Total Power by Vince Flynn & Kyle Mills Book Summary

“One of the best thriller writers on the planet.” —The Real Book Spy

In the next thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling Mitch Rapp series, it’s a race against the clock when ISIS takes out the entire US power grid and throws the country into chaos.

When Mitch Rapp captures ISIS’s top technology expert, he reveals that he was on his way to meet a man who claims to have the ability to bring down America’s power grid. Rapp is determined to eliminate this shadowy figure, but the CIA’s trap fails.

The Agency is still trying to determine what went wrong when ISIS operatives help this cyber terrorist do what he said he could—plunge the country into darkness. With no concept of how this unprecedented act was accomplished, the task of getting the power back on could take months. Perhaps even years.

Rapp and his team embark on a desperate search for the only people who know how to repair the damage—the ones responsible. But his operating environment is like nothing he’s experienced before. Computers and communication networks are down, fuel can no longer be pumped from gas stations, water and sanitation systems are on the brink of collapse, and the supply of food is running out.

Can Rapp get the lights back on before America descends irretrievably into chaos?

This compulsive thriller proves once again that the Mitch Rapp series is “the best of the best when it comes to the world of special ops” (Booklist, starred review).

Total Power. Another great Mitch Rapp adventure. Kyle Mills continues the Vince Flynn tradition.

Total Power. Really disappointed. This felt rushed and lacked significantly in the details and character development we have come to love from Vince and Kyle. Kyle has done a good job picking up with MItch Rapp where Flynn left off but this book almost feels like it was written by someone else.

Great read. Thrilling as with all Mitch Rapp stories.

Great Story. Loved it! Kyle has taken over from the Master and done well.

Kyle Mills once again does well with Rapp! Great read. I’ve read every other Vince Flynn book(Kyle Mills too!) at least 3+ times. Really enjoyed this one! Kyle has done a GREAT JOB of continuing with Mitch Rapp! Hopefully our government has GOOD GUYS LIKE MITCH!

Total Power. This book was neither part of its name. All plot and little understanding of the original character. More misogynistic than than creative and with few qualities to recommend it. Vince Flynn would not be pleased.

Nice change of pace.. Another good read in the Mitch Rapp series. Domestic terrorism is an unfortunate reality in American today and in the future. This is a stark reminder.

Ugh!. Just bad... plot is believable ... characters are not

TooRoo. This book is awesome!!😀🤩

Total awe.... I’m in awe.Great book, well written and really made me think. Awesome!

Wow. Read it. Slow your heart rate. Then go start searching for a generator. This is one of my favorites in this series. I think Kyle might just do better justice to Rapp than Flynn, and believe me when I say that’s no easy feat. I’m also pulling for Coleman to FINALLY become three-dimensional. Go Scott! Glad he speaks Russian. Read it. You’ll love it, too.

Terrifying. But we’re a super power, right? The thought that something like this, or possibly an unseen global coronavirus pandemic, could happen and change our lives right in front of us is terrifying. Makes me think... what would you do?

Then it Went Dark. Kyle Mills is not a Vince Flynn. The story bounces around at times and you can’t figure out how it went from Mississippi to Oregon with just a page flip. This is not a Mitch Rapp, Vince Flynn Story. Very disappointed. Waited anxiously for the book to come out, but now sorry.

A mediocre weekend read. This was a decent, quick read. The premise was interesting, although it felt a little disjointed in parts and then other aspects of the story seemed rushed.

Terrifying. I love all the Rapp books and this is probably my favorite. This is by far the most terrifying. The psychological insight into the bad guy is fascinating, and as usual Rapp is at the top of his game.

Total Power. Absolutely fantastic reading

UGH! What happened?. I’m a big fan of the Mitch Rapp series and Kyle Mills’ previous works, but something went wrong with this one. The plot and resolution were painfully simple and all of the characters were, at best, two dimensional. It just felt like a short story that needed to stay short or an early draft that needed significantly more time and depth. For whatever reason, someone decided it was “good enough” and declared victory far too soon. Just another casualty of 2020.

Boring. Poorly researched with absolutely nothing holding it together. I miss Vince and his great stories. I’m done until I’m forced to reconsider.

Boring.. Really predictable. Put me to sleep.

Meh!. I feel like Kyle Mills has lost the essence and focus of Mitch Rapp. I hope that with the new administration there will be more political intrigue.

Wow. I haven’t put a Vince Flynn book down yet.

Total Power. Very disappointing. I have always looked forward to reading every Mitch Rapp novel. This novel lacked any character development of Mitch. He was treated as an afterthought. I skimmed the last half of the book as I found it boring. Kyle Mills did a better job on the first couple books after the death of Vince Flynn, but this book was substandard and not worthy of Vince Flynn’s name on the cover. What happened to our hero Mitch? He turned into someone bland & unrecognizable. Unworthy read.

