Tom Clancy Shadow of the Dragon by Marc Cameron Book Summary

A missing Chinese scientist, unexplained noises emanating from under the Arctic ice, and a possible mole in American intelligence are just some of the problems that plague President Jack Ryan in the latest entry in Tom Clancy's #1 New York Times bestselling series.

Aboard an icebreaker in the Arctic Ocean a sonar operator hears an unusual noise coming from the ocean floor. She can't isolate it and chalks the event up to an anomaly in a newly installed system.

Meanwhile, operatives with the Chinese Ministry of State Security are dealing with their own mystery--the disappearance of brilliant but eccentric scientist, Liu Wangshu. They're desperate to keep his crucial knowledge of aerospace and naval technology out of their rivals' hands.

Finding Liu is too great an opportunity for any intelligence service to pass up, but there's one more problem. A high-level Chinese mole, codenamed Surveyor, has managed to infiltrate American Intelligence. President Jack Ryan has only one choice: send John Clark and his Campus team deep into China to find an old graduate student of the professor's who may hold the key to his whereabouts. It's a dangerous gamble, but with John Clark holding the cards, Jack Ryan is all in.

Not my favorite author. The conclusion made it worth it.

Well done. Liked the story

Intriguing, suspenseful, great!. I enjoyed the moments of suspense given throughout this book. Tom Clancy does not disappoint!

Enjoyable. A very enjoyable read staying true to Clancy.

Not on par with the preceding Jack Ryan books. The story was solid but for the first time in a jack ryan story a lot of detail in each sub plot was missing. There just wasn’t enough content for each of the sub plots. Should have been about 100 pages longer.

Too short. Not up to Clancy standards. The story read like the author was in a hurry to get finished. Too many characters and not enough time to really get them involved in the story. Results were too easy for all the characters and nobody really had a decent story. Could have been a good story if it had time to develop better. Disappointing

This excellent story continues!. It’s all about these characters that I feel I’ve known forever.

3 stars at best.. Felt this was very average.

Great!. Good book! One of the better Ryan books in a while

Great read. I thought Clancy passed. This book is so much like Clancy’s style it’s like he never left us. Tech details like Tom would have liked.

Lots of plots. This story is excellent. It was several different stories going on at the same time but most come together at the end. Thanks for a good read !

Grabbed and kept my attention. An excellent read. Got my attention and kept it. Have not sat down with a book for a year. Was glad I did and will now read more from this author.

Well Done and Fun. Started a little slow, but picked pace. Very enjoyable.

Great read. Always gripping story line.

Great Book. Great reading.

Not what I expected. Not what I expected in a “Jack Ryan” novel very little of Jack Ryan. Not worth $14 +

Wish it was better. Felt like I was reading 4 books at once with no apparent connection of the story lines until the very end. Could hardly tell it was a Jack Ryan novel until about 2/3 through.

Larry’s review. Story line is getting a bit old.

Too many characters. The first half of the book lacked cohesion and a central storyline. Too many characters that made it difficult for the writer to develop them properly.

Great book!. Fast paced action.

Still some of the best military/intel fictions available. Grateful for another Jack Ryan and Jr story. I don’t stay up reading all night like I did for some of Clancy originals but that’s because I’m older and not because Shadow was any less thrilling. Can’t wait for another. Thank you Marc.

Good Read. Good mix of plot twists. Not a literary masterpiece, but a fun read with the usual cast of characters.

Time To Quit Miking Tom Clancy's Legacy. The very worst of the series. You won't recognize the cast of characters.

Shadow of the Dragon. I enjoy Marc Cameron’s interpretation of Clancy, min this book he does capture a good deal of that spirit. Typical of Clancy’s style the story has a good “hook” and it is complex. I was taken by the relationship that developed between John Clark and Hala the child, it was however a disappointment that it seemed to go nowhere. Lots of action but Cameron appears to write with a limit on the pages to fill, Clancy’s books were long but no loose ends. I still prefer Cameron’s Jack Ryan series including the Campus to the Jack Ryan Jr books.

Shadow of the Dragon. An OK effort on the part of Cameron but certainly not a stay up all night page turner.

Absorbing. Was a quick enjoyable read.

Shadow of the Dragon. It was all I expected of the Clancy run it follows what Tom started I think these other writers follow his style well!

Shadow of the Dragon. As a avid reader of Tom Clancy books I always enjoy the plot of the books . The plot of the book as the books I read before always keeps me interested and enjoyable.Sometimes I keep reading that I forget what time it is and this book is no exception. 5 stars book. Kevin

Pseudo Clancy. Thin plot line, product placement excuse of a book. Redeeming factors: none
