Murder. Manor homes. Malfunctioning chandeliers.
Hollywood starlets are supposed to be happily on set in sunny California, and not trapped in drafty manor houses during ferocious snowstorms.
But after Cora Clarke's best friend and fellow actress elopes with an English earl, Cora visits England to help her friend brave the aristocratic disapproval of her new husband's family.
Unfortunately the holiday turns nightmarish when a chandelier crashes down and kills somebody. When suspicion falls on her friend, Cora vows to figure out the identity of the murderer. After all, blizzards have a habit of preventing the police from arriving, and body counts have a dreadful habit of growing.

Calamity under the chandelier. Very enjoyable .
Really tried. to get not this book but it's just so boring. They take a trip on an ocean liner from NY to England and no description of the ship or the trip. Characters couldn't be more dull and non descriptive. Had to give up.

They arrive just as a snowstorm covers the countryside, but that isn’t the most dreary event of the untraditional holidays. When the duke dies in a gruesome accident involving a chandelier, Cora can’t help but channel her gal detective character and question whether something more sinister is going on. The story started well and wove in lots of interesting characters and suspects. Then they unveiled the murderer and the story seemed to drag from there
