Squeeze Me by Carl Hiaasen Book Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • A hilarious novel of social and political intrigue, set against the glittering backdrop of Florida’s gold coast, from the author of Skinny Dip and Razor Girl

“If you could use some wild escapism right now, Hiaasen is your guy.” —The New York Times

WITH A NEW EPILOGUE

At the height of Palm Beach’s charity ball season, Kiki Pew Fitzsimmons, a prominent member of geriatric high society, suddenly vanishes during a swank gala. Kiki Pew was a founding member of the Potussies, a group of women dedicated to supporting the President, who spends half the year at the “Winter White House” just down the road. Meanwhile, Angie Armstrong, wildlife wrangler extraordinaire, is called to the island to deal with a monster-sized Burmese python that has taken residency in a tree. But the President is focused on the disappearance of Kiki Pew. Never one to miss an opportunity to play to his base, he immediately declares her a victim of rampaging immigrant hordes. This, it turns out, is far from the truth, which now lies in the middle of the road, where a bizarre discovery brings the First Lady’s motorcade to a grinding halt. Irreverent, ingenious, and uproariously entertaining, Squeeze Me perfectly captures the absurdity of our times.

Hilariously funny. Not at all what I was expecting in so many good ways

Always a pleasure. I’ve missed Skink! Please keep him around.

Squeeze Me. This book was such a fun read! It was wonderfully quirky and our heroine was filled with wit, charm and a steadfastness sense of duty. Hiasson, as usual, had me laughing out loud!

Excellent. Bought book after reading the one star review. I’d give it 10 stars! Loved the characters. Even kinda feel for the real Mockingbird. And what a wonderful story line. Highly recommend.

GR8. :-) Absolutely wonderful. Your best yet.

A Fun Romp. Typical Hiaasen, which is what makes it so much fun. Quite topical too.

Loved it!. As an anti-Trumper, I loved how ridiculous his rabid, idiotic fan base was depicted in the book. The Potussies were spot on as complete nincompoops. Even better, were the reviews from his supporters. It’s hysterical they refuse to see how their devotion to a mad man looks to those of us who are sane. Well worth the read!

Mike M. Carl’s pen skewers south Floridians often hilariously. I have enjoyed some of his previous novels very much. But this one goes so far beyond satire and ‘fun-poking’ at Donald Trump that it becomes tough to plow through. Obviously Carl’s sympathy’s are with liberals but his previous efforts have been equal opportunity… no one has been safe. Had I known this one is more of a screed, I would have given it a pass.

Once again, well done Mr. Hiaasen. Typical Hiaasen, with a return of one of the most compelling figures in all of literature. I’m very curious - just how many of us read this book before the election? Hiaasen may have altered history with this one!

Carl did it again. Classic Hiaasen. Sarcastically funny and brilliant Brought Skink back to life as colorful as ever. Loved each page

Hiaasen’s Best. How does a satirist handle someone who is a parody of themselves? Hiaasen parodies Trump and his Trumpsters brilliantly, deafly wielding all the tools of satire like Swiss Army Machete. Of course he is aided by a super hero named Skink.

. This is Mr. Hiaasons worst effort. Best suited to the legion of the former Presidents haters. Lazy portrayal of half truths represented as facts about our former President.. A lazy and un researched effort resorting in Mr.Hiaasen’s worst effort to date. Do yourself a favor and reread Bad Monkey rather than spend $ on this trash!

Not his best work. Not the best Hiaasen book. Try “Bad Monkey” or almost anything else. Usually, this guy is fun and hilarious. This book falls short of the mark.

Squeeze Me.. He phoned this one in. Boring. Goes no where. Very little character development.

Squeeze me. A satire with the truth not far beneath it’s text. I loved it!

Squeeze Me. My first read my this author, I found it a cleaver interesting fun story I will read his others.

Drinks. I just want to spend one night with Carl having drinks. I love the way this man’s mind works! Great book!

Hilarious!. You will chuckle through every page unless of course you are among the minority of people who voted for the orange buffoon. Hiaasen once again captures the ridiculous life styles of southern Florida.

Spare yourself. I paid 2.99 for Squeeze Me. I paid too much.

Disappointed. Not my favorite. Will be viewed as petty and snipe loaded by many current and certainly most future readers. Too bad. I’ve enjoyed so many hours and several absolute belly laughs in the past. Will miss Carl.

A Fun Read. What an enjoyable summer read. Naturally, I picture the former President and his wife which gives the story an interesting perspective. The twists and turns make this a fun read.

Ugh. Always looked forward to his books. Story is great but the political infusion... I read to escape this constant, typical, uncreative drumbeat.

