.
Great theme and flow. Easy to pick up and hard to put down. Well-written women, great chaos, building suspense, and a satisfying end.
Sucked. I don’t know why this book had some good reviews. Incredibly repetitive, slow, and a waste of my time. The writing is juvenile.
The Night Swim. Excellent
The night swim. Now this book may be hard to read for some people. The contents deal with murder and rape. I didn’t know if I could read it. But since I really enjoyed Megan’s last book I gave it a try. After a few pages I was hooked and had to see what happened next. Rachel has a podcast that she does on court cases. It deals with how the judicial system works. You feel part investigator part jury. It’s a tough book to read but it’s done well.
Loved!!!!!. My Review: Wow, wow, wow!!!!! This is definitely going in my top ten favorite books of all the year list. It was just that good. This is my first book by Megan Goldin and boy she sure didn’t disappoint with this one. This book was about a Podcaster named Rachel who covers the trial of rape. The victim and the alleged rapists were both young so was it really a case of rape. Rachel was also receiving notes everywhere she went about another rape from many years earlier. What did both these rapes have in common? Were they really rapes? Were they just one night passions of regrets? You find these answers and many more by the end of the book. I want to start off by saying that I would definitely not pass this book up. I’m in awe at how well written this book was especially when you are covering the topic of rape. You have to be very sensitive and this author does that throughout the book. She really made you feel what the victim felt and how awful a rape can be even when it’s over. So with that being said this book is not for the faint hearted. I really loved the fact that this was a courtroom drama as well. I haven’t read one of those books in a while and realized how much I missed them. I’ve missed the ins and out of the courtroom. I also missed hearing both sides of the story not just one. I’ve always loved the You Be The Jury books when I was a kid and this reminded me of those. My favorite part of the book though was that shocking ending. I didn’t see that one coming at all. I thought it was going one way but then it went straight into a different direction. I absolutely loved that and the whole book in general. Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Emotional excellent read. Podcasts. It has been a long time since I enjoyed one. This story centers around a podcast reporter, who investigates current issues and a past mystery. It is disturbing on many levels as it deals with abuse, rape and the emotional results. This was not a quick read, I found myself putting the book down with disgust, then picking it back up because the story draws you back, but it is a hard read. Add this to your TBR list, it is sad, emotional and will make you angry at the privilege, abuse and the trial by social media.
Excellent!. Loved it! Kept me guessing til the end!!!
