Years ago, Bernie and Maya were roommates, but time and Maya’s struggles with addiction drove them apart. Now Maya’s brother asks Bernie to find out what happened to his sister.
Tracing Maya’s whereabouts, Bernie learns that her old friend had confessed to the murder of her estranged husband, a prominent astronomer. But the details don’t align. Suspicious, Bernie takes a closer look at the case only to find that nothing is as it seems. The investigation causes an unexpected rift with her husband and new acting boss, Jim Chee, who’s sure Bernie’s headed for trouble. While she’s caught between present and past, Chee is at a crossroads of his own. Burdened with new responsibilities he didn’t ask for and doesn’t want, he must decide what the future holds for him and act accordingly.
Can their mentor Joe Leaphorn—a man also looking at the past for answers to the future—provide the guidance both Bernie and Chee need? And will the Navajo heroes that stud the starry sky help them find justice—and the truth they seek?

Stargazer. Anne Hillerman. A stupendous read!!! Bernie is assisting the FBI in an homicide investigation with twists and turns at every corner. Her husband Chee is the acting Captain for the Navajo Tribal Police and is overwhelmed with the assignment. LT. Joe Leaphorn as usual is there mentor for both Chee and Bernie. As I stated earlier an stupendous read!!! Enjoyed immensely!! My highest recommendation!!
Different but just as good.. It was interesting with all the characters working on separate cases and just checking in with each other. I don’t remember one like that before.
Great mystery. I loved this story. It took only two nights to read. It kept me on my toes and I didn’t want to stop reading it. I can’t wait for the next adventures of Bernie and Chee.

THE CAST OF CHARACTERS THAT KEEPS ON GIVING. Anne’s writing is wonderful. She keeps me on the edge of my set as I attempt to guess the bad one. Waiting for the next book of Chee, Bernie and Longhorn.

Worthwhile read.. The book was enjoyable and the local flavor evident. The mystery was revealed pretty early. I will certainly read more books from this author.
