But when his father sees her he wants her for himself! He wants the curvy woman and wants a baby with her and she sees him and agrees!

A nice brain candy novella but could had been better.. Review with spoilers so beware. Male main character John was quite sympathetic and believable… but could had been better. I doubt making this story fifty pages longer could have helped… maybe ten. This is rare for me to say because I’m usually of the opinion that more pages (and better written) would do a world of good, but not necessarily in this case. It would be like a Saturday Night Live skit gone on too long if that was done, I suppose. As for the female character Megan, she seems so static. Not saying she isn’t a strong character. She just doesn’t evolve as the same rate or strength as John did. I wish it could had been better. And there is Brian the Villain. More like whiny, sexist brat of a guy who we find out later is an alcoholic who is using his position to force Megan to date him. It’s during their first “date” at a fancy restaurant/club when Brian flees the premises, leaving Megan to deal with an expensive bill (and they’ve only ordered wine and appetizers so far!). Apparently, he’s spooked when his own father walks in for just an after-work drink. (Apparently he’s on “home arrest” for a DUI!) That’s where John decides to meet this woman his son was dating, only to find out that she’s been coerced to go out with him. And to think that Brian is actually working for his own father at a media company! Of course, John doesn’t want to frighten Megan into leaving him so he leaves out the little detail about his relationship with John or what company he owned. (Because he’s her über-boss!) Sprint ahead a few months (I hate these time jumps!), and we find Megan secretly pregnant with John’s child… or is it Brian’s? Brain-addled Brian illegally rifles through Megan’s desk and finds the just-used pregnancy test (eeoooh!), puts two and two and two together, and drags Megan to his father for the great “reveal”, throwing a terrible tantrum. Now for the deus ex machina… Brian passes out. The paramedics arrive and take him to the hospital The two confess their love to each other. The epilogue rolls and… WAIT!!!! Didn’t the paramedic mention jaundice? Hell, when an alcoholic finally develops jaundice, s/he is usually dead-man-walking! The liver is that compromised. I don’t buy the quick recovery without need of a liver transplant, and the little pipsqueak is traveling the world, trying to find himself, while John and Megan wait patiently for him to come around and become a better adult son and big brother to their little girl. Okay. This is the first time I really blew my “don’t spoil the story for someone else” rule. It just didn’t do it for me when I finally got to the end. Left me feeling blah. Meh… Could have used a few more read-throughs being read aloud. Too many grammar and punctuation errors. I would only recommend reading this story if it was offered as a freebie. I wouldn’t have spent what I did spend had I had a better idea of the page count. This author charges too much for what she produces. I didn’t get enough payback with warm fuzzies to had made it worth it. I think I’ll be reading something else.
