Page turner. DI Harte is a very real heroine, and it’s nice to get to know her warts and all. The hot and cold romance with Briggs is always in the background waiting to resurface and she always see’s her cases through to the end, putting her work before herself.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one!. Hooked from the start and enjoyed the story. The plot was good and the ending wasn’t what I expected so this is definitely one of the better ones in the series.

Good read. I enjoyed the flow of the story and had no idea who had committed the crimes until the end. Took me a little to get into but once I was there I couldn’t stop reading.

Enjoyed it very much.. This, for me, was a very enjoyable and nearly perfect read, if a murder story can ever be described as enjoyable! My niggles are so minor that it seems wrong to detail them. The main one is the reason for... no, it didn’t spoil the overall story and I can’t say more for fear of revealing too much. The writing style was to my taste. I read the book in two days. There were plenty of suspects to get me guessing who the murderer was, which I like. I did experience deja vu while reading the book. I’m sure I’ve read a book or seen a television drama with a very similar plot in a similar setting but that ultimately didn’t matter.

An outstanding crime thriller. I have to admit up front, that I had not read any of Carla’s work before. But, I had read so many positive reviews on all her books, that when the invitation to join in on the blog tour was extended for Her Last Mistake, I jumped at the chance. I used to have a rule that I would never read a book from a series unless I had started with book one. Before starting my blog, I just couldn’t imagine jumping on the bandwagon with the second book let alone the sixth, which is where Her Last Mistake fits in with the series. Having this rule in place, I was missing out on so many great books that I decided to break the rule. So the question is, how did I go starting with the sixth book in the Detective Gina Harte series? Read on to find out. Carla has created a thrilling plot that drew me in immediately after reading the blurb. I mean how could I not be with this opening sentence “Dressed in a sage green bridesmaid dress, and smiling for pictures, Holly is the happiest she’s ever been. Hours later, Holly is dead.” It is such a great hook line and creates the sinister vibe of the story perfectly. I won’t rehash the plot in this review, as I don’t want to inadvertently give something away and the blurb gives enough of what you need to go in with. I instantly connected with Detective Gina Harte. What a strong character Carla has created. A force to be reckon with, she just comes to life through the pages and has been written beautifully. Although not without her flaws, she is what I like to describe as perfectly imperfect. Even though this was my first introduction to her and I have missed a lot of her back story, it wasn’t hard to pick up that she is a tortured soul, who has her own struggles and inner demons to contend with, while trying to balance her work life from her family and personal life. Carla put me instantly at ease with enough background information for me to follow what was going on, so it most definitely can be read as a stand-alone. Through writing that is so engaging, emotive and vivid, Carla has a new fan in me and she has made me want to go back and read the other five books in the series as well as future books. Her Last Mistake is a gripping read, that will have you on the edge of your seat as Carla takes you on one wild ride, that is full of tension and suspense. Right from the prologue, she never takes her foot off the accelerator until the end and I absolutely loved it! It was an absolute pleasure to read and review Her Last Mistake which I highly recommend. A bit of a let down. The storyline is well considered and has the appearance of intricate planning and surprise. Sadly, this is not the case. The writing and in particular the dialogue is clunky and immature.
