The Girls in the Stilt House. The book is probably great but the audio version is sooooooooo bad I couldn’t get through the first chapter! I should have previewed it first! I’ll purchase again and read it myself.

Best in a long time….. It won me over quickly after a doubtful start. The characters are so strong, the loved and the hated ones alike. Everything I needed to do got neglected as I read fervently to the end. A great accidental reading treat.

Stilt girls. Amazing book of a complex, Racial, world in Mississippi, in the 1920’s. Also, how complex, we are as humans. And fragile! I enjoyed the book a good getting to know Matilda and Ada! A great read I couldn’t put down!

A haunting story that grips the heart.. The brutality and judgments on humanity based on race and color, tempered with the support, strength and love of those in the background, who in their hearts, worked endlessly to sow compassion and justice. These who saw through the eyes of God that all life is diverse, beautiful and to be loved. That all life matters. And the description of the swamp was wonderfully descriptive.

Riveting. The character development of each person and the evolving plot makes this story engaging and believable.

Engaging book. I enjoyed the writing style of the author. She balanced the story with expertise considering this is her debut novel The characters were developed and the plot developed slowly and deliberately by end of chapter 1 I was committed to the story

Book Great… Narrator Not so Much. The book had a wonderful story, but really wished I’d gotten the book rather than the audiobook. The Narrator was irritating with a particular rhythm that tilted upward at the end of phrases that was terribly annoying.

Extremely Depressing. It was a slow slog through one horrible occurrence after another. There was never any relief in the storyline and the main character never seemed to learn how to survive or learn from her experiences