Squeeze Me... Excellent read.. always entertaining.. loved it, as always. Thank you sir

Squeeze Me. I’ve read most of CHs books and found them quite entertaining. Squeeze me was a big let down.. Not funny at all. CH left his comfort zone and went after the president with some really cheap shots. No laughs from me on this one, just disappointment. I probably will not read any more of his books nor tout them to my friends.

Don’t Waste your time. Done with his books. The plot was disjointed and forced to put forth his liberal agenda. This was no humorous political satire. Disgusted with the character assassination of 45 and family.

Squeeze Me. Not as interesting or as fun as his previous books.

Classic Hiaasen. At his best.

Last CH Book for me!. I don’t think I will ever read another one of your books. Why did you have to be so obnoxiously political?

Poor Trump fascists. Would y’all be happier if the hero was Hannity smiting and ruling Libtard’s everywhere to help a Cult led by a narcissistic orange man child....Bunch of sore losers who can’t take a joke. If Donald Trump’s not the personification of necessary satire then I don’t know what it is....

Darn funny. This story kept me chuckling to the end..

Squeeze Me. Ridiculously political and exaggerated. It was like trying to read a children’s fantasy book as an adult. Have enjoyed this author in the past but won’t be spending money on any of his titles in the future. I get it - you hate Trump, but why don’t you just title the book that so we know what we are getting.

A fun read,. Timely and great easy read during a pandemic!

Too politically motivated for my taste. Great story except for the political bits and pieces. Not like old hiassen where politics were fluid. The political part of this book is very forced

Hilarious, One of Hiaasen’s Best. I loved this one. The only part that was sad was that so many pythons get killed. Hiaasen nails it with his portrayal of humanity, political satire, and the plights we have wrecked on our natural world.

First half is hysterically funny. Up to about 3/4 through this is outrageously funny. Had me laughing out loud. Then it kind of drifted into a sort of rehash, looking for humor and a storyline. Overall a really good read. It’s worth your while.

Hated it!. I did not like the subject or the disrespect shown a US President.

Hilarious. True to form, this one had me laughing out loud from beginning to end!

Funny. In this time we need a murder mystery that is funny. And this book is!

Could not put it down. I have read all of Carl Hiaasens books and wait anxiously for the next one. ‘Squeeze Me’ does not disappoint, I couldn’t put it down.

Insightful tongue in cheek humor. I am aurprised to realize it may have been 20 years since I last read any of his books. His humor is as biting as ever. I recalll he said he gets the ideas for his books from newsers from Miami. That sees very believable. The return of Skink and the presence of giant pythons adds a lot of Florida to the story. The protagonist Angela is certainly an endearing creation.

Squeeze Me. I never laughed out loud reading a book! It was just what I needed and Hiaasen captured the sould of the Trump family perfectly in this comic joyride. He loves to play with people of enormous wealth and this book doesn’t disappoint. If you. are a Trump lover, don’t even try to read this book, though. You will be offended. Read it if you want to spend a few days laughing and enjoying just being alive in these crazy times.

Excellent!. The people who didn’t like this book should have read the reviews first, so they knew what it was about. It is loosely based on our former president. Ok, not that loosely. That’s why it is hilarious on one hand, but kind of sad on the other. I highly recommend it!

Squeeze Me. Love it! Deft and exaggerated handling of 45 and his bumbling antics in Florida. And though I loved the lady wrangler, it is pretty clear that a man wrote the characterization. Bit shallow. Can appreciate how the First Lady was portrayed, don’t have a grudge against her and she came out better than I expected.

Squeeze me. Had to throw book away too much propaganda sorry to see an author I usually like has TDS

Squeeze me. I’ve been a Hiaasen fan for years but this book ended it for me. I read to get away from political smears on tv only to have Carl ruin a fair plot with his obvious disdain for Trump.

Save the politics for some other forum. I read Hiassen for escapism. What a disappointment. The plot of this book only serves as a setup to attack Trump and his followers. For the record, I think the former president is a buffoon. But I didn’t buy the book to endure the author’s cathartic hit piece. I just wanted a good yarn. Gave up 1/3 of the way.

Research. Glock handguns don't have a safety other than a lever built into the trigger. No way to switch one on.

Nailed It!. Carl Hiaason never fails to deliver. The plot kept the reader engaged right up to the end. And his characterization of the fictional President and Palm Beach society were hilarious, mirroring my own perceptions as a 68-year Florida resident. You won’t want to miss out on this engaging read.

TDS is All over this book. Too bad Mr. Hiaasen had to go there. Completely unnecessary to put his political feelings of a sitting President in his writings.

Snaky story. Worst book ever written by CH !!