A Preppers Dream Come True. Sooner or later, it seems logical a situation similar to Mr. Mills story will happen to America. With the current condition of our country, the best thing we can do as Americans is be prepared for the unexpected. Sadly most won’t or can’t. Unless things change, there will be more and more food shortages. However, the epilogue was to dark for me. I hope as a country we don’t sink to the level of our enemies, as portrayed, which is why I gave a 3 star rating.

Mills knocked it out of the park!. Just when you think the Mitch Rapp series can’t get much better, Mills crushes it with Total Power. I could not put this book down.

Total Power. Really enjoyed this book. It’s an easier read than some of his others but there’s nothing wrong with that.

Definitely the worst Mitch Rapp book. The premise for this book was definitely interesting. However, the entire book did not seem believable at all. I wonder if the Mitch Rapp character is coming to the end of the line.I had a hard time finishing this book because it was so unbelievale. Normally I cannot put down a Mitch Rapp book this one was so difficult and unbelievable that I had a hard time finishing it. I hope the next one gets on track or Mitch Rapp character needs to retire.

Captivating. Great book. Could not put it down.

Total Power. Mitch Rapp never disappoints! The premise of the book (total power grid failure) is totally believable and maybe possible! Great book!

Fantastic. The author has recreated Vinces writing and incredible story lines great work ! Incredible read

Total Power. Suspenseful read. Thankful for the ones who help keep us safe.

Good book. I enjoyed the idea. It is intriguing and I’m thinking possible. Scary. It was a good, quick, entertaining read.

Well done. Despite a few weak plot points that are easily excused this has a lot of the ingredients we’ve come to expect. Fast paced action and ruthless efficiency.

Average at best.. Not the greatest of the series but still a decent page turner.

What happened? Awful!. I’ve read every Mitch Rapp book including all the books written by Flynn and the ones written by Mills. Up until now Mills had done an outstanding job replicating Flynn’s writing. I’m not sure what happened, but this book is awful and nothing like any of Flynn’s or Mills’ previous Rapp books. The writing and dialogue is incoherent, boring, and ridiculous. I’m having a hard time finishing the books, it’s that bad. Mills needs to go back and read all of Flynn’s books and refresh his memory, because this book is awful. This isn’t how Rapp speaks. This isn’t how Rapp acts. This is not Mitch Rapp. The dialogue is sophomoric and childish. It sounds like dialogue by 12 year old with come up with. Mills needs to spend a lot more time with actual experts on firearms, explosives, special operations, tactical assaults, etc. One great thing about Flynn’s writing was how realistic the action sequences were. Flynn must have spent a lot of time picking the brain of real operators and having them critique his writing before he finalized it. I really tried to like this book, but I honestly couldn’t get past the half way point.

Total bore. This. Is one of the weakest Mitch Rapp stories. A complete waist of time.

Ridiculous. That’s really all I need to say. This series used to be entertaining but has become poorly written and dumb. It seems they’ll continue cranking out half-baked, stupid plot lines a few times a year in the hopes we keep eating them up. I’m finished with it.

Far apart from Vince Flynn’s original work. Really bad. Had to put it down after the half way mark. The character of Mitch Rapp in this book is completely off.

Mitch Rapp Never Disappoints!. Enjoyed this book.

Loved it!. Great story and fast paced.

Worst Rapp Novel Yet. This was poorly written and rushed. Felt like a book written just to get published and sold. Plot and character development simplistic and not very thorough. Bad enough to potentially drop out or reading the series. This book did not honor Vince Flynn at all.

Enjoyable but unimaginative.. I liked it except for the last page. Totally implausible he would include a civilian in what was about to happen.

Kinda jumped the shark. It just stopped feeling realistic. The novel is well written but the whole story is like a fantasy that doesn’t fit in this world anymore.

Total Power. Not the best Mitch Rapp book. Just downright bad.

Below Par. Not up to Flynn standard. The story is somewhat far fetched

It’s Over. I’ve read every Rapp novel at least twice. I will never read another one. Total Power is an insult to the intellect and a complete waste of time. By the way, the attack on our grid story line has been done to death already.

MEH. I read all the reviews prior to reading the book. I had never run across a topic like the Power Grid being disabled. That’s very scary and I pray it never happens to us. But Mitch in this novel is not “MITCH.” It’s just okay.

Total Power. Well written! I love the Mitch Rapp series!

First really bad Rapp novel. I’ve read all of the Mitch Rapp novels twice (only once for this one since it’s new). This novel was a pain to complete. It started out at a “racing” 5 mph pace but did pick up to about 30 mph by the end. The story telling was really, really slow. In fact, this was not really a Mitch Rapp novel. Truth be told, Rapp played an insignificant role in the whole book. If I were you, I’d skip this book and read anything written by James Lee Burke or C.J. Box.

Great book!. I was somewhat skeptical after reading some of the reviews, but I thought it was great! I couldn’t put it down!

Total Power. Just OK. I really miss Vince Flynn
